The Day I Lost Her, by Catherine Miller

Get the tissues ready! Yvonne has worked so hard to rebuild her life after a gambling addiction resulted in the breakdown of her marriage and loss of her home and her daughter, Tilly, who she hasn’t seen for eight years. When Tilly shows up, Yvonne should be overwhelmed with happiness, but she’s not… there’s an sinister undertone of deception running all the way through this story, which kept me guessing all the way through about Tilly’s motivation for tracking her mum down after all this time. There are some things that only a mother can know about her own child and as we know, a mother’s love is like no other. The emotion of this element of the story, combined with the sinister goings on make this book a great read.

I personally enjoyed the food surplus distributions as I hold this from my own home three times a week, along with a team of volunteers, just like Yvonne does and I could resonate with lots of the people and events of those evenings, both good and bad, and characters like Polly and Mr Jenkins added another excellent dimension to the story and to the character building of Yvonne and her team/friends.

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘The Day I Lost Her’ written by Catherine Miller in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Yvonne hasn’t seen her daughter Tilly since she was thirteen-years-old when she moved in with her ex-husband Simon and his new partner Rhoda, but not a day goes by when Yvonne hasn’t sent a letter, text message or email letting Tilly know that she hasn’t stopped loving her. While working as manager of the food bank Yvonne sees a young woman who says she’s Tilly but although she desperately wants her to be there’s something that doesn’t feel right.

‘The Day I Lost Her’ is a wonderful family drama where a woman’s life has reached rock bottom and she does what she feels is right at the time by letting her daughter go. The story starts slowly with Yvonne’s 57th letter to Tilly and her daughter’s reply to a previous letter. I’ve enjoyed getting involved with the perfectly described characters especially those of Yvonne, her friend Janice and their caring and supportive friends and customers at the food bank. The author’s style of writing has made this an intriguing novel that’s easy to read and difficult to put down and the further I’ve got the more my hope has increased that Yvonne’s story will have a happy ending. This is a wonderful novel and I recommend it.

Is she Tilly? Yvonne desperately wants it to be Tilly but is it? Yvonne last saw her daughter when Tilly was 13 and chose to live with her father when they divorced. And then Tilly disappeared, This is a familiar trope but Miller has injected good drama and characters- making this a page turner that actually will keep you guessing, Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC, A good read,

A heartfelt story of the love of a mother who will do whatever it takes to reunite with her daughter.

What a great story this book is. The love of a mother is the strongest bond there is.
To have that ripped away and then try to find it again is not easy but for this mom she will stop at nothing to get it back.

After Yvonne's divorce her 13 year old daughter Tilly moves in with her father. Yvonne has lost everything and is struggling to start again.

Yvonne has never forgotten Tilly and regularly sends letters and emails saying how much she misses her, writing all about her life and job.

Even though she's told Tilly has gone travelling, she still imagines seeing her everywhere she goes.

I was completely gripped by this heartbreaking story, it tugged at my heart strings and I couldn't wait to find out what happens to this family.

When you read a book and it makes you feel different types of emotions, then you know you have found a great author!!

I will definitely be looking out for more of Catherine Miller's books.

Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for an honest review.

"The Day I Lost Her" is a book about a mother who hit rock bottom and lost everything. She worked her way up to regain herself while consistently writing and emailing her daughter who she was under the impression wanted no contact with her..until she finds out the truth...
This book is a heartbreaking and heartwarming story all in one. It hits on various emotions and is written so well that it sucked me in from the beginning and I couldn't put the book down! There are twists in this book that you won't see coming and some you will, which I love in a book as it keeps me captivated.

A story of a woman’s child Tilly who disappeared…,this book raised my interest immediately. What had happened to Tilly? It is a well written novel, with punchy dialogue that rings true, and the descriptive writing brings the scenes to life.
