Kezia Hobson is ready for a change. Her husband Andrew died 5 years ago and so she sells her house and her husband’s business in San Francisco and moves to New York to be closer to her girls, Kate and Felicity.
Her penthouse apartment is amazing. It’s 60 floors up with stunning views of the city, including The Empire State Building. She is acclimating and so happy with her new city when on 4th of July there’s a terrorist attack on NY with the same magnitude of 9/11. She meets her neighbor Sam on that fateful night.
The story follows Kezia, Sam, Kate and Felicity as they navigate their lives and relationships (romantic and familial).
I enjoyed the book and read it very quickly. Kezia and Sam were a lovely couple and I was so excited for Kate at the end of the book. I felt their happiness while reading. The story had me forgetting where I was and I was completely immersed.
First and foremost I must shout out to Danielle Steel and Random House, Ballantine, Delacorte Press for granting my wish!
You know how much Danielle rocks my world and yes, it's a constant feeling whenever I read her books as she's the Queen of Romance and Fiction combined!
I'm thrilled I can also relate on so many levels to each powerful novel in some way.
In this case we have an older woman who struck out in life but for which the daughters are now picking up the slack.
Not only is it never too late but it's also no time frame on making a change in one's life. Don't feel as though you need confinement as a seed can grow anywhere the light shines.
As always the characters held their own quite well with action, suspense, intrigue, and romance around every corner. Some may say it's almost too perfect how the pieces fall into place but for me that's the whole point. To expect the unexpected but in the end sometimes life throws curves and you must stand in faith while being guided to bigger and more vast land.
New connections and networks can be appetizing in many ways. In forming new relationships as well as new romances.
Kezia Cooper Hobson may have lost a spouse from Covid but she's still young and fanciful. She need not worry about her future role.
In this case she's embarking on a new journey at 59yo and her two daughters are about to inherit some new waves from the mighty ocean. Sometimes those waves are calm, sometimes it's high tide, and sometimes you get caught up in that rip current that takes you out.
Be careful as you never know when the storms come in to greet you and what might become of those very storms upon the time they embark.
You can be certain of one thing...it's never too late for dreams and to be born again. Whether that's with a Mr. Right or placing Mr. Wrong behind the rear view mirror to singlehood.
Stand up and be heard!
Thank you Danielle Steel, the publishers, and Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for this honest review.
Five years after the death of her husband, Kezia Hobson moves to a luxurious penthouse in New York. Her terrace is separated from the owner of the neighboring penthouse but on a warm Fourth of July evening shortly after she arrives, the fireworks display is interrupted by what is thought to be a terrorist bombing. “Are you watching this?” asks her neighbor, Sam Stewart, a widower and movie star at the Tom Cruise level. Since Kezia had trained as a nurse, she and Sam rush to help victims of the attack. Their friendship quickly becomes more serious and soon Kezia introduces him to her daughters Kate and Felicity and they all meet Sam’s son John. Relationships change, love is found and there are second chances.
We don’t live in a world where there are doormen, penthouse apartments and views of Central Park. We don’t live in a world with a beach house in the Hamptons big enough to hold an entire family and guests. We don’t live in a world of designer clothing, famous fashion models, huge engagement rings and weddings in museums. But we’d like to! And it’s fun to spend couple of hours reading about that world and imagining. And that’s the joy of Danielle Steel. 5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Danielle Steel for this ARC.
I was expecting another cookie cutter book from Danielle Steel boy I was wrong. This book had depth and written from true heart. What was written about marriage was heartwarming and very practical. I just wish the ending had a more practical ending instead of the fairytale life. I think the readers will applaud this book as I did
I loved this story. Kate moves across the country to spend more time with her daughters. Kids sometime forget about parents until he/she needs them. Danielle Steel has done it again. She brought us love, tragedy and hardship in a wonderful story.
WOW! This is a beautiful story of tragedy and finding joy again.
I loved all the characters and their unique traits. Each so different, but with battles and obstacles to face and work through. The fictitious terror attacks were devastating, as most will reflect on the time of 9/11. But I love how Danielle Steel wove the tragedy as a way to heal and live. Loved it from cover to cover.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I love books with strong women. Kezia is a great character and Sam is so easy-going. Senseless tragedy introduces Kezia and Sam and immediately cements a friendship between the two. I loved everything about this story.
Thank you Danielle Steel, Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
I am torn on how to review this book.
I enjoyed the Kenzie story line along with her daughters, and I thought it was well written. The bombing felt wrong to me in this setting.
Loved reading the enthralling and engrossing story. After being widowed for five years, Kezia sells her home and husband's company, wants a fresh start in a new place, moves from San Francisco to New York, and lives next door to a famous actor. Read the highly recommended, wonderfully written, and a must read riveting story by the fabulously talented author, Danielle Steel.
I was in New York City and watched the towers burn and collapse. I remember the signs of missing people on telephone pokes and the acrid smell that permeated the air. This book really resonated with me and what was absolutely true is how the city came together and showed live and compassion to all the victims and their families. A line in the book to live joy and be happy is correct. It was evident in Felicity and her warm nature and pure joy in living. I can see why her and Blake were such a perfect fit together and wanted to create a life that embraced their successes and wanted the best for each other. I am glad that Kate chose to walk away from her stagnated life with Jack as she truly did not love him. With him coupled with her feeling about her father, she was bitter and desperately unhappy. John helped her find joy. Kezia and Sam shared loss and an understanding of the repercussions that it entails but they chose love and the need to move forward and embrace life. The ending was perfect as it is never too late for a dream to be born.
