I loved this one! It has been a while since I have enjoyed a traditionally published romance novel. This one was amazing. The characters are rivals to lovers in a workplace. The romance is a slow burn with the funniest banter. It is on my bucket list to travel to Scotland and I loved every minute of this one!
OH. MY. GOSH. This book was an absolute delight from start to finish. The description of Scotland (landscapes, traditions, language) was so fun to read, particularly because my husband's father is from Scotland. As for Logan and Addie... their banter, attraction, enemies to lovers story was a true slow burn that couldn't get enough of.
Kilt Trip is such a cute rom-com! It's filled with lush descriptions of the Scottish highlands that are so good, you really feel the love pouring out of the characters for the people and culture of the country. The relationship is sweet and I thought both main characters had good emotional arcs to overcome, though it did take me a little while to get pulled into the story. Overall, I enjoyed it!
This was a fantastic romance. I liked the plot and the characters were a lot of fun. Very much recommend this book.
OMG! This is a MUST-must read!
I loved everything about this books. It made me Scotland obessed. I was yelling at the heroine and falling in love with the hero.
He is the biggest cinnamon roll hero who as fallen... hard.
Do yourself a favorite and read this book! You won't be disappoint.
When you request a book on @netgalley, one of the questions they ask you is what interested you in the book...and, of course, the answer to this one was "title". (And, okay, maybe because it's an enemies-to-lovers romance set in Scotland.)
The book starts off in Edinburgh (one of my favorite cities in Europe--at least when it's sunny) and is about a tour company, so readers do get to see more of Scotland than just the capital city. While learning some fun cultural and historical facts along the way (thanks to one character who wants to focus on the touristy landmarks and one character who wants to focus on the meaningful and special highlights), we also travel to the Highlands, celebrate Hogmanay, meet some hairy coos, and, of course, see a few men in kilts.
There's more than just Scotland to the story, though...

Review: Addie Macrae is a travel consultant who travels the world advising tour companies on how to improve their business practices (hello, dream job!). When she heads to Scotland to help a family-run travel company, she meets her match in Logan, a kilt-wearing hard-headed Scot who loves his family and his country. The two disagree on how to best move the company forward–which is not good for Addie and her job. There are some really great moments in the book and it's a fun plotline, but there was also just something missing for me–I feel like it was close to being a great book, but could have benefited from a few more rewrites. Sometimes the story seemed to skip a bit and sometimes the chemistry between Addie and Logan was lacking, but there were great descriptions of Scotland and there certainly was some heat between the two. Travel- and romance-lovers will enjoy the book.
*I was given a version of this book for free in exchange for an honest book review--thank you to @netgalley and @harlequinbooks. The book will be released on 5 March 2024.
Thank you NetGalley and canary books for providing the eARC for my unbiased review.
I was drawn to this because of the puny title and description of a girl who travels the world but I’m sorry romance lovers, this book just was not it. I should preface by saying I’m not a big romance reader. I generally find them to be wildly unrealistic and corny. Some have changed my mind about the genre recently but this one does not fall in that category. From the start, I felt that the characters lacked any real emotional maturity. Addie’s nature of running from her problems and refusal to touch on anything emotional irked me.
Spoiler:
The ending in particular just felt so fake and unrealistic. What grown adult falls so deeply in love in a month that they would consider giving up their life (or asking someone else to). I hate these all or nothing scenarios- either you love me and stay here as I want or you go and I’ll never see you again. Sorry friends.. this just lacked for me overall.
3.5 stars
Loved the book being set in Scotland!!!!
I mostly loved our characters but there's a lot of grief that Addie is dealing with and the book was heavier than anticipated b/c of it. I was frustrated with both Addie and Logan at various points. Third act breakups are pretty standard in romance novels but for some reason theirs really aggravated me.
The best part was honestly feeling like I was on a tour of Scotland.
I would definitely read another book by this author.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Harlequin Trade Publishing/Canary Street Press through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Harlequin Trade Publishing/Canary Street Press.
I read this ARC more than once—I finished the first read-through and wasn't ready to leave the characters behind so I started over again immediately after finishing. This book. THIS BOOK. It is perfection.
