I, once again, was not disappointed by this continuing series. I like how in the past books we have been introduced (at least to me) to Eurydice as a meek and shy woman, Orpheus as a playboy and Charon as stone cold. Like I said, that's the perception I got. I loved that this book showed us a different side of each of these characters while bringing the storyline (and OMG I truly didn't see that coming!) further alone. It held me captive the entire time. I really don't think anyone else can truly rival Katee Robert when it comes to writing kink.
As a die hard Katee Robert fan, it was no surprise that I picked up this book and absolutely flew through it! It was so much fun to be back in the Dark Olympus world, getting to see some of our fan favourites and also getting to see these characters finally get their story.
I've been rooting for their story ever since starting this series because I just knew it was going to be good & Katee did not disappoint in making this story probably one of my favourites to date. The grovelling in this book was honestly impeccable. I live for men who grovel for their women's forgiveness.
It was utter perfection. Absolutely loved this one!
Thank you NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for an honest review!
This was such a great continuation of the Dark Olympus series. I love how the politics are being incorporated into the spice. There is so much going on in both the upper and lower cities. It was so nice to be back with the Dimitrou girls and in the lower city. Seeing Hades and Persephone again was also a nice little treat. It was great to see Eurydice grow as a character as well. We have only ever really seen her as the younger sister who needs saving. I don't blame her for wanting to change that and she definitely did. Orpheus also had a great redemption arc in this book. I cannot wait for more of this series and to see where it is all leading!
Midnight Ruin is the sixth installment in Katee Robert’s Dark Olympus series. I was looking forward to this installment in the series, especially realizing Katee was taking us back to the Lower City where Hades and Persephone reside. I was ready to get out of the Upper City and hopefully get away from the drama that was unfolding, but unfortunately, it looked like it started to trickle down to the Lower City within this book.
First things first, I’m enjoying this series from Katee Robert but have found some of the books are a hit-and-miss with me. This is the case with Midnight Ruin, and I’m upset that I didn’t enjoy it because I’ve loved Katee’s MMF and Polyamorous Romance storylines. I loved learning more about Eurydice’s character and loved that she and Charon were finally hooking up with one another, but when it came to Orpheus being with them, I wasn’t fully invested. I hold grudges and think that Eurydice should have kicked Orpheus to the curb and not accepted him back in her life, or at least made him grovel more. Orpheus didn’t deserve Eurydice, even if he was feeling sorry for what he did to her, and that’s all thanks to Charon confronting him. Don’t get me wrong, I did enjoy the part where Eurydice gave him orders and degraded him, but I felt she should have made him work for it more to win her back.
I liked being back in the Lower City and seeing the inner workings of how Hades and his people handle things. He does not play around when it comes to the safety of everyone he’s responsible for, especially his wife. I wouldn’t want to cross paths with Hades, that’s for sure, and I wouldn’t want to cross paths with Charon either. Charon is Hades right-hand man for a reason.
I didn’t think I would like Eurydice after what she did in Neon Gods, but she redeemed herself. She was able to get information that helped Hades and the other Thirteen on who was actually behind the downfall that was happening in the Upper City.
One thing I’ve noticed with the books is that it’s become more political and less focused on Greek Mythology. It’s all due to what happened in previous books in the series and how the Thirteen are being targeted. I’m interested to find out what is going to happen to the Upper City after what Hades had to do to keep him and his people safe in this one. It’s definitely going to cause a rift with the other Thirteen, but it puts Zeus and the others on the spot to deal with the mess they started in the first place.

Spice/Steam: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 (Katee is one who always writes some spicy, unique scenes, and that’s no different with Eurydice, Charon and Opheus, even though I wasn’t fully invested in Orpheus in the relationship.)
Will I read the next book in the series? Even though I only gave this book 3.5 stars, that doesn’t mean I won’t stop reading this series. I enjoyed being back in the Lower City and learning more about Eurydice and Charon, but it won’t be my favorite installment.
Standalone or Part of Series: I feel the Dark Olympus series would be best read in order.
Would I recommend this book/series? Yes. If you haven’t started this series and enjoy Greek Mythology with a darker and sexier twist, then this series may be something up your alley.

I honesty think I'm over this series. I liked this slightly better than Cruel Seduction but not by much to be honest. This series now feels like it's only real purpose is to teach people about different types of relationships (i.e. poly, puppy play, etc.) with the actual story taking a back seat. I no longer care about most of the characters or what's going on and honestly, I don't think I'm going to read the last 3 books.
