The Family on Smith Street by Elisabeth Carpenter is a masterfully crafted slow-burn thriller that expertly weaves family drama with layers of twisted suspense. Just when you think you’ve figured out where the story is going, another twist throws you off course, keeping you on your toes. It’s hard to trust any of the characters as you dive deeper into the story; everyone has secrets, but some are hiding far darker truths than others. The pacing is just right, and each character is well-drawn—creepy, dark, and chillingly flawed. Every member of the Smith Street family has something unsettling to hide, making for an intense and gripping read.
Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture, and Elisabeth Carpenter for the ARC.
Joanna, James and their teenage daughter Scarlett live in a perfect street in a perfect neighbourhood. It is safe and all the neighbours are very friendly. But things all change when Joanna doesn’t arrive home after a night out. She wakes up in a strange room that is like the one in her own home and realises that she has been kidnapped. We are then told the story of Joanna and James in two different timelines and also the story of the mysterious Alex and how he fits into the storyline. Throughout the book there was mystery, suspense and intrigue with so many secrets and lies. A good fast paced thriller.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
A good read, full of tension and twists. I liked the characters and enjoyed the relatively fast pace of the plot.
I really like Elisabeth Carpenter's writing and this was no exception; 5 star read. I'd happily recommend this page turner to anyone who likes a family / pysch thriller
A great read, different from many other thrillers around at the moment! Would highly recommend! Well written, compelling and creepy!
This was such a good read with lots of twists to keep me interested throughout the whole book! I will definately be looking for more books by this author!!
I really loved this! So well written, thrilling and exciting, I didn’t want it to end! I did feel claustrophobic at times too!! A solid thriller!
After a night out she doesn't return home and her daughter is concerned, her husband not so much which made me suspicious. There were so many ups and downs that I felt like I had eaten too much fairy floss but it was great while eating it. A brilliant physcological read!
A good read
Plenty of twists and turns
A good page turner
With a cracking ending
Thanks NetGalley

The Family on Smith Street by Elisabeth Carpenter and narrated by Sarah Durham was brilliant and gripping nail-biting psychological thriller that will just have you gripped from the very first chapter. It was gull of twists and turns and the narrator Sarah Durham was excellent for this book. I loved it and was so glad I had the audiobook especially as it went Christmas shopping with me! lol.
If you live in a picture perfect street. There, maybe a perfect family that people envy and wish they could be them, But, secretly behind those doors someone in that family maybe hiding a secret, and they would kill for keeping them a secret forever!
WoW this book was so good, I highly recommend this book.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A great thriller that keeps you guessing. If you’re new to thrillers, this would be a good book to start with. Add it to your TBR!
A good read. Definitely a page turner and that's what I like the most about thrillers. The multiple timelines and POVs were well written. The book is about a wife and mother that goes missing one night. It follows Joanna and her family.
It is an action packed thriller and ends up pretty decently. Not a jaw-dropping ending but the author has done a good job bringing it all together.
This is the first book I’ve read by #ElisabethCarpenter and I’m jumping on her books now! This #psychologicalsuspense novel revolving around a serial killer kept my interest throughout and then Carpenter threw a huge twist in at the end that left me stunned!
Sarah Durham made it all the better with her lovely narration of the audiobook.
Thank you, Elizabeth Carpenter,, Bookouture, #bookoutureaudio & netgalley for my ecopy & #audiobook! All opinions are my own.
Wow another absolutely brilliant book from bookouture and an author to add to the must read list. The Family on Smith Street is everything I hoped it would be and I have loved every second of reading this one.
How well do we know our families? Carpenter really explores that within this one. Do we know the identities of those who love and care for us? I am completely blown away by this one. This is unique, gripping and unpredictable.
This is a family with a lot of secrets to unravel. Carpenter has you fully questioning who you can trust, what’s real and how things will unfold.
This has been a brilliant read, I’ve devoured this in just one sitting. This is a book that kept me guessing throughout.
I loved the twists in this. I have literally been speechless reading this one. I’ve questioned all the characters as I’ve read. It became completely impossible to predict.
This is a book I have no hesitation in recommending. This is a gem from beginning to end.

Thank you author Elizabeth Carpenter, Bookouture publication & Netgalley for sharing the ARC.
This is a surprisingly good domestic suspense thriller narrated in different timeline , a current situation where a mother is kidnapped by unknown assailant & a worried husband & daughter figuring out what’s going on and who’s responsible. The past timeline gives the reader a story from a killer’s perspective all the way from his childhood to adulthood. Naturally we know these two stories & timelines will ultimately interconnect.
I thought I had the big reveal figured out only to know I was wrong , but ended up being right as the story progressed!! Certainly did a good job derailing me . The last portions of the story had more twists which I am on a fence , I feel it was overdone at this point , but this opinion can be subjective, the author did give a reason for the reveals which is more like an example for life comes to a full circle.
Nevertheless if you are new to thrillers this would be good pick.
I rate it 3.5 / 5 ⭐️ read .
Loved this book from start to finish , such a great story that kept you in tender hooks right to the end , I didn’t want to leave it down , it had great twists and turns and a brilliant physiological thriller . I loved it , great characters and so well written would really highly recommend this book as a must to read.
A good book with duel point of views. Which I liked. It is about a person who gets kidnapped and the events leading up to and after the kidnapping.
I picked this up because I liked the unique plot - she gets kidnapped and we get to read about the events following up to it and during it. I just didn't think the multiple POVs worked and the timeline jumping. It was just to confusing because I couldn't get who was who until the end. It was a bit too over the place.