Who doesn't love a kilt-clad tour guide? I knew I'd get a great romance, but the atmosphere was an unexpected perk: I was IN Scotland. I could see, hear, smell, feel everything. I loved exploring Scotland and getting to know the side characters and rooting for Addie, and Logan—and Addie AND Logan, together. This book balanced the humor with the feels *perfectly.* Came for the enemies-to-lovers, stayed—and returned for a second read—for the heart.
Addie is a globe trotter, she flies around the world helping tour businesses to thrive and she loves it, nothing could be better. Until she goes to Scotland, a land rich with history, and attractive, albeit stubborn men (or rather a specific man named Logan) in kilts. Her world is turned upside down in Edinburgh, but is she brave enough to experience her own history, and make meaningful relationships, or will she continue on her path, which has become a bit lonely?
This was a lovely romance novel! The setting was perfect. There were beautiful descriptions of Scotland, little bits of history peppered in and now I desperately want to return to Scotland. I also enjoyed how fully formed the characters were, they all have proper back stories, even the minor ones, and you feel like you're being brought into the Sutherland family along with Addie. I think the resolution was great, I am always relieved when the protagonist is able to grow and see their own flaws. And I always enjoy having two POVs in a book, both Addie and Logan were a joy to read about, even if Addie maybe annoyed me a bit (only that I wanted to shake some sense into her). My only criticism is that is did have a bit of that long boggy middle that can happen in novels. I got slightly impatient for the plot to move forward and couldn't believe I was only halfway through. But it only takes away slightly from the book, overall it was such a joy and I would absolutely recommend.
Honestly I had high hopes for this title and while I wouldn’t say it’s bad, it’s not quite one I feel like I will add to my romcom read rotation.
I have been to some of the locations mentioned in the book and I know it’s just fiction but some of the descriptions and things were not super accurate and I had a hard time separating that from real life.
I also felt like there was quite a lot of telling instead of showing - which had its place but it felt very constant to the point of being a distraction.
What a great and beautiful story about opening yourself up to an unsuspecting love in a city/ country that you love deep into your bones. This story was a great modern day romance read! I loved the banter between the MMC and MFC and with the dual POVs you really get to see into there minds and know there true feelings for the country of Scotland, the people around them, and of course each other. It was a great fast read and had some truly touching moments as the characters are falling in love, the Main character Addie also learns to love herself and let go of her grief. While I thought that the beginning of the book dragged slightly before it picked up, I was pleased the further into it we went. Very powerful emotions were placed into this book and you can feel it on the page.

Thank you to NetGalley and the (publisher) for the ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own and i am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a sweet, slow burn romance that starts off as a bit of rivals to lovers vibes but morphs into something much deeper as Addie deals with her grief over the death of her mother & Logan works through repairing some of his family relationships.
Scotland is like a third character in this story, with history, traditions, food, and locations lovingly described throughout. To me, the setting and its lush descriptions were the best part of the book.
Negatives: this could have been a bit shorter. The parts where Logan is obstructing Addie’s progress just go on and on beyond what really makes sense for the story, and her relationship with her boss/the tour company is very confusing. They are consultants; why is there so much conflict with their clients?? Surely the clients have the final say? That aspect was very odd.
Spice: open door and multiple scenes but not a particularly spice heavy book. I thought it struck a good balance of mostly plot & building tension.
I would definitely read something written by this author in the future.
Scotland featured as the third main character in this book and I absolutely loved that. Addie is a consultant coming in to help Logan's struggling company, but he's finding it to hard to change. He's going to prove to Addie that the heart of their business can't be replicated with cold corporate tricks. The story was fun and funny, and you could feel the heat between Addie and Logan. Their love story was such a fun love story to Scotland too.
I really loved this book. I found Addie and Logan to both be really likable characters, and I thoroughly enjoyed all of the side characters as well. I really got the feeling that I was in Scotland with them experiencing everything for the first time like Addie because of the beautiful description of the landscapes and castles. This book somehow both soothed my wanderlust while also making me itch to buy a flight to Edinburgh. Addie and Logan’s banter was incredible and I loved their love and what they were able to do for each other. I really liked the way this book dealt with grief and the feeling of abandonment, but still felt lighthearted and hopeful. I’m left feeling so satisfied by the ending, but a little sad that it’s over; a similar feeling to returning home after a perfect trip.
