This was such a good book! I really enjoyed the relationships between Eurydice, Orpheus and Charon. I thought the characters were well developed and the story kept my interest, I found it hard to put down.

Midnight Ruin continues the Olympus story with Eurydice, Orpheus, and Charon. We learn more about how the Lower City is dealing with the fallout of the assassination clause and the barrier failing. While the story starts out a bit slow, it does pick up and then takes off at a sprint before halting to a stop. I felt like just when the story was getting good and the action was picking it, I turned the page, and it was over!

I enjoyed seeing Hades and Persephone from a new perspective, as leaders of the Lower City. They were ruthless but caring. The relationship between Eurydice, Orpheus, and Charon took off out of nowhere. It starts off a bit unbelievable, but soon settles into something sweet and comfortable. I hope we get to see more of this couple, because I didn’t feel like their story got all it could have.

I look forward to the next installment to see how Olympus fares.

Thank you to the publisher, SourceBooks, for an arc via NetGalley.

3.5/5

Having been a fan of a Eurydice and Charon's progressing relationship in the last few Neon Gods, I'll admit I was a bit worried to see how Orpheus would make his appearance. I'll say I wasn't 100% satisfied but at least content with the way it worked out.

I'll admit the plot felt like it rushed through some parts and the plot definitely tried harder this time around but still left me wanting the pacing to be a bit cleaner. Orpheus' arrival was "okay" but the moment he showed up, it seemed like everyone was just supposed to forgive him without a whole lot of time to actually heal. Considering it was his decisions (or at least lack thereof) that put Eurydice in harm's way in the past books, I thought there should have been a lot more repentance/repercussions beyond a few months of hard times. This is especially true considering Eurydice's attack was a culmination of all that ways he had failed her before. We've spent a lot of time hearing how horrible Orpheus treated Eurydice only to get that all out of the way in a couple pages. I would have been perfectly happy to see just a monogamous storyline between Eurydice and Charon so there were times that Orpheus just felt out of place. I enjoyed his interactions between Charon but almost felt them to be more bromantic than romantic.

That being said, I loved learning more about Charon's inner workings and his relationship with Hades. I also loved seeing Eurydice come into her own as a member of the Lower City and as the newest Dimitriou sister to take a bite out of Olympus politics (Can't wait to see when we'll learn more about Callisto).

As for the danger approaching Olympus, I thought it was interesting and made some big strides this book. I'm excited to see what happens next and see what it'll be like outside of the Lower City. It also looks like we may be seeing more of Callisto or Ariadne in the book so I'm excited for that!

Thank you to Netgalley for the advanced read of Midnight Ruin and I'm excited to see what comes next!

3.5 stars

I still love this series, but I feel like I care less about the characters as it goes on. Eurydice, Charon, and Orpheus weren’t the worst pairing, but they also weren’t my favorite. I thought the instant connection between Charon and Orpheus was a little unbelievable, to the point where it almost felt like they were more focused on each other than on Eurydice.

I did enjoy the focus on the Lower City and seeing more of Hades and Persephone. The conflict also starts to heat up with attacks on the Lower City and the mysterious benefactor, so I’m looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

Thank you to SourceBooks Casablanca for the ARC!

OH YES. That's all I have to say. I love Katee Robert and I love the Dark Olympus series. I was screaming at my book during some scenes, and swooning during others. I cannot WAIT for everyone else to read this!!!

MFM
youngest daughter x male best friend x ex boyfriend

This story is about the once delicate Eurydice entangled with her best friend/soldier Charon while also reigniting the spark with her ex, now a party boy on the decline, Orpheus.

I really enjoyed the dynamic between the three!! I think the only way MFM stories can work is if both mmc are bisexual as well. Katee delivered on this one 🙌 This relationship developed super fast but I think this is because their relationships was built up through earlier books in the series.

Favorite scenes & quotes: When the ex boyfriend randomly looks into a parked car to discover the fmc & mmc getting dooooown. First thing he curiously says when they get out of the car “oh you didn’t use a condom.” 💀

“If he’s going to be between us, I’d rather him BE between us. It’s easier to deal with the man himself than the memory.”

“Crawl Orpheus. That’s what good dogs do.”

