I very much enjoyed this book. It made me smile, laugh, and cry. I loved the story of Addie and Logan meeting and keeping the initial secret of her spying in his tour group. All of the characters were fun and well written. This book is a love letter to Scotland!!!

I love books that are set in Scotland, that was the big reason I wanted to read this book, and the Scotland setting was very prevalent throughout - so I was very happy about that! The Scotland aspect was my favorite part of the book.
The romance between the MCs was slow burn, but it didn’t quite work for me. I felt the book was missing the pining between the characters before the romance finally set in. There wasn’t the amount of tension/chemistry I was hoping for in the first half, so then when things finally happened between the characters, I wasn’t screaming with excitement like I would want to be in a slow burn book.
However, I do have to say the book was well written. I understood the character’s motivations for why they did what they did, and I enjoyed how the story came together in the end. Def not bad for a debut and I’m happy I did read it!
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC!
while this is absolutely a cute, fun contemporary romance between two characters, it is ALSO a love letter to scotland, and alexandra’s ability to weave scottish lore, history, and quirks into the story while making it still feel organic is nothing short of magic.
this story focuses on addie and logan — addie, a practical, focused, weighed-down-with-baggage-and-vulnerability-issues professional in the overhauling-outdated-tourism-companies business, and logan, a deeply sentimental scottish man, trying desperately to keep his family-owned business afloat while also maintaining the integrity and authenticity of the tours he loves to give. addie and logan routinely butt heads in this workplace romance rife with slow burn, forced proximity, and a dash of rivals-to-lovers as they both try to prove to the other why their business plans are the best.
it’s a bit slow through the middle, but that’s mostly because of the extra details pertaining to scotland — it’s SO immersive that it truly felt like i was celebrating hogmanay with addie and logan, and trekking to see highland cows. (SOMEDAY, GOD, THE DREAM!)
ultimately this is a cute contemporary romance with a strong emotional thread that makes the characters easy to connect with, enough slow burn to make you YEARN, and about 1,001 reasons to book a trip to scotland immediately. men in kilts being reason #1, obviously.
First of all, I would like to thank NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book. It was a cozy and really nice romance novel. It didn't have much spice in it, so if you are a reader that loves spicy books maybe this isn't for you. I loved how beautiful was the setting described throughout the book. I lived in the UK for 3 years and sadly never had the time to visit Scotland. This book really made me want to prioritize going to Scotland in the next few years on my bucket list.
There was a lot I liked about this book, but unfortunately, there was also a lot that didn't work for me.
What worked:
- Edinburgh as a setting -- Kiley did her research and the setting felt lived in, with the correct history and flavor added to the story to make the setting real, even if the reader had never been to Edinburgh.
- Discussions of tourism in the present era of social media and quick photos versus in-depth personalization and history
- The side characters were, at times, more delightful than our MCs (see below), and they certainly had more common sense. Elyse was a DELIGHT and I felt that Logan was surrounded by people who had more common sense than he did.
- The strongest part of this book -- and one that I haven't seen advertised as much -- is the representation of the omnipresent grief Aimee feels at the loss of her mother, a free spirit, and her father's subsequent detachment in the wake of his own grief. Her journey to connect to why she loves travel and heading to her parents' honeymoon spots was beautifully told, and Logan's help on finding the locations was the best part of their relationship.
What didn't work:
- I didn't buy the romance which is essential...for a romance novel. There was instant attraction, then (childish on both of the MC's parts) office dislike and pranks, and then all of a sudden a truce and banging? And then they're in love?
- I don't love the trope of "business-focused American needs to slow down and fall in love with a man with an accent".
- I felt that the differences between Aimee and Logan seemed too wide to overcome, almost to the point of being stereotyped. He's a tour guide that doesn't believe in showing the most popular sites at all? She's a travel consultant (not a relatable job) who doesn't understand the need for personal connection or history in tours? Really? I felt both of them were so stubborn about their jobs, and not in the "passionate defense of what I love way". Also Aimee's company seems like it really sucked (I'm sure that's the point), but it made it difficult to see why she even worked for them in the first place. Honestly, I think the story would have been more compelling if Aimee was there on on a different type of work trip and stumbled into Logan and he helped her reconnect with her mother's memory and she helped him with his business.
