I usually like an unreliable narrator but I thought Rosie wasn’t your typical one. I trusted her the entire time. The vibes were off with everyone else. She didn’t tie up a lot of the loose ends and left me with questions. I did like the side story in the past but I guessed the twist so it kinda just fell flat for me.

Lisa Unger is one of my absolute favorite authors and I will read anything she writes. I was so excited to get a copy of The New Couple in 5B. (Thank you, HTP Books !)

I stayed up super late reading this one because I could not put it down. And then I regretted that because there were a couple of scenes that really creeped me out. 😂

This one definitely has a Gothic, creepy, suspenseful vibe. It has the typical thriller stuff too, like murder and mystery. As a lover of all things book related, I loved the book within a book aspect. The dual timeline works really well here as well.

I absolutely loved this book. Definitely add it to your TBR. It’s available March 5th!!

The New Couple in 5B is another great story by Lisa Unger. I was drawn in right away and captivated by this old apartment building with it's grisly past. With it's disturbing history and colorful neighbors, this book will keep you guessing until the end.
Rosie and Chad Lowan's life is changed forever when Chad's Uncle leaves them is luxury apartment at the Windermere in glamourous Murray Hill. But behind this beautiful building, and uniformed doorman is a dark history that will have you wondering what is really going on at the Windermere. With the perfect neighbors, and helpful doorman, it seems like a dream come true. But Rosie becomes unsettled by the attendant who is always listening, and the camera's watching their every move, when their neighbor turns up dead Rosie is determined to find out the truth.
I enjoyed the creepy backdrop of the Windermere, it had you questioning everything about it as well as the interesting neighbors. It kept my attention to the very end.

WoW! This book was a ride. I enjoyed this fast paced, what is going to happen next story. New couple inherits this condo from a late uncle. It’s been known for some bad luck. It was creepy, you didn’t know who to trust and I was here for it.

This was my first book by this author and it won’t be my last. I didn’t see the twists and I was definitely satisfied with the ending

Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys?

A couple take care of an elderly man, uncle of hubby, in his last days. He gifts them his multi million dollar apartment in NY. Sound too good to be true? Well, it could be that the apartment building is haunted. So many suicides and tragedies in one place!

Wifey is a writer and decides to write about the history of the building and so she knows about the rumor of the hauntings, though she doesn't believe until she actually sees one up close and personal.

Why are people dying right when she is supposed to be talking to them about what they know? The police think it is suspicious and have questions for her. Hubby is an actor. Is he acting when he denies who he knows or who he spoke with?

The next door neighbors have been there since the beginning, along with the elevator attendant, but they don't tend to answer questions adequately. Who do you trust?

Thank you NetGalley for an advance reader copy. Honest opinions expressed here are my own and are freely given.

Like author Lisa Unger, I have a deep love for New York City and was excited to read a thriller set there. The building featured in The New Couple in 5B and its cast of characters reminded me of Only Murders in the Building - with many more supernatural, chilling elements.

Rosie and Chad Lowan are living a life we’re familiar with in NYC; She’s a writer and he’s and actor, recently married and doing their best to make ends meet. Their luck (and life) takes a significant turn when they inherit a luxurious apartment in a building with a chilling history. And while this is seemingly a blessing for the couple, their world begins to quickly unravel after they move in.

I liked reading the story from Rosie’s perspective and the bits of history from previous tenants. There were a few plot points and characters that didn’t fully come together for me, and after being compelled for so much of the book, the ending kind of fell flat. 3.5 rounded up to 4.

A few content warnings folks should be aware of include: miscarriage, loss of a child, suicide

Thanks to NetGalley and Harlequin for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

What a convoluted plan to snatch an apartment! Yet, I could see something like this happening with the value placed on housing in certain neighborhoods. There are certainly plot holes and I wanted more backstory for Rosie and Sarah, but it was an interesting read. I would recommend thisfor fans of Riley Sager and Lucy Foley.

Thriller in a creepy building and neighbors, and the main character is a writer, which was fun, and Lisa Unger is a great thriller writer.

What in the world is going on at the charming and elegant Windemere Hotel? People keep dying.

The author did an expert job at keeping me, the reader, guessing. It’s the story of Rosie, an introvert, married to Chad, an extrovert, and their recent inheritance of an apartment in the Windemere. The mystery continues page after page all the way to a terrific ending.