🌶️🌶️ While the book was spicy I didn’t think it was too high on the Katee spice scale. Aside from the poly relationship & passionate bedroom encounters smut level was quite low. Lots of the book focused on the upper/lower city dynamics and impending war.

friends-to-lovers
poly relationship
dom/sub dynamics
MM encounters

Reminder for my future self: Do not reed as spicy books as this one in public, especially on the airplane!
Katee's books made me realise I do not know as much about Greek mythology as I thought, basically I had to search every third character to have a better insight. It's been a while since I read the previous books, so I was genuinely happy to read a small recap at the beginning of this book, helped me get the grip of the story faster.
I did not read the plot in advance, so I was very much surprised when I realised the chapters are in 3 different characters POV. Then I started to get suspicious, will it be a reverse harem kind of story (only 2 males, but still)? I hardly ever blush while reading books even though I am surrounded by people, but this time I was blushing like crazy. The fact that I could literally feel the heat through the pages is an understatement, this book was so spicy, so hot and very much intense.
I was so curious about the female lead and the male leads love life and relationship, I had a hard time focusing on the political plot. Unfortunately it did not help either, that there were so many characters, constantly intriguing and plotting malicious things.
There was one thing I missed from the book though; the love triangle started too soon for me. I wanted to have some push and pull kind of relationship at first between the characters. I know the characters were not complete strangers and made appearance in the previous books, so overall there was no surprise in the way their relationships formed, still I could enjoy some more interaction before they got together and got physical. But it might be in the favour for some of the readers who do not enjoy slow burn books, it's just my personal preference.
Overall it was a very exciting and enjoyable book, definitely not a cute one, I would say it was rather a dark romance, but nothing unexpected. The writer knows how to keep us on the edge and I think everyone who were a fan of her previous books in the series would also love this one.

Okay. The struggle to review this fairly is super hard for me for some reason today. I have enjoyed the Dark Olympus series, and I enjoyed this book in that it was a fast read and easily consumable... BUT.

I felt that while there was SO MUCH HAPPENING nothing *happened*?

I appreciated the stay in the lower city, the vibes there, learning more about the magic system, the REVEALS, like all of that was good. But goodness, I didn't really like Hades or Persephone (I actually didn't super care what for the 1st book even so that might just be a personal bias). I am definitely NOT excited about the next book- I really don't care about those characters-but I'm invested enough to read it and the rest of this series. I just feel like it's getting less interesting rather than more interesting which is completely confounding to me.

So, it gets a 3 star- middle of the road because nothing blew me away.

Thanks Berkley and NetGalley for the ARC- I super appreciate it!

(Actual: 3.5⭐️, rounded up) Ahhhh— what a pleasant surprise! Despite some of my gripes with this series as a whole, I truly do enjoy it for how fun & dramatic it is 😅 And this next installment was great! I loved being back in the lower city again and seeing all the little cameos & loose ends come together. Learning more about Eurydice and watching her come into her own was wonderful, and I honestly really enjoyed the poly-romance between her, Charon, and Orpheus. Lastly, when I first started this series, I wasn’t sure just how big of a role the background plot/machinations would truly have (bc the author could always choose to go a different route or drop certain aspects), but I’m so happy I stuck with it. That cliffhanger though fr💥💥 I can’t wait for the next installment & am so excited to see what happens next!

I LOVED this book! After Neon Gods this is my favorite book in the series. Eurydice annoyed me a bit at the beginning but it got better quickly. We got some politics just not as much as in previous books, still very much enjoyed the story.
And the smut?? AMAZING! Who knew puppy play could be that hot??
Overall I loved the book and we got some more info about Olympus enemy, can't wait for the upcoming books!

i think as far as this series has gone, it seems to grow more and more disappointing as it goes on. i was so intrigued at the start of it, with the politics of it all, especially because i've always been so enamored with greek mythology and all the retellings that have stemmed from it.

neon gods i adored, electric idle was consumed with a slightly dulled interest but wicked beauty -- i thought -- was super interesting. and i know not to take these books too seriously, they're just porn with plot for funsies, but the initial deeper storyline had such promise.

anyway. was this good? no. did i have fun reading it? absolutely.

key point: the sex is always good but the plot is uninteresting.