- The end seemed rushed, plus the epilogue was a bit too corny, even for me.
Even with what I didn't like, I enjoyed the book as a fun, rompy quick read. Kiley has a good voice for romance and I will definitely check out other books she publishes. 2.5 stars rounded up.
Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC
I haven’t been this genuinely invested in romcom characters since the last Emily Henry. I even teared up a little by the end. These characters felt so real and their development was believable. I found myself rooting for both of them and shouting in my head "Just talk to each other!"
Side note: This is not absolutely foul like most of these cutesy illustrated covers. A true miracle.

I tried to get into this story but I couldn’t relate to the characters the more I kept reading. I feel like a lot of the main characters backstory was missing. I believe have more backstory of how each of the main character got to where they were when they first met would have helped me to get into the story mode.
This is not to say that others won’t enjoy this story or this style of writing. I had high hopes with the setting being in Scotland that I would be whisked away into the Scottish setting.
Thank you Harlequin Trade Publishing for the chance to read this book to submit my honest opinion.

Gosh dangit I really wanted to like this, but I didn't get on with the writing style. I felt like the story moves forward in fits and starts, and because it didn't flow I had a really hard time keeping my attention. I wasn't invested in the characters either, nor their pending romance. It just fell a bit flat for me.
THAT SAID. There are people out there who will LOVE this book. This is just about my preferences when I'm reading, and is not a reflection of how others may feel!
I loved the setting of Scotland, and the mystery of Addie's mom's life that was the underpinning of the storyline. Both main characters were wonderful.
This was a cute / light-hearted read! I didn't really find myself rooting for the characters or their relationship -- but loved the backdrop of the Scottish Highlands and cities like Edinburgh highlighted in the story. A perfect read for someone who wants to get lost exploring Scotland.
If you weren’t already swept away by the idea of traveling to Scotland, Kilt Trip will have you obsessed with its idyllic prose. Alexandra Kiley’s debut romcom will have you laughing at these enemies to lovers. The characters feel real and capture your attention with their witty banter. I found myself connecting with Addie’s grief and the tension between her and Logan. I loved every minute of Kilt Trip and look forward to reading more by Alexandra Kiley in the future.
Thanks to NetGalley and the Harper Collins for the ARC!
I wanted to love it but it fell a bit flat for me. I enjoyed it, but I wasn't giddy about it, and felt no particular connection to the characters. Addie comes off a bit spoiled and haughty, like she's too good to need other people and that got annoying fast. Logan was a sweetheart but a bit too into her too quickly, wanting her to move to his country after 2 weeks of knowing each other...a bit insta-love-y for my tastes. Still, an enjoyable romcom, fans of Outlander might enjoy it more than most, with the beautiful Edinburg setting and man in a kilt.
I was not prepared for the sucker punch to the heart that was this book.
“Sometimes we find a place we’ve never been before, but it feels like coming home.”
The book is called Kilt Trip by Alexandra Kiley.
Addie Macrae works for a travel consultancy. She flies to Scotland to help revamp a tour business called The Heart Of The Highlands. Before introducing herself to the tour company, she goes on one of their tours under the radar to observe. That’s where she meets Logan the tour guide…
After the tour… there’s a small spark between the two and they grab dinner and drinks at the pub.
The next day, when she gets to the tour companies office… she finds out the company is owned by Logan’s father… and Logan realizes that Addie lied about who she is to observe the tour.
And so ensues a hilarious book filled with banter, Kilts, and a whole lot of heart.
The stakes in this book are fairly low. This is the perfect book for someone who is riddled with anxiety and sometimes needs the stakes to be a little easier. Settle that anxiety a bit and read something that will not only comfort you, but heal you in the process.
There’s a nice build up of tension between these two that’s delicious and only slightly agonizing.
Most books have romance and spice but they’re kind of separate. Here… they come together. And it’s… unbelievable.
This book was grief, longing, and loneliness. And then… it eventually wraps you in a warm comforting blanket and you feel a hint of magic in the air in the highlands.
