This was such a great graphic novel!!! I usually don't read them, but I heard about this one BookTube and I figured I would give it a go and I am glad I did. This was not only a great little story, but the graphics were fantastic to look at. I absolutely loved the color scheme and found that it was very easy to read. Part of why I struggle with graphic novels is that they are usually too busy for me, but this one seemed more structured and organized for me. I loved this one so much that I will definitely be picking up the sequels.
This was really sweet. A story about grief and kindness and ghosts 😉
The drawing style reminded me of a few stories I read when I was younger. The story was really well developed and just the right length!

Marjorie runs the family laundromat while living life feeling like a ghost. Wendell is a ghost, but he hasn't come to terms with that yet. He entertains himself in the laundromat while unknowingly causing problems for Marjorie and her family.
this was a heartwarming story, and the artwork was cute! i thought this was an interesting idea, imaging ghosts in the form of sheets. however, i personally found it difficult to distinguish between some of the ghosts and had to reread a few pages to understand who was speaking
I have to admit, I read this graphic novel a few years ago now, but I saw it here and had to review it.
Sad, thought provoking, beautifully crafted in both word and image, this book was the kind of book I felt the urge to send screenshots of to my partner (not that I condone that, of course). In fact, I later snuck into her library account and withdrew it for her, I was so determined that she read it.
One if my favorite comics of the past few years.
This was so heartwarming and adorable! The art and colour palette was stunning, it reminded me of the illustrations in my old English textbooks T-T ⋆。˚
I love wholesome little graphic novels <3
"Sheets" is an absolute gem of a graphic novel. Brenna Thummler's writing and artwork come together harmoniously to create a touching and unforgettable tale that will stay with readers long after they turn the final page. It's a delightful and emotionally poignant graphic novel that weaves together themes of loss, loneliness, and the magic of unexpected connections that beautifully captures the complexity of emotions, the power of empathy, and the magic that can be found in even the most unlikely of friendships.
Thummler's artwork is a true masterpiece. The use of soft colors and ethereal imagery adds a dreamlike quality to the storytelling, which enhances the book's magical elements. The expressive facial expressions of the characters allow readers to connect deeply with their emotions, making the narrative all the more immersive.
Beyond its emotional core, "Sheets" also touches upon important themes of resilience, empathy, and the significance of family and community.
Highly recommended for anyone seeking a heartwarming and uplifting read.
I loved the art in this book so much! I deeply connected with Marjorie and her story. This was honestly so beautiful in a way I didn’t expect.
Before anything, I would like to thank Brenna Thummler, the publisher, and NetGalley for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I don't usually have much to say when I just simply love a book, since I tend to focus on flaws to justify my star ratings. This was a lovely comic book to read. It was a fast read with a cute, heartwarming, and fun story with beautiful illustrations. I'm excited to start reading the next ones in the series right now!
This was such a sweet graphic novel. In the beginning it took me a bit to get into the story, but after maybe the first 50 pages I’d completely fallen in love with the characters. Apart from the heart-warming story and really sweet characters I also loved the different art styles in this. Especially the way the pages taking place in the ghost world look different to the bits taking place in the human world, I love stuff like this.
Thank you to NetGalley for this story.
This story was so unique in the way it covered grief and friendship. Having someone close to pass away is hard, especially for Marjorie. After her mother passed she was placed with all the responsibilities from running the laundry mat to taking care of her little brother until she met Wendell, the ghost.
I was so absolutely frustrated with Marjorie’s father. I understand grief is crippling but as a mother I can’t imagine acting the way he did. I saw a lot of myself in Marjorie. This story was so sweet and sincere.
My favorite line “Who- who’s there?” “Wendell”
Absolutely loved this.
If this isn’t the perfect graphic novel I don’t know what it! This is such a cosy story that you can’t help get invested in. The illustration is beautiful and the story is so easy to read and get involved in. The last book in this trilogy comes out this year and I’ll be reading the remaining two and following Brenna’s new releases.
Thank you Netgalley for a free copy of this graphic novel in exchange for an honest review.
In Sheets, we meet Marj, a teenager responsible for running her family's laundromat after her mother's passing. Her dad is always in his room and her younger brother is too young. However, Nigel plans on turning the laundromat into a five star resort. What's a teenage girl to do? When she gets help from an unexpected visitor, things only get worse. Will Marj be able to save the family business.