Thank you to NetGalley and Ms. Unger for the opportunity to read and review The New Couple in 5B. I loved it.

”It's the building, something whispers. The pain, sorrow, fear, murder, death trapped within its walls is like a poison, like arsenic in Victorian wallpaper, making everyone sick.”

Rosie and Chad Lowan, a couple living in New York struggling to succeed. Rosie is a writer and Chad an up in coming actor. But what happens when they receive a call that will forever change their lives? They’ll soon learn a dark history about Windermere and the death that surrounds them? Will the story of Windermere be Rosie’s next best seller or will death follow her too.??

”They're watching. Be careful. You're—in danger.”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

My heart is still racing from that heart-clenching ending. I had my suspicions but didn’t imagine all the twist and turn of events.
This story is a slow burn and definitely gets so much better. I was glued to the story the entire time leaving me in chills from learning the dark history of Windermere. There’s tons of mystery, secrets, betrayal, and murder you’ll be on the very edge of your seat!

Thank you so much to HTP books for the ARC!

I've been lucky enough to be an early reviewer for Lisa Unger 3 times now and there's one thing I can always count on: I will never be bored while reading her books!

This one was so much more than I was expecting. Just when I thought things were as crazy as they could possible be, Lisa threw in another surprise! I literally stopped a few times like *WHAT AM I READING*? That for me is when you know it's a good thriller! She doesn't follow a list of rules or stay within your expectations and she definitely GOES THERE. I'm literally laughing as I sit here and think about this book it was that BANANAS.

I did guess one of the twists and I was so proud of myself but it didn't take away from the enjoyment at all!

When Rosie and her husband inherit their uncle's apartment, they finally feel like things will take a turn for the better...boy were they wrong! Trust me when I tell you that you could not pay me to step foot inside the historic luxury NYC apartment building, the Windermere! The way Lisa sets the scene really made me feel like I was there and I don't always have an easy time picturing where I'm reading, so immersive writing is really huge for me!

There are definitely some very unforgettable characters (Abi, I'm looking at you) and such creative elements that add to the overall creepiness factor.

I definitely recommend for a thrilling read you won't be able to put down.

This will be available for purchase on March 5, 2024.

Wow. Just… wow. What a fantastic read. This one started out as kind of a slow burn thriller with a gothic vibe. But right around the 60% mark, I suddenly felt like I was in a car with no breaks at the top of a hill. The ending had me free falling. The pacing, the twists and turns, everything was spot on. As far as characterization, bingo again. But here’s the thing: I was right about everyone. But I was also wrong about them! Take that for what you will. Once you read it, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. This one was one you will struggle to put down. Be ready to clear your whole day for this one!

Huge thanks to Harlequin Trade Publishing and NetGalley for sending me this ARC for review! All of my reviews are given honestly!

In “The New Couple in 5B”, Chad and Rosie inherit a deluxe Park Avenue apartment from Chad’s uncle and finally feel as though their luck is changing. But all is not as it seems, and life becomes more complicated. Rosie was a stubborn but lovable character and I was on edge the entire time. This book was such a unique combination of thriller mixed with a ghost story. I loved the characters and how this story captures you on the very first page. The building is described in such vivid detail and it gives you a creepy vibe. There are the occasional sections from the perspective of Willa in the 60s that added another layer of mystery. It was a dynamic, thrilling ride and everything came together so well in a stunning climax. I highly recommend it to everyone who loves those twisty thrillers. Thank you so much to Lisa Unger, NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the early read in exchange for my thoughts. This thriller will release March 19, 2024 and I look forward to reading what she write’s next.

Another top-notch thriller from Lisa Unger! This book is a little different than some of her previous books, as it incorporates a supernatural vibe; questions such as “do ghosts exist?” And “can they haunt buildings?” Permeate this story. The protagonist, Rosie, and her husband, Chad, unexpectedly inherit an apartment in an historic NYC building. While they are thrilled, there is some tension around the move, and the fact that the building has seen more than its fair share of sudden deaths. I was captivated by this story and how the characters wrestled with their move to this supposedly haunted building, with their new neighbors, and with their pasts. The ending played out in an unusual way—while not everything that happened was a revelation, the process by which we arrived at the end definitely was. I highly recommend this thriller, and thank the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to review an advance copy of this book.