This book is peace. It’s calm. It gives you the opportunity for space to figure life out. It steadies you. Grounds you. It gives you the time to process pain. And then it hugs you and makes you feel whole again.
“Life is a collection of small moments. Never stop searching for the ones that take your breath away.”
As much as this is a love story. It also feels like a love letter to Scotland. It’s steeped in history and exploration, and it makes your heart ache with longing to step into the highlands… feel the grass in the breeze, and pet a hairy cow 😂
I love smut just as much as the next girl. But there’s something special about tasteful spice. It’s not the main story. It’s not even half of it. It just connects the tender love to a point that makes your heart burst. The spice was so connective and so intimate I had to set the book down to take some deep breaths. It was overwhelmingly romantic.
This book is slightly enemies to lovers, he falls first, Scotland, kilts, romance, yearning, passion, craving, solid, and safe.
“For a chance to be loved fully it’s worth it to risk your heart.”
Something about this just didn’t work for me. Maybe all the lying to each other or Addie’s terrible attitude with people. The spicy scenes were ok but the side characters didn’t work well at all. Addie’s “friends” seemed terrible to her and her father was just brought up a few times in passing with a weird ending
"Kilt Trip" is the Alexandra Kiley's debut novel, which has a cute storyline and adorable cover which caught my attention. In "Kilt Trip", Addie is a world class traveler whose job is to evaluate various travel destinations and their local offerings. Her most recent assignment takes her to the Scottish Highlands to determine whether a family-run tour agency is as profitable as it could be. And of course, there's a sexy Scottish man in a kilt (Logan) who runs these local tours. At first, Logan is quite unhappy about Addie's involvement in his company, but he can't deny his attraction to her. And the more time they spend together, the more the sparks fly!
I enjoyed hearing all the specifics about the Scottish Highlands and it felt like I was there in person. I also liked Addie's side quest to discover more about her late mother who had visited Scotland years before. I thought this was a cute book, but could use a little editing. Overall, it was a good first book! Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
This book was so magical! The scenery and history transported me straight to Scotland and I fell in love. I typically don’t like slow burn romances, but this story was entertaining enough that I didn’t feel like I needed the romance for it to be worth reading (though Addie and Logan are literally everything!). The characters are all perfect and the travel consultant and tour guide dynamic is so fun. I loved this!
On the surface, this is a fun, silly romp of a book, but there is a deeper thread, one of longing for days gone by, and the loss of beloved family.
Addie's mission is to go to Scotland, and consult with a tourism company that has seen better days. The owner's son, Logan, is firmly opposed to any changes, and sparks fly whenever the two of them interact. The trouble with sparks is that sometimes they ignite, even when you don't want them to, and of course, fire!!
There's a soft side to Logan as well, and Addie manages to finally reveal it. Their relationship was fun to experience. And of course let's not forget the wonderful scenery of Scotland. I've been there myself, and this book made me long to return.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book, but my opinions are my own.
From the minute I saw the name and the cover I knew I wanted to read this book. Kilt Trip? Sign me up.
Addie a consultant for travel tours? Something I didn’t know existed but I’m dying from envy of her dream job. Her next project is making a tour company in Scotland profitable. Which seems a little easier when she meets the tall, kilt wearing Scotsman running the tour.
Logan, the aforementioned Scotsmen is instantly drawn to Addie. Because duh, this is a romance novel and we all dream we would meet a hunky tour guide who instantly falls in love with us. He’s none to pleased by her tourist deception and not really interested in the ideas she has to make the tours turn a profit. He hopes that by taking her on a tour to connect with her past he can make her fall in love with Scotland.
But can our jet setting, world traveling Addie fall in love with not just Scotland, but Logan also?
Thank you HTP, NetGalley and Canary Press for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you so much to Alexandra Kiley and Harlequin Trade Publishing, Canary Street Press for the eARC to review. This book was a great quick and easy read for me. I love any books that deal with Scotland and Ireland. I loved reading about Addie and Logan's story. I cannot wait to read more by Alexandra,
I am OBSESSED. Addie is independent, loves to travel, and doesn't need anyone else in her life. Logan loves to show people Scotland and has a soft side for a certain woman (Addie hehe) who is trying to help improve the family company. I am going to recommend this book to everyone!