The absolute intricacy of the politics in this series is just to die for. Ive been waiting for this coupling since the beginning of this series -I am a wh@re for hadestown- and it did not disappoint. The groveling was top notch and I loved the talk about guilt/shame and how to handle it in a healthy way. Eurydice did ruffle my feathers a slight bit but as the youngest of 5 girls in my family I know what it is like to be smothered.. So she gets a pass for being a little extra impulsive. The differences between Charon Orpheus and Eurydice were a great juxtaposition that lent really well to balancing out the most extreme characteristics of each.
P.s I know the decision Hades made was very in character but I want to fight him and Persephone just a little bit...
Also that reveal!! I totally managed to guess the name of the benefactor but I did not put together the connection so I am really excited for that to play out.
Eurydice has always been babied by her family, but she's finally ready to step out on her own. She was tasked with trying to turn Ariadne and get information on why the barrier is failing and who is seeding chaos in Olympus.
Charon has been Eurydice's best friend and protector since the night Orpheus betrayed her and he has empowered her to protect herself going forward. He also loves her but is willing to be what she needs instead of what he wants - Eurydice is still hurt and confused by what happened with Orpheus. They can't start a relationship with Orpheus' memory standing between them, so Charon invites Orpheus into the lower city so everyone can get closure.
Orpheus has spent the last few months coming to terms with who he used to be, and he'll do anything to make things right with Eurydice. Charon is willing to have Eurydice any way he can, even if that means that Orpheus comes too.
She was *spicy* and honestly, the best kind of spice. I had a great time reading this novel, and it might be one of my favorites in the Dark Olympus series. I love getting a glimpse into the lower city, and I can't wait to find out what happens next.
Thank you so much for an advanced copy of Midnight Ruin by Katee Robert!
I love this book series so much, but the last two books (this one included) have left me feeling kind of meh. I don't know, but these books aren't really doing much for the plot of the series!
I was prepared for another book about a throuple in Midnight Ruin, and sure, it does have some pretty spicy moments...but it also has some power play moments I'm not really that hip on. That's just a preference, but those moments combined with juvenile writing in many parts made this book a bit bleh for me.
I feel like these characters had so much potential, and Katee Robert wasted that potential in an effort to just bring some DP to the page.
This is the second dud in a row with his series (and my third dud from KR in a row), so I'm not sure I'll be in a rush to continue the series, which is sad...because I was so looking forward to Zeus' book!

Katee Robert deserves her ass and her soul ate for this freaking book. May your pillow always be cold, may your regular fries always have curly ones, may your hair always shine and your hands continue slaying.
I have been expecting this book since day freaking one ok. If there was something I wanted in this series was this story. The puppy play was simply a nice little treat I didn’t know I needed but consumed so voraciously!!!! Thanks to the Casablanca team for this ARC and the air it brought to my lungs.
There’s no new praises I can sing Katee because at this point I’ve sang them all yet somehow she just continues to get better and better. I shouldn’t be surprised this book was going to be good because she’s been setting them up for so long, but I got to the end and I was still shocked to my core. This one is more spicy romance than plot but once the plot hit it was so exciting I found myself on the edge of my seat. At this point, I have zero guesses as to where the series is going with how the plot has developed. I don’t know how we’re getting out if this mess but I cannot wait to find out!!
It was perfection. All of it. The character development for Eurydice was incredible. To see her grow from this overprotected, shy and weak little girl into the badass woman she was by the end, standing up to Hades was just amazing. I devoured Charon without questions but he is just so perfect. And then Orpheus… sweet little puppy Orpheus had a really good arc too! And then the three of them together just go so well. I thought as far as her MMF in the series went, Wicked beauty would take the cake but nope, I’m staying with the puppy play BARK BARK BARK.
It was also such a bonus to see more of Persephone being a badass too!! Ugh I miss them.
What’s going to hold me over you ask? Hermes’ book and obviously Hera and Zeus’ book 🙋🏻♀️🙋🏻♀️ I will be kicking and screaming when these two come out. Specially Hera/Zeus with all the tension in their story and after that little wedding night bonus story.
As a mythology nerd, I absolutely loved the characters in this book! It is part of a series but can be read as a standalone book. However, I do wish I started from the beginning so I would have understood the back story a little more.
There was the perfect balance of spice, drama and mythology - I flew through this one! I will definitely go back and read more of this series. I found it super enjoyable and a quick, easy read!
Subtracting some stars because I do think the beginning felt a little rushed, but again - could be my fault for not reading the previous books in the series.
Thank you so much Katee Robert and Netgalley for the ARC of this book. All opinions are my own.