Overall, I enjoyed this novel and found it a quick, entertaining read. A bit of Steel’s tendency to be repetitive with back story details has creeped into this book, but the storyline remains strong, and the two main characters are likeable and engaging. This is a story of Kezia, a middle-aged extremely wealthy widow, who moves from San Francisco to New York City to start a new life and be near her daughters. The book takes a jarring turn and grabs the reader for almost the remainder of the book. Kezia meets her neighbor, Sam, also a wealthy widower and their friendship forms the core of the book, The ending did seem a little rushed and I was left wanting more! Can we get another book Danielle and follow the 2 sisters please?!

Loved this book! What a wonderful blend of a tragic situation and the ability of the characters in the book to get through it and find love again. It was nice to read about a woman that was older and her ability to find love. Great characters and a typical Danielle Steel story! One of my favorite authors- her books always make me feel happy and hopeful! Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing and Danielle Steel for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
I have been on a Danielle Steel kick lately! It's like visiting an old friend. This one was enjoyable also exploring around the theme of it's never too late. It's never too late to move across the country, find love, or restart a career as main character Keiza does. The added NYC explosions were an interesting plot point. Overall an enjoyable read.
This was an amazing book about Kezia , a widow who recently moved to New York City to be close to her daughters Kate and Felicity. She is only there few weeks when she meets her neighbor Sam, an actor who is also a widower. On the 4th of July, as they are watching the fireworks from her terrace, a disaster strikes New York, At that time one daughter is in Paris and the other in Africa, This begins a great story. I do not write spoilers so this is A MUST READ BOOK.
Kezia Cooper Hobson sold her home in Pacific Heights, California and her interest in her husband’s venture capital firm. Her husband Andrew had died five years earlier from COVID. She decided to move to New York because both her daughters lived in New. Kezia was woman who was originally from Vermont that worked as a nurse practitioner in with her father who was a doctor in Vermont. Kezia’s oldest daughter Kate was a writer whose father didn’t want to be a father. He was a doctor who wanted to go to Africa and help the underprivileged people there. He gave up all rights to his daughter. She was adopted by Andrew when Kezia married him. Felicity was quite a bite younger than Kate and she was a well known model who lived with an affluent man in the business world who was divorced man with a young son. In New York Kezia moved into one half of a penthouse apartment that was shared in the other half with Sam Stewart a well known actor. Shortly after her move there was a bombing very close to her apartment that caused mass destruction, death and casualties. Both Kezia and Sam volunteered to help. Interesting book that developed the story of life and love between Sam and Kezia, both of her daughters, Sam’s son John and their significant others. Another good Danielle Steel book that I would recommend to others.
This was my first ever Danielle Steel book and I can’t believe it took me so long to read one of hers! It was so great. Now I know why my grandma loves her so much. It was a perfect, cozy, simple romance. Kezia finds love after love when her husband passes away in a most unlikely situation. A bond forged through a traumatic experience with hot movie star, Sam. We also get to see how her adult daughters, Felicity and Kate find love. I really liked the viewpoint of a mothers love for her grown children. Overall, 4/5 ⭐️
Thank you Random House Publishing Group-Ballantine, Delacorte Press, Netgalley, and Danielle Steel for my eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Any books that Danielle Steel writes I will read, it's that simple. She pumps out an incredible amount of titles each year and they are similar in style, but are so comforting to read. This one is about Kezia, a mother in her sixties that's been widowed for five years, who needs a change. She decides to leave the west coast and move back east to be closer to her roots and her daughters. Her daughters are amazing women who have their own lives to sort out, Her youngest daughter seems to have all aspects of her life together much to the consternation of her older sister who is living with a man she's not sure she loves and a life she's not sure she likes once she does some soul searching in a remote village in Africa. While her daughters are figuring out their lives Kezia is settling into her new life in New York until a catastrophic terrorist attack happens that thrusts her into a new life. She makes new friends, finds a purpose, and moves on with her life in a meaningful way. Of course there's romance, doesn't everyone have a handsome movie star with a heart of gold living next door? Watching their relationship develop is sweet, but a little unrealistic. It's very fun though and it's fiction, which allows us to imagine if this really happened.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for allowing me to review this title in advance.
I liked this book and the characters. I did have some issues with the terrorist attack and wish maybe that was either toned down or handled differently. I understand the purpose for it but it is a bit triggering. Maybe that was the intention. Overall I enjoyed it though.
Kezia is a wealthy widow who decides to move from the West Coast, where she shared a life with her husband to the East Coast, specifically New York. Shortly after her move, as she is settling into her new penthouse, tragedy strikes, and she is a witness to an event reminiscent of 9/11. However, the book is not all about tragedy. We also get the opportunity to view the various relationships of the characters as they learn about love and loss. This is a quick read and seems to be a departure from the norm for Danielle Steel, but that does not detract from the story line at all. Overall, it is an excellent read that I hated to put down. Looking forward to more Danielle Steels books. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for granting my with for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Great story about family, growing up and falling in love. Characters and easy to identify with and make fiction seem real life. Perfect story to get lost in and want to share it with another person. Recommend.