This is a cute story set in Scotland and travel consultant Addie helps a travel agency become more profitable. Let the games begin between her and Logan! I found this to be really “cute” and I loved the setting being in Scotland and felt like I was on tour with her several times. I have never been to Scotland but it is a place I would love to visit one day. If it wasn’t so far from the USA. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this early release. To be published March 2024.
Thank you to Netgalley & Harlequin Trade Publishing, Canary Street Press for an ARC of this book!
Ok. BRB booking a trip to Scotland ASAP to experience the land and find myself a Logan. I really enjoyed this book! I may have to listen to an audiobook of this once it comes out just to hear the Scottish accents.
I enjoyed the characters and the descriptions of the different places in Scotland and I loved how it switched viewpoints between Addie and Logan throughout the book. I was able to connect with some of the grief that Addie had and many quotes and feelings she had really struck a chord and I think anyone who has lost a mom can relate to. and the character of Logan...SWOON.
If you love stories with someone falling for someone with an accent, then you will enjoy this book and you should definitely check it out when it is publishd on March 5, 2024!
Kilt Trip by Alexandra Kiley: What starts as a fun travel-mishap rom-com slowly evolves into a deeply heartfelt story of the search for family and connection in this beautiful story that is, at its core, a love letter to Scotland.
Addie Macrae has the perfect job - as a travel consultant, she gets to see the world, have big adventures, and help businesses...but she never has to unpack the emotional baggage that keeps her from putting down roots. Assigned to help a family-owned tour company in Edinburgh, she knows this job will be different. Armed with a handful of photos of her late mother from her parent’s honeymoon decades ago, she craves connecting with a place her mother loved. Her clients, the Sutherland family, are at a business crossroads as the patriarch is retiring, and his son Logan Sutherland is poised to take the reigns in the future. At odds from the start, Addie’s goal of increasing the bottom line contradicts Logan’s desire to share the hidden gems of Scotland. From office hijinks to conference room battles, their conflict is preventing progress. Then Addie relents and agrees to go on one of Logan’s tours. As he shares his love of Scotland, Addie can’t help but fall in love with the country and the man. But can globetrotting Boston-based Addie and tied-to-Scotland Logan be anything more than temporary?
I loved how this book evolved from something light to a profound book about connection, home, and family. Addie and Logan are both multifaceted characters surrounded by secondary characters you care for and want to learn more about (I’m hoping this is the first in a series). What shines brightest is the writing in the second half of the book. As Addie and Logan travel Scotland, Kiley beautifully describes the scenery and growing connection between the characters in a way that had me highlighting whole paragraphs.
Thanks to @netgalley @htpbooks and @akileybooks for the opportunity to read this sweet, steamy, rivals-to-lovers, slow burn romance.
*Addie's job - didn't come across realistically,
*the outright stubborn lack of communication from Addie,
*the title and cover made me think I was getting into a light romance but abiding grief is a large part of Addie's character (if parental loss and the grief that follows that is a sensitivity, approach this one cautiously),
*cliche laden
*the last 100 or so pages
I did enjoy reading about Logan's family, and the descriptions of Scotland. But I felt like this could have been shorter and better. I'll definitely try future titles by the author, but overall, I wanted to like this one more than I did.
Thank you to Canary Street Press and NetGalley for the DRC
I received a copy of this for my honest review.
I absolutely loved this story! Our FMC works as a consultant for yours, and gets sent to Scotland, the one country she has avoided since the death of her mother 13 years ago. When she arrives she sneaks onto a tour to get a feeling of how they operate, in comes our MMC, handsome, in a kilt and the Scottish brogue that melts everything. They have an instant connection, but when she goes into the office the next day to get down to business she finds he isn't just a guide, but the son of the owner and who she needs to convince to change his tours in order to be profitable. He's stubborn about what he wants, and she won't open up a out her past, but they make a deal to try each others tour to see if they can come to a compromise. Will they be able to bridge their gap or will they end up with a wedge the size of Loch Ness in between them.