A fun and raunchy Katee Roberts, I like how this book is much more of a fast burn then the previous books. We get hot and heavy very quickly and besides a few chapters on initial wavering, very quickly the three characters are like year we're gonna be a thing.
Plot wise, a whole lot happens in this book. I think it's definitely a turning point in the series. We find out who the Big Bad is and Hades is forced to make some policy decisions at the end of the book that will have huge ramifications on Olympus. This book is doing a lot of set up for the next few, and now that (i think) all the major characters are on the board, there will be a lot of pieces falling together for the next few books.
The relationship development was very cute. Charon-Eurydice has a very wholesome protector, friends who truly love each other vibe, Orpheus and Eurydice get the second-chance romance arc, and Orpheus handles all the groveling and repenting like a champ. I also really like Charon-Orpheus, they're very stalwart together and I like how respectful they are.
A really fun. book, I think this is probably one of my favorites in the series
Thank you SO much to Netgalley and Sourcebooks for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Katee Robert is back! I'm not gonna lie, the last few in this series fell kind of flat for me. The chemistry just wouldn't or couldn't match what I saw in Neon Gods but I don't know what inspires Robert. My current theory is that she just thrives in the lower city but whatever magic she needed she sure found.
Midnight Ruin picks up following the events of Cruel Seduction. Charon and Eurydice finally make their feelings known to each other after a year of friendship and start doing something about it. In steps Orpheus- who's only wish is to pay penance for his actions that lead to Eurydice being injured at the end of Neon Gods. Orpheus travels to the lower city at Orpheus' invitation to initiate some closure between him and Eurydice so that she and Charon can move forward. But in doing so it's discovered that Orpheus is more than happy to pay this penance on his knees. The puppy play aspect was not my cup of tea but it was still both heart warming and hot to see him totally give himself over as an apology. The dynamic between these three never lacked for chemistry and didn't take an huge leaps that didn't take the reader with them. In summary- I love them and am so pleased they got a happy for now.
The other aspect of this book that really brought it up to the 4th star. These are action/ romance and in past books I have seen Robert sacrifice one in the name of the other but this one was balanced SO well. Spice then action then spice and hey! more action. it was great.
I am so fully invested in how Olympus is going to come together to fight off the top secret big bad (revealed in this book) and am only annoyed that it's going to take 4 more books to see this resolved. Oddly enough I'm also glad I have that many more in the series to read!
Genre: contemporary/fantasy romance influenced by Greek mythology
Orpheus irrevocably broke his relationship with Eurydice when he fell ploy to the scheme of the last Zeus. Eurydice can’t forgive him. While she wants to move on physically with Charon, her best friend and Hades’s right-hand man, she isn’t emotionally beyond Orpheus. Charon desperately wants Eurydice to commit, and he’s willing to do anything to help her move on, even if it involves playing out kinks with Orpheus. Meanwhile, in the greater plot arc of Dark Olympus, assassins are still out to get the Thirteen, and Eurydice is trying to gain information from Ariadne about the “other side.”
I'm always curious to see where new chapters of Dark Olympus will lead us...and this took some surprising turns of kink. If the MCs enjoy it, I probably will too, no matter how surprising. In this case I felt like Midnight Ruin lacked some of the emotional connection I got from Wicked Beauty and Radiant Sin. Most of the emotional work between the three characters seems to have happened off-page, rather than on-page.
I felt that Midnight Ruin needed either a touch more or a touch less of political plot (or plot in general): either it needs to fall towards full-on erotica or the plot needs to really start progressing. You can read the first few books out of order, but starting with book 4, you really need to read these in order. I look forward to reading the next few in the series, but I’ll be honest, I’m most looking forward to Zeus and Hera in book 9!
A stunningly smutty read that titillates the senses. Eurydice and Charon are white hot and I could not stop myself from re reading some of their chapters. When Orpheus enters stage left what I thought could not get any better becomes a virtual feast of delights. This is no simple spicy retelling it is in a category all on its own.
WOW. Honestly, I didn't know how Katee Robert was going to make me give two fucks about Orpheus, after all the shit he pulled earlier in this series. I have been president of the haters club.
Well, after this, I can't say that I stan, but I DEFINITELY like him more, and I actually....have respect for him??
But, enough about Orpheus. Let's talk about our Zaddy, Charon!
I've loved him since Neon Gods, and every book Charon gets a little better!
Don't hate me, but if you ever watched OFMD, he gives me Hands vibes.
Eurydice...exists. I don't know, she's never been my favorite of the sisters, and she still isn't.
Overall, this book is a fantastic addition to the series. We are definitely in the thick of things, and there were some MAJOR plot reveals here.
