The Lodge was full of great twists and character development. The author did a fantastic job describing the scene of the lodge throughout the book. At times it felt I was really there. It was captivating and interesting.
The one critique I have is that the ending felt somewhat rushed. I would’ve liked to have seen that play out somewhat differently. Perhaps more explanation of the reason for the character choices.
Overall, it is a 4/5 star book. I would definitely recommend it to others to read. Thank you for the opportunity to read this ARC.

After a toxic relationship with Clayton, Anna rebuilt her life with her fiance Joel. When Joel is headhunted to possibly become the vet of Twivali Safari Reserve, when they arrive at the lodge Anna sees that Clayton is also there and it doesn't seem like a coincidence.
It says it is set in South Africa, but where in South Africa the only clue is that it must be somewhere in KZN as that is where the couple flew into, but where in KZN. They called the airport Durban Airport and not by the correct name of King Shaka International Airport.
I like that the author discussed the issue relating to poaching as it is a serious problem in South Africa and other African countries, not only with relation to Rhino's but also to Elefants.
The name of the town Franschhoek was also misspelled as Franshoek.
Never ever under any circumstances compare a Braai to a BBQ.
Over all the book was very enjoyable and tense and I would look forward to read a book by this author again.

Joel, who is a vet, and Anna are planning their future together. Joel gets an invite to interview for a job at an African Safari. Anna goes along with Joel as he learns about what could be his future job. This should be an exciting time for the couple, but then Anna runs into an ex on a secluded reserve.
It took me a chapter or two to get into but once I did it was a good read. There were many twists and turns but the ending seemed a little far fetched for me.

She expected the holiday of a lifetime, she got a trip to hell.
Anna is happy with her partner Joel and when he is offered a chance of his dream job on a game reserve in South Africa she goes with him to see if they can start a new life there. Her new life soon meets her old when she discovers her ex Clayton is at the reserve, she’s escaped from him once but will she be able to again?
This is one of my safe go to authors and yet again she delivered. If you want a book you can’t put down then add this author to your list.

This is my first read by this author but it won't be my last. What a page turner!I couldn't wait to see what happened. It was so good; suspense, complex characters, mystery.
I was so invested! This author is a true storyteller.
Thank you for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.

When I started The Lodge I wasn't sure if I would get into it, how wrong was I it turned out to be an amazing and addictive read, couldn't get through the pages quickly enough!

When I tell you that The Lodge is a page turner containing so much suspense, do not think that I am exaggerating! In the beginning, you may become a bit annoyed with Anna, but stick with it. Every page brings about a new drama and intense experience. By the end of the book, you won’t be able to turn the pages fast enough. Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for the opportunity to review this ARC.

I loved everything about this book, Miranda Rijks knows how to create a suspenseful and chilling atmosphere that you are literally on the edge of your seat with your heart racing. It was very addictive and so intense that I couldn't guess what was happening. I had urgency to know what the ending would be that I carried the book everywhere. There were so many twists and turns. Great setting, wild ride, suspicious characters, and unpredictable. Highly recommend. I would give more than five stars.

