This tense psychological thriller follows Roise and Chad, a couple who inherit an apartment worth millions in an old building with a haunting past.

I really enjoyed this one by Lisa Unger! The story kept building layer by layer and I had to know how all the pieces connected. The setting of the beautiful and antiquated building was the perfect backdrop for this mystery to unfold. The ending didn’t hold any major surprises and the main character was unbelievably naive but overall it was an enjoyable read!

This gave me chills. It reminded me of an adult version of Goosebumps books, and I was a huge Goosebumps fan when I was a child. I loved the paranormal twist to this mystery/horror.
A couple finds out that their late uncle left them an apartment that has all of the old-fashioned charm to it. Soon, things begin to look questionable and the plot thickens.
I feel like this would make an excellent movie.

This was a well-written book by an author with many great releases. The plot was dirven and suspenseful. There was a dark tone that was fitting with the story. The characters were relatable and dynamic.

I love books with a home that has a creepy past and The New Couple in 5B is certainly one of the better ones. I'm not sure what newness it adds to the conversation, but I was very okay with that as I could not put this down.

This was such a bingeable and fun read! I kept thinking I had things figured out, and then something else would happen and my theory wouldn’t make sense. Honestly, the best sort of book. I loved how it had a bit of paranormal elements in this as well, so you not only have a mystery/thriller but you also get the creepy factor too. this book was DARK and I’m here for it!

As many of you already know, Lisa is one of my must read authors and I really enjoy her books. Her newest novel, The New Couple in 5B is no exception to this. I loved the gothic vibes in this story and the dual timelines. The setting of a creepy old NYC building, The Windermere, was perfect. I can’t only imagine that a city with that many old buildings definitely have a few with resident ghosts! The writing was atmospheric and I found the main character, Rosie, to be an unreliable narrator (which I loved). I would definitely recommend this book to readers who love a good gothic thriller.

The New Couple in 5B is Lisa Unger’s next best thriller. Ms. Unger has hit this one out of the park so I recommend you buckle up and hold on tight, you are in for the ride of your life. I love Lisa Unger’s books, always a page turning thriller I can count on. This one though has a twist, she has added a spooky supernatural element to this story. It will grab you from the first page and you will not be able to put it down until the very last one. It is told in dual timelines with characters that seem real and some that are questionable. Unger will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you love a spine tingling thriller, then this one is for you!

This was a perfectly spooky story about a young couple inheriting a fancy apartment in NYC that seems to be a little too good to be true.

Rosie, a true crime author, and her husband Chad, an actor, have been struggling financially and also desperately trying to have a baby. When Chad inherits his uncle's apartment in NYC, which has a dark and sinister past, they're thrilled. Rosie is ecstatic to be able to write about the deaths and suicides that occurred there and be able to internally investigate. Chad is overjoyed simply because it's a 5 million dollar apartment—who wouldn’t want to inherit that? However, very soon after doing so, the circumstances surrounding this good fortune start to look suspicious.

This story was creepy, and I loved the narration! Between a sketchy doorman, cameras and intercoms everywhere, odd neighbors, a perspective from one of the deceased tenants from decades ago, and the paranormal elements, this had me hooked. I did not see the ending coming and found it to be incredibly twisty, although it did drag at times. I also didn’t love the ending, but this was still very good. Overall, I had a good time reading this one.

This thriller surprised me, there were some unexpected twists, it was a little creepy but I was hanging on to the story.  Rosie and Chad inherit an apartment in a lush Manhattan neighbourhood, strange things begin to happen and the neighbors start dying off.  I found Chad to be the creepiest character, his vibe had a whole negative energy right from the beginning.  Rosie was the typical, semi unreliable female lead, it worked well with some of the paranormal themes.  

The one thing I was confused about was Rosie's friend Max, this felt like a whole unfinished plot line, him being fired the way he was.  Plus the lawyer friend telling him too bad, move on, that seemed unprofessional and like there was something else to uncover there.

