This was my first Lisa Unger novel, and since then I have worked my way through her backlist of books. I really enjoyed the paranormal side to the story, and can't wait to recommend it to others.
An enjoyable read that I would recommend. I did enjoy this one but it was a bit slower paced for me.
What happens when a couple inherits an apartment with a spine-tingling past? There is more to the apartment than meets the eye...
The New Couple in 5B is an unputdownable thriller that will have you turning pages until the very end. In the book there is so many twist and turns that will keep you guessing. This author wrote this so well and is an amazing story teller. The book had interesting characters that were suspicious from the beginning which I liked a lot. I loved that the book had to do with a house or apartment building and how errie that atmosphere was with that. Overall this was a fun spooky thrillling read that I loved a lot and would recommend to any reader but especially to readers who love a good thriller. Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for this amazing read in exchange of my honest review of The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger.
Give me all the Lisa Unger books! I always love her writing style and dive head first into the story. Loved this one too!
This one was an “I can’t put it down” kind of read. Definitely shades of Rosemary’s Baby. I love Lisa Unger”s books and this is one of my favorites. At times it was difficult to keep up with the list of character, but a fun read.

Happy Wednesday! So far it’s been a good reading month and I’ve read a lot of four & five star reads! One of these great reads was 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐍𝐞𝐰 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝟓𝐁 by @launger! I’ve always enjoyed books by this author and as usual this one did not disappoint!
I really really loved the setting of this one- an old, gothic, apartment building, set in NYC. The vibes were dark and the author did a great job meticulously describing the building and all the history it entailed. I also loved the paranmoral aspect, @launger executed this so well as it was just the right amount of creepiness!
The plot flip flopped between past and present keeping the story at a fast pace. I was literally at the edge of my seat the whole time, and the tension continued to grow with each chapter. The past timeline was my favorite chapters to read, they were so twisty, and mind bending.
100% recommend this thriller! Thank you to @parkrowbooks and @netgalley for the early copy!
𝐒𝐘𝐍𝐎𝐏𝐒𝐈𝐒: “ Rosie and Chad Lowan are barely making ends meet in New York City when they receive life-changing news: Chad’s late uncle has left them his luxury apartment at the historic Windermere in glamorous Murray Hill. With its prewar elegance and impeccably uniformed doorman, the building is the epitome of old New York charm. One would almost never suspect the dark history lurking behind its perfectly maintained facade.
At first, the building and its eclectic tenants couldn’t feel more welcoming. But as the Lowans settle into their new home, Rosie starts to suspect that there’s more to the Windermere than meets the eye. Why is the doorman ever-present? Why are there cameras everywhere? And why have so many gruesome crimes occurred there throughout the years? When one of the neighbors turns up dead, Rosie must get to the truth about the Windermere before she, too, falls under its dangerous spell.“

Unfortunately, I didn’t enjoy this book. It was a very slow read for me! I think I’m not a psychological thriller reader at heart!
I just finished reading "The New Couple in 5B" by Lisa Unger. Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for the Advanced Copy in return for an honest review.
This story is about a yound couple who inherit an apartment in New York, in a beautiful part of town that is clearly out of their economic capability. When they move in, they discover that the apartment building has a rich history that is shrouded in mystery. There is a feeling of supernatural and scary vibes. Rose and Chad are awestruck in their new plae, but soon weird things start to happen thatn noone seems to be able to explain. Then someone is killed and the race to the truth leavers everyone shocked and surprised.
I felt uneasy while reading this book. I enjoyed it but it was a little too creepy for me. The characters were interesting and the back story of former residents was captivating. I am not a fan of horror or the supernatural, but if you are then this is defiinately the book for you
Happy Reading.
If you love a good thriller this one is for you! I have recommended it to many in our book club ! Unger never fails fo.draw you in as a reader.
This was an interesting psychological thriller. I did think there would be a bit more paranormal in the day to day of Rosie's life. It was hard to connect or relate to Rosie because she felt rather naive to me even though she was trying to figure out what was going on in her new apartment. Overall, it was a fun, engaging read.
I got through this book really quickly, but the resolution of the plot fell flat for me. I had a hard time suspending disbelief for some of the plot resolutions, but overall it was a very quick and entertaining read
This was a creepy, crawly, check the lock on your door kind of book. So many twists and all along a fun ride about a newly married couple who comes into some good luck— or have they? Exactly the kind of book I love from Ms. Unger. Thank you NetGalley for providing me with an ARC.
The New Couple in 5B by Lisa Unger was an interesting read. I loved the main character but some of the other characters were not my cup of tea so I am giving four stars.
Readers of Lock Every Door and The Paris Apartment will draw some similarities to this read. While the settings seem very similar, the addition of paranormal and mystic are a great addition. This book has reader questioning up until the very end!
I read this book in one day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked the ghosty vibes but also the realistic stuff too.
It took longer to read than what I like to take. Bit slow moving.
Chad is a struggling actor and his wife Rosie is a true crime author. After taking care of his dying uncle, he leaves the newlyweds his multimillion dollar apartment, 5B, in a haunted building complex in NYC.
Roxie begins to investigate the history of the Windermere. She discovers there has been murders, suicides, accidents leading to deaths AND the front door man seems to work 24/7.
She’s struggling to connect all the pieces together. She becomes concerned for her safety with all the odd coincidences occurring within the building. In the mean while her husband is always on location and can not be reached, which adds more frustration and questions to her unsolved mysteries she is discovering with her research.
Told in two timelines. Rosie present day and Willa in the 1960’s. Willa, a dancer, shared the same apartment 5B with her husband. Willa was not a faithful wife and often felt her husband was holding her back.
Thank you NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing/Park Row for the ARC in exchange for my review. This book was published 3/24.
Another captivating thriller from Lisa Unger! "Couple in 5B" kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish. The plot twists were unexpected and gripping, and the characters were richly developed. Unger's writing is, as always, top-notch and immersive. Highly recommend this book to all thriller fans!
Second book by Lisa Unger that I have read. This was a great thriller- kept me guessing until the end! 4/5 stars!
If you just beginning to read thrillers, this would be a great one to delve into or start with a book club - plenty of discussion points here! Rosie and Chad end up inheriting a luxurious apartment at the Windermere but at what price? Rosie begins to question the workings at Windermere and two plots unfold at once. We follow Rosie as she unravels the secrets of the place and maybe just what she thought about her life wasn't all that it's made out to be.
For those trying out thrillers, this may be a great start. For seasoned thriller readers, this might have too many plot holes or you may figure it out before the shoe drops. Either way, I found this quite entertaining!
Book Review
The New Couple In 5B
By Lisa Unger
Rosie and Chad Lowan are struggling to make ends meet when Chad’s ailing uncle passes away and leaves his much desired apartment to them. Chad is an aspiring actor and Rosie had a hit book but has struggled to write anything since. After the uncle’s passing there are many questions by others as to why the apartment didn’t go to his daughter. The book plays homage to many other dark and spooky classic stories about homes or neighbors that feel just a bit off. In this dual timeline we also meet lonely housewife and aspiring dancer Willow Winter in the past. Her story will intertwine with others in the building who like Chad and Rosie learn of odd occurrences and suspicious deaths in the building. I liked this book. It has somewhat of a slow start but by the middle really started to pick up. Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the opportunity to read and review this title.