This series is completely and utterly addicting, it’s not even funny. I’ve been so hooked on this series and these characters since Neon Gods and Katee Robert manages to sweep me off my feet with every new release in this series.
Every single book in this series has such a unique twist and it’s so incredibly entertaining going into each story not knowing what it’ll be like. There’s the signature Katee aspects of each story that make the books so identifiable to this author.
This story has it all: the continued messy politics of Olympus, unpredictable plots throughout the series, hot characters, even hotter steamy scenes… it’s just all really such a blast to read. You can just feel through the pages and the writing that Katee had, and has been having, the absolute best time writing these stories and curating these characters. The complexity of the plot in the entire series just keeps building and building and it’s so fun to read as these books come out. The tension between the characters in this book was *chef’s kiss* and I loveeeeeeed it!!!
I’m a reader who loves going into books blind, and I feel like every book in this series is so closely connected that I won’t talk about the plot in this review to allow anyone who wants to read this book the chance to go in knowing nothing of the plot other than the blurb. And on that note, while this is technically a standalone book, I would not recommend reading this book without reading the others in the series. There’s such a unique and complex storyline and to get the absolute best experience, you definitely need to (and should) read all of the books!
Overall, this is a great new addition to the Dark Olympus series and adds a whole new layer of complexity and intrigue to this series. I highly recommend this book and this series and absolutely can’t wait until the next installment!

MIDNIGHT RUIN is Katee Robert's sixth book in her Dark Olympus series. Because of the nature of the books, I thought this would be a series for which you don't have to read the previous books. While you can do so and pick up most of what is happening, the politics at play make it challenging.
As MIDNIGHT RUIN is only the second book in the series I've read, I did struggle with understanding what I missed. While MIDNIGHT RUIN is a retelling of the Eurydice/Orpheus myth, Ms. Robert makes enough changes for you to struggle if you are looking for similarities. Plus, the series builds on itself. This becomes not just an Eurydice and Orpheus retelling but also a continuation of everything that has occurred.
I find myself more interested in the characters' stories and Katee Robert's world of Olympus than in their sex lives. The idea that someone can become Zeus, Hera, or another of the top thirteen Greek gods still blows my mind. The dynamics are fascinating, and I want to learn all about it. To me, each bedroom scene is nothing but a distraction from the more fascinating parts of the story.
Not that the bedroom scenes are boring. In true Ms. Robert's fashion, they are detailed, intense, and HOT HOT HOT. MIDNIGHT RUIN includes another throuple, and I will admit to being a little jealous of Eurydice given the attention both men pay her. While I am not a fan of polyamory, Ms. Robert builds her relationships in a way that makes sense to me and makes me understand why someone would enter into a polyamorous relationship.
For those who have read the entirety of the Dark Olympus series so far, MIDNIGHT RUIN is exactly what you expect it to be. It has a great balance of spice and intrigue. Moreover, I loved the opportunity to explore the Underworld in greater detail and see Hades from a different perspective. This is a series I want to read in full next year because I know I missed key scenes. Plus, I am a sucker for any Greek mythology retelling, and Katee Robert's versions are so satisfying.
Never growing tired of "Dark Olympus"
Katee Robert's longest series has a big picture plot and several subplots that are just the appetizers! This one we're following Charon, Eurydice, and Orpheus in the lower city, and the political fallout that has occurred the last few books. You can usually read any of the "Dark Olympus" novels as standalones but always inter-connected. Her story is starting to blend from one book to the next, with cliff hangers that barely leave you holding on. I'm excited to see what happens in the next book!
I have enjoyed Katee Robert's previous works and this book is no different. I found myself engulfed in the characters and their stories -- their emotions, their ailments, their traumas, and their love -- from the very first page. The writing pulls the reader in with ease. Robert has a way of reimagining greek mythology in a way that allows you to fall into the stories you learned when you were younger while also making it feel completely brand new and enticing once again. Midnight Ruin finds Charon and Euridyce in the midst of River Styx's chaos. They know they can't, they shouldn't, try to make something work between them, yet here we are. And, so is Orpheus. Through the ups and downs, Robert has developed another amazing plot with lovely characters. Brava!

WE’RE BACK! Back again in the lower city under the hot af and watchful eyes of Hades and Persephone. 🥵
The book is actually about her sister but I loved having them back more towards the forefront of the story! The Lower City was also such a distinct part of this series and it felt good to come back to it. So much happens in this book, both with smut and plot and I LOVED it.
Also, WOW THAT PAINT SCENE.
Also also, is there magic in this series or not?? Still confused on that.