Overall I as thrilled and enjoyed the ride

This was a quick, fun read for anyone who can didn’t have nightmares after viewing Rosemary’s Baby. The story follows a writer, with a family history involving the occult, plunging into the mysteries surrounding her new building. This book features flashbacks from a character who previously lived in the Windemere, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Having read many thrillers, I can say that Unger is successful in creating truly frightening moments. At times a little hokey, the plot point of a struggling writer having difficulties being heard and understood can feel contrived. However, the story is still a fast-paced story that could get someone out of a reading rut. Thank you to Lisa Unger, NetGalley, and Park Row for the ARC.

Easy answer? A LOT.

This was a fun read although it was slightly slow and I had to finish it in multiple sittings. The book is a winding adventure with twists one way only to twist the complete opposite direction shortly later and leave you wondering where it'll take you next. Decent ending that doesn't disappoint and a good read if you can get past the slowness.

Lisa NEVER misses. I can’t wait for others to devour this like I did. I was guessing the whole time and even when I thought I had it figured out..I didn’t. This will be a favorite for the year for sure

It took me a while to get into it but eventually got going. A thriller/supernatural book usually get my heart going and this one did. Would recommend.

I loved the dual timelines and supernatural events. This is definitely a slow-burn read; it took awhile to captivate me, but once it did, I was hooked. Inheriting an apartment worth millions would be every couple's dream, especially in NYC. Unfortunately for this couple, it becomes their worst nightmare. I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a haunted house, creepy, unsettling thriller book.

Okay I haven’t read a thriller THIS good in SO long! I don’t handle spooky very well but this book was a bit creepy- in a good way.

Fans of Freida McFadden, Lisa Jewel, and Jeneva Rose will love this novel.

A thriller with (sometimes predictable) twists and turns, I think this book will be in quite a few reading groups' lists this spring.
The characters were solid, the setting claustrophobic and unsettling, and the plot/pacing was good.
Overall, a quick read that will satisfy most of Unger's current fans and potentially attract new readers who enjoy suspense.

This book comes out in a couple days! It was my first introduction into Lisa Unger and I had a great time. It’s a twisty (slightly predictable) thriller and the MC is slow to catch on but that adds to the suspense. I enjoy a good rich people behaving badly plot line and this didn’t disappoint. Thank you NetGalley for a preview for this book that I highly recommend picking up on its pub day!

Wow The New Couple in 5B is an awesome book!!!!!!!!!! I loved this book so much I didn't want it to end. It is a must read of 2024!!!!!!!!! One of Lisa Unger's best in my opinion.

The New Couple in 5B is Lisa Unger's latest release. In this book a young couple (Rosie and Chad) inherit an apartment after the death of Chad's uncle whom the couple helped take care of during the illness at the end of his life. Once the couple moves in, Rosie starts to take a deeper look at the apartment building as research for her upcoming book. The more she digs, the more she finds that things are not what they seem in the building and perhaps neither are some of the people in her life.

I have read several of Lisa Unger's books and similar to the others, this has a mystery/thriller vibe for sure. I felt like the resolution at the end was a little rushed and I would have like more details as well as depth with some of the characters. Nevertheless it was a fast read and while I guessed some of the end, there were other twists throughout that I did not.

This new atmospheric thriller from Lisa Unger packs a real punch, and I absolutely could not put it down!

Writer Rosie Lowan and her husband Chad are shocked when his late uncle leaves them his multimillion dollar apartment at the historic (and possibly haunted) Windermere in NYC. Rosie is writing a book about the strange deaths and mysterious occurrences in the building over the years, and her suspicions about the building and its residents only grow when a neighbor winds up dead.

The luxury apartment building makes for such an eerie, incredibly atmospheric setting for the story. I could picture it all in my head as I read, and I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to live in a place with such a storied past. There is one past POV included, where we are given the story of the tenants who lived in Rosie and Chad’s apartment years ago, and that only added to the mystique of the building.

I found this book to be binge worthy, perfectly paced, and full of intrigue. The supernatural elements and spooky vibes were fun additions to this thriller, and I thought the ending wrapped things up very neatly. This is definitely a thriller I’ll be recommending!