This graphic novel dealt with really difficult topics: death, depression, bullying, and the afterlife. I honestly don't know if I love how the author handled the topics. I felt like there was a lot of sadness and death. I know it's a story about a ghost, but I expected a little more lightheartedness
This books should be read for mature audiences, like 7th grade or older. I would not recommend for younger readers. The author did a good job of moving the plot and developing the main characters. I think this could be a good graphic novel for the right audience.
A young girl, Marj, is grieving after the death of her mother and trying to run her family's laundromat since her father has not been himself. A tricky business owner is trying to get Marj to sell the business, and uses some illegally and crafty ways to cause her customers not to trust the business. With the help of a ghost escaped from the land of the dead, Marj tries her best to keep the family business afloat.
Overall, it was a heartwarming story of a girl trying the keep her mother's dream alive through the family laundromat. Overall, the art style had a calming, pale, color palette, and an older style (everything is so cartoony and bright these days; this graphic novel reminded me of other graphic novels from back in the day). It wasn't my favorite art style , but the illustrator definitely has talent.
The story overall was not my favorite; I felt a lot of things got brushed over; there were no consequences for the business mans illegal actions, and the ghost defied all the laws of ghosts and should have been in big trouble. Don't get me wrong, I love that the other ghosts decided to help, but truly there was no character development or any reason why they should have done this. I think teen readers and readers who have gone through the stages of grief will be able to relate to this story and enjoy it.
3/5 stars
I cannot even begin to tell how much I loved this incredibly sweet graphic novel! I was captivated by the cover as soon as I saw it and the content was beyond what I hoped it would be. This is the story of an isolated young girl trying to run her family laundromat while taking care of her brother and depressed father, doing all at the same time while trying to cope with her mother's death. When Wendell the ghost starts haunting the laundromat, everything changes both for our heroine and little ghost. The immersive world building, the bittersweet story and all the characters are so interesting you never want to let go. I especially adored the drawings because it created a sort of nostalgia, they all look a lot like the graphic stories and language books of 90s. What a delight! I cannot wait to read the second book in the series.
This is so so so so cute!!! The story is touching, heartwarming and funny. The illustrations are simply beautiful to look at, I would gladly put some of these pages up on my walls. I'm honestly super impressed by this graphic novel.
Thank you, NetGalley and Oni Press, for the E-Arc!
I think was a great comic about loss, death, and friendship. The characters have to find their own way through grief. The story is tragic and full of longing. But it also explores themes of friendship and strength in togetherness. Marjorie endures so much to preserve her family and mother's laundry mat. The ending was extremely sweet!
I expected to LOVE this one, but I just didn't. The scenery and the colour palette is stunning even though the human illustrations were something I'm not really fond of. Sadly, the actual story just fell flat.
I get that it's a lot about loss/grief, but the story just didn't really make sense to me. Like there was no point to what was going on. This is supposed to be middle grade reading level and honestly some of the story was confusing to me so I'd be surprised if every young read actually understands the concepts in this book.
I didn't like any of the characters (besides Wendell) and I just kept thinking the entire time how miserable everyone looked. There were plot lines added that made no sense to the storyline.
But I will say that the 90's setting and all the 90's vibes, I was living for it! Totally here for it and honestly is what kept me invested!
I do wanna read the next two in the series, so I'll keep going!
It's been hard trying to find a physical copy of this book but I was overjoyed when I saw it on NetGalley. It told a beautiful tale of grief and loss and how a family struggles to cope while their family business is threatened. The magical realism laced through the story was captivated really well and I am looking forward to the next instalments of this series.

Thank you netgalley for the e-arc.
This was delightful, i really liked the artstyle and the exploration of feeling like an outsider both as a human and a ghost. It was really interesting.
Although feel like it wrapped up too quickly, i still really enjoyed it
This was a cute and quick read but overall just meh. I liked the art and the plot wasn't the worst thing I've ever read but it was definitely far from being a favourite.
If you like cute little graphic novels targeted towards a young adult/middle grade audience with some magical/fantastical elements, this book may be for you. If you're someone who isn't the biggest lover of graphic novels, maybe do some thinking first before deciding if this book is right for you.
I will probably pick up the sequel when I need a little lighthearted read, but I don't expect much from the rest of this series.
