Sulari Gentill is a genius. The Mystery Writer is a literary thriller/suspense. I love the way Sulari brings writing full circle in her novels. The passion of the characters resonate with the authors passion.

I adored the character of Theo and her strong will. I enjoyed the banter between the siblings and I want to meet Macs family!

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC.

I'm an avid reader and reading is part of my routine. But, and this did not happen to me for years, I just could not put down "The mystery writer" by Sulari Gentill. There are many qualities only to be found in Agatha Christies' books in this gem. The cleverness of a feeling of "deja-vu" because the plot is linked to contemporary violences, the quality of building up simultaneously a crescendo of suspense and a cobweb getting narrower and narrower on the main characters. I don't know if Sulari Gentill will make any conference on how to build a plot, but I'll be very interested to listen to her on that matter. This book is presented as a one-off apparently, but I seriously hope for a follow-up. Again, it is against my habits to describe me as a fan, but, this time, I'm not ashamed to say I'm keen on following Sulari Gentill, and I will recommend her anytime I can. We need authors like Sulari Gentill, we need to understand and ask the proper questions about what is happening today, with no hate or anticipation. The mystery writer is an excellent way to sensibilize people to the importance of communication, fiction, and the elaboration of plots.

I felt that the writing was good enough but not captivating. I figured out who the bad guy must be a third of the way through the book. The plot seemed a bit far fetched.

This was an interesting and complex novel about Theo, who shows up suddenly on her brother’s doorstep to start a new adventure. Life gets messy very quickly. This mystery has a literary twist and keeps things moving!

I received an early copy from Netgalley, but all thoughts are my own!

Theo is so thankful that her brother Gus has put her up in America to finish her half completed novel. She has been reeling since the end of her career and is hoping this will be the next step to success. When she meets Dan, a semi-famous author in a coffee shop, she realizes her luck has turned and she happily accepts his assistance as a mentor.

Dan turns up dead not long after and Theo suspects there is more to the story. When her brother Gus is arrested, she knows she is working against a larger force than she thought. Is she brave enough to uncover what has happened?

A great story. Real surprises at the end! #PoisonedPenPress

This talented author has written a cannot put down story. The characters keep the reader guessing. What is real? I enjoy books by this author. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Thanks to the publisher and author. Trying to keep up with the different themes was somewhat difficult but I managed. Secrets and red herrings abound. Enjoy.

Having loved the Body in the Library I was excited to read The Mystery Writer. I loved the characters of Theo, Gus and Mac and I’m hoping this isn’t the last time Gentill includes them in a book, but rather the start of a series. The parts with Mac’s family are a hoot and I laughed out loud at the dinner scene.
I don’t think the trip Gus and Mac took to Australia was a necessary part of the book and felt superfluous. The plot was great but the publishing company and the part in Dallas felt too far fetched to be believable.
