This was a really cute story overall and I did enjoy my time reading it, it just didn't have a big impact on me - I just personally didn't really connect to the main character and I think my biggest problem was that I liked but didn't love the art style. Which is definitely a very subjective thing but just something that makes me enjoy graphic novels less. Overall would recommend if you think it sounds good, it just wasn't my favorite graphic novel ever.

Marj is a teenager unlike any other at her high school. After losing her mother, she is attempting to hold the family and their business up, but there are not enough hours to keep the dry cleaning business going.

Wendell is a young ghost living in a ghost town. Unable to open up about his death or accept his fate as a sheet, he hops on a train and decides to break ghost law and fraternise with humans.

This a beautifully illustrated graphic novel about the hardships of grief, friendship and parentification. With just enough light humour to ease the subject topic, this would be a wonderful read for anyone aged 12 and over.

I honestly cried a lot while reading this. I found the drawings and the art style absolutely beautiful.
The story is about loss and it was very impactful in my opinion and I could feel the emotions coming through the pages! Our protagonists are Marjorie: a young girl who lost her mother and Wendell : a ghost of a child who lost his life way too soon. They both struggle and are overwhelmed by their new situation. In the end, after many struggles they come together and help each other.

I found the ending particularly beautiful.

Sheets follows the story of Marjorie, the living, and Wendell, the not so living, in their journey of understanding and acceptance. The vivid colors and story were magnificent. I liked the journey each character took, how their lives unknowingly intermingled and how they ended up helping Each other have a happy life, which neither had prior to Wendell coming to the human realm. Marj and Wendell in the beginning of the story had tragic and difficult lives that continues through a majority of the book. In the end they, along with some other friends, work together to create a happy life.

A sweet, thoughtful, and slightly melancholic graphic novel with an essence of nostalgia and a great sense of humor woven in its threads. From the characters to the town the story is set in, from the artwork to the soul of the story, this one is a lovely, lovely read, not to be missed.

Marjorie Glatt feels like a ghost, I withdrawn 13 year old takes care of her little brother, father, and their family laundromat whilst grieving the loss of their mother 🌸

Her father is not the same since losing their mother, and if Marjorie doesn't mind the laundromat before and after school what would they eat?

She is lonely, sad and vulnerable and unfortunately becomes easy pickings for some town douche who is trying to get her to hand over the laundromat so that he can build a yoga retreat and spa - without paying her.

The town has since been invested with ghosts, one such ghost, a young boy named Wendell is drawn to the music Marjorie plays one night on the piano. He discovers the laundromat and spends each night building forts with the washing and having some fun - he soon discovers someone trying to sabotage the laundromat at night and tries to help, only when caught by Marjorie - it looks like HE is the one sabotaging them.

Oh my gosh, this was so cute - this has pretty much been on my radar since it's release date in 2018, whilst browsing Netgalley the other night during one of my NO SHELF CONTROL binges - I found this little gem under the 'read now' section and hit READ before I could talk myself out of it 🤣🙈 #sendhelp

I devoured this in under an hour - it's honestly so wholesome and cute. Even the little things like the satire around the ghosts been presented with a sheet as uniform, and Wendell still being a kid who wants to build forts in the afterlife, to loneliness, loss and grief ♥️

I would highly recommend this little number and yes you guessed it, when I have a chance I'm going back for the the second book 'delicates' published in 2021 and then the newest release 'Lights' is coming out next month 😍👌

I thought this book had a very cozy feel to it and it was so simple to read that I read it all in one sitting. I liked Marjorie as a character and I loved getting to see her coming to terms with her mothers death. I also enjoyed the authors take on the ghost world, though I did find it a bit weird that they don't like humans seeing as they were all humans before. I thought the storyline of the catoonishly evil mustach man wanting to buy the laundromat a little unnecessary, I felt like they could've just focused on Marjories grief and her struggles, and I thought the end was too rushed as well. But overall it was a heartwarming story about 2 kids learning to live again.

Beautiful and heartfelt! This story touched me in so many ways. It perfectly showcased the impact after the loss of a mother.

Definitely wasn't the story I was expecting to read when this graphic novel became popular a couple years ago, but I'm not mad at it! It was a bit confusing at times to read, but I figured it out in the end.
Also wasn't expecting for it to almost make me cry at one point....
The one thing I didn't really like was the art style, but that's subjective so it's fine. definitely gonna continue this series (at least I think its a series?).

I really really enjoyed this graphic novel. The drawings were cute and the story made me emotional at the end. We understand than the girl is suffering from bullying while mourning her mother. Her father gave up on life and she tries to keep up by herself. I will certainly recommend this book !

This book was awesome! So cosy and a very nice story with excellent artwork. I really got into this and the characters and read it in one sitting. I’ve now also downloaded the next 2 in the series so looking forward to reading those too.

This was a good children's graphic novel. I especially loved the color palette. I enjoyed Wendell's character and felt his story was more entertaining overall. I do love that story addressed big important topics. I ended the book wishing the story impacted me a bit more.

👻 I was drawn to this book by the cover and then intrigued by the synopsis. Plus, it is a graphic novel and I love reading those from time to time.

👻 This book is about a girl and a ghost. The girl, Marjorie, is a teenager and overwhelmed with life since her mother passed away. Wendell, the ghost, died too young and has afterlife troubles of his own. They are both trying to fit in and navigate their lives in the best way they can.

👻 This story is sad and a bit of a downer if I’m honest. Yes, there were parts that were enjoyable, particularly scenes involving the ghost. I did like the friendship that developed between Marjorie and Wendell, and some of the story was quite heartfelt. However, the story strongly emphasized grief and loneliness, and for me it was too much heaviness to truly enjoy.

👻 The artwork was quite unique – really unlike anything I’ve seen in a graphic novel before.

👻 Usually MG/YA books resonate with me strongly, but unfortunately this one didn’t. That doesn’t mean the book is bad, it just means it wasn’t for me. FYI - The book has some accolades: 2018 B&N Best Book, 2021 Amazon Teacher’s Pick, 2020 TLA Little Maverick Graphic Novel Reading List. So, read this book if it intrigues you.

There was a lot of hype about this graphic novel when it first came out, and I've finally had the pleasure to read it, and now I understand the hype myself. What a beautiful story. It is an easy read graphic novel that is beautifully illustrated throughout. Contains lots of friendly ghosts. Friendship. It's an uplifting read. I already need book two. I fell in love with this story. Highly recommend. A well-deserved five stars from me.

The illustrations were gorgeous and I really enjoyed the story overall. I thought the ghost-world was one of the more creative takes I've seen. I did find the storyline of the man who wanted to buy the laundromat a little off-putting and sus, but otherwise loved this weird, emotional and poignant little read.

A beautiful book about a ghost & a 13 year girl dealing with grief in their own ways. This is a perfect book for middle grade kids who are dealing with loss to read.

I felt bad for Marjorie and everything she has to deal with at such a young age. I hope things get better for her in the sequel.

I read this on NetGalley and I’m SO glad my friend told me about it. Great graphic novel about dealing with loss and trusting in others even when you feel like you can’t. Very heartwarming and I can’t wait to read the next in the series.