I always look forward to reading anything and everything from this author. I loved the concept of this and have never read anything set in this location before. It was an atmospheric read. Loved the animals.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW
Review for 'The Lodge' by Miranda Rijks.
Read and reviewed for Netgalley, Miranda Rijks, Inkubator Books and Zooloo's Book Tours.
Publication date 26th July 2023.
This is the second book I have read by this author. I have previously read 'Forget Me Not' which I also highly recommend.
This novel consists of a prologue and 31 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!
'The Lodge' discusses some topics that may upset some readers or may not be suitable for others. I like to point this out ahead of time in my reviews so you can judge if this book is for you or not. In this book Miranda discusses toxic relationships, su1c1d3 and attempted r@p3.
OMG!!!! WHAT DID I JUST READ!!!! My heart is still absolutely pounding and I read the last page over an hour ago!!!
Wow!!! This book is fantastically written and had me hook, line and sinker from beginning to end. The descriptions were so in depth and vivid that the hair on my arms was standing on the ends and my heart was pounding throughout. The synopsis, title and cover were perfect for the storyline.
Miranda does it yet again with this absolutely gripping, hair raising and nerve shredding page turner!!! I'd you love psychological thrillers then you will absolutely love this or any of Miranda's books!! Just be warned you need to clear your schedule before even turning the front cover of this book as once you start you will be hooked from the first word to the last!!! I lost count how many times I told myself one more chapter before bed just to find out I had to read just the one more again as it kept on ending in a way I could not put it down!!! In the end I devoured it all in one sitting, going from having my kindle glued to my hand in the evening to staying awake until 1am as there was no way I was going to sleep without finishing it!!! Miranda takes her readers on an absolutely addictive, adrenaline fuelled rollercoaster ride of tension, suspense, empowerment, drama, stunning settings and so much more!!!! Talking about the settings just OMG!!!! One moment I was on my sofa in rainy Wales and the next I'm in the absolutely stunning setting of Africa in a luxurious lodge that regardless of what was going on in the storyline I did not want to leave!!! There were so many times where someone would speak to me and it took me a few moments to click I wasn't in Africa as Miranda's evocative writing skills just brought everything to life around me!! I was absolutely absorbed throughout this page turner. It is filled with tension, suspense and omg the twists!!! I DID NOT see them coming!!! A MASSIVE CONGRATULATIONS Miranda!! It is getting harder and harder to shock me but by God you did that over and over and over!!! What an ending!!! One of the most gripping unputdownable nerve wracking psychological thrillers I have EVER read!!! You lady have one hell of a talent and I cannot wait to get hold of your previous and future books. I cannot remember the last time I was so hooked by a book but you managed that big time!!! The storyline is filled with shocks, suspense, tension and so much more! There was so much going on and it was very fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat throughout and there is absolutely nothing left of my nails now!! The setting was absolutely stunning and OMG the descriptions really paint a perfect and clear picture to the point where you genuinely feel you are in Africa with Anna. It is set over multiple time lines. When books show what has happened in the past and what is happening in the present I find it really helps the reader (if it is well done) understand why things are happening and what has lead to the present activities and decisions. It also shows the bigger picture. Another absolutely gripping, must read success by this extremely talented author!! Clear your schedule before you start as I read this in one sitting as I could not put it down!! I was absolutely hooked!! I would absolutely love to see this turned into a movie!!!!
Congratulations Miranda on yet another absolutely gripping true page turner! This is exactly the reason why you are one of my favourite authors!!! Here's to your next success 🥂
Make sure you read to the very end of the book to read the first chapter of Miranda's 'The Other Mother' which promises to be just as addictive as this book and is one I'm definitely looking forward to reading myself!! You can also receive a copy of Miranda's short story 'Fatal Fury' by signing up at bit.ly/3hkZx8l
Overall an absolutely captivating, gripping, heart racing, never wracking, unputdownable addictive psychological thriller!!!

I really enjoyed this book! The characters were well developed and the story was engaging. I recommend that others try this book as well. Well done!

Miranda Rijks is one of my go to authors and I was really looking forward to reading The Lodge. I found it to be a quick paced, page turner of a story that I just could not put down. It has a great setting, interesting characters and plenty of twists. I highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for my ARC.

Not a particularly unique story. This one didn’t really get any publicity it was not a unique idea. The characters kind of fell flat for me. A solid 3 star mystery/thriller

A really engaging read, fast paced and hooked me from the start. I really enjoyed this one and will look forward to more by Miranda.

Loved this thriller the setting in South Africa was Amazing! And it was a page turner that kept me on the edge of my seat....with a bit of an unknown ending I hope this author will write a sequel!

This book had me hooked from the beginning. It was a real page turner. It was an exciting thriller. It had a great plot that played out fantastically

I had never read anything by Miranda Rijks before, but I'm sure I won't be the last. The fast-paced psychological thriller's writing style and continual buildup of tension were both excellent. Once you're completely engrossed in her writing, it's like that gradual ascent to the top of a roller coaster until you finally descend in dread and are suddenly smacked with an incredible twist. This was one crazy, thrilling trip full of tension, from the remote location to the sense of being cat and mouse pursued inside the confines of a Lodge by wild creatures with no way out.

An absolute page-turner! This gripping psychological thriller had me on the edge of my seat throughout. I couldn't put it down as I was immersed in the suspense and mystery, constantly trying to unravel the secrets hidden within the story.
The characters felt so real, and their complex relationships kept me invested in their journey. I found myself cheering for the protagonist as she faced the eerie and unsettling events at the lodge. Rijks' writing style is compelling, and she expertly weaves multiple plotlines that kept me thoroughly engaged.
Although there were a few moments where the pacing felt a bit slow, the overall plot and the author's skillful storytelling more than made up for it.
Thank you Netgalley for allowing me to read this ARC!

The Lodge was my first time reading a book by Miranda Rijks and it certainly won't be my last. I really enjoyed her writing style and the constant mounting suspense in this fast-paced psychological thriller. Once you're within the grips of her writing you're utterly hooked and it's like that steady climb to the top of a roller coaster before you ultimately plummet in fear and then get hit with an amazing twist. From the isolated setting to the cat & mouse hunted feeling of being trapped within the confounds of a Lodge by wild animals with no way out; this was one wild atmospheric tense ride.

Miranda Rijks is one of my favourite authors and this new book certainly didn’t disappoint.
I loved the setting and writing style. It’s fast paced and engaging.
It’s the perfect summer thriller and one that I’ll certainly be recommending.