Katee NEVER fails. Was this one my favorite? No. Was I still EATING IT UP? Yes. Very excited to see this series continue. Also, never thought I was gonna fall for Charon but here we are. lol

In this sixth book of the Dark Olympus series, we venture into the story of Eurydice Dimitriou - sister to Hera and Persephone, and daughter to Demeter.

Eurydice's heart was shattered by Orpheus, and she longs to get over him and forget her heartbreak. Charon Ariti, Hades's right-hand man might be the cure. It may have been the cure if Orpheus hadn't shown up to apologise. As the blurb says... Three hearts. Three futures. Countless ways to get it wrong.

Oh what a read! I loved all the POVs of the characters, with everyone having their own inner struggles and desires - I also enjoyed seeing Eurydice, Charon and Orpheus's relationship grow and develop throughout this book.

Midnight Ruin is a fast paced read, with a page turning plot and of course, well done romance/spice. This is a M/F/M relationship, something I've not read much of before, but I was pleasantly surprised! We do also see glimpses of Hades and Persephone to see what they're up to and how they're doing which was great.

Overall, I really enjoyed this and can't wait for the next installment! Thank you to Sourcebooks Casablanca and NetGalley for this copy. This review is voluntary.

I thoroughly enjoyed everything about this book. The thruple was so fun to read and I really enjoyed what world building was provided in the book.

I feel very strange saying this but I think the quantity of smut may have taken away from valuable plot development page time. Nonetheless I had an absolute blast reading the deranged level of horny scenes in this book. 10/10 smut no notes.

What a fantastic addition to the Dark Olympus series. Delivers the hotness we've come to expect from the series, but this time in a MFM triad. It continues to move along the overarching plot of the series, which keeps me invested in this series even though it is frustrating to have more questions as the end is reached.
Those who missed seeing Persephone and Hades get a little glimpse of how they're doing in this book.

I enjoyed this addition to the Dark Olympus lineup, as I'm sure I will all of them, but I do feel like it was the weakest. I feel like there is less and less plot as the series continues and it's turning into non traditional relationships and how risque they can get. This "plot" focused solely on the trio and them working out their relationship as a trio. I was more intrigued by the movements and political conquests of the other Olympians than their relationship, but got very little of it. It read like a filler and I'm ready for the next one because I feel like Ariadne is going to have more depth to her character. Overall was not my favorite in the series, but I will keep reading them!

Katee Robert's Dark Olympus series is still going strong and still scorching hot. There's just something about her writing that draws me in with the slower but intimate moments deep in the emotions and relationships of the characters and then has me on the edge of my seat when the plot is dropkicked down the street at lightning speed. It's addicting!

Neon Gods had me hoping for this story and here we are several books later! I was not expecting the triad of Charon/Eurydice/Orpheus though. I think they have quickly become my favorite triad of the series. I love the support they have for each other even when there is still so much that's unstable in their relationship. The hard conversations that were had and the characterization was great. Of course the spice is always top notch, but the cheek of some of the lines between the three had me laughing.

Great job! I'm excited for the next!

This was yet another fun and spicy read by Katee Robert. Her books are always a hit with patrons so we will be purchasing several copies for the collection. Thank you!

Thank you NetGalley for a free e-galley of this book in exchange for an honest review.

"Midnight Ruin" by Katee Robert is a scorching and modern retelling of the classic myths of Eurydice and Orpheus and Charon, set in the intriguing world of Dark Olympus. This novel offers a unique blend of romance, drama, and mythological elements, creating a captivating narrative that explores complex relationships and desires.

The story revolves around Eurydice Dimitriou, Charon Ariti, and Orpheus Makos. Eurydice, determined to step out of her powerful family's shadow, finds herself drawn to Charon, Hades's right-hand man known for his dedication to the lower city. Charon, in turn, is ready to claim something for himself, offering Eurydice the possibility of new experiences. Meanwhile, Orpheus, a fallen star of the upper city, seeks redemption and a chance to win back Eurydice, even if it means accepting her new relationship with Charon.

Robert's writing is rich and evocative, bringing a contemporary twist to these timeless myths. The characters are deeply fleshed out, each battling their own demons and desires. Eurydice's journey of self-discovery and empowerment is particularly compelling, as she navigates her complex feelings for both Charon and Orpheus.

The dynamic between the three main characters is electric and filled with tension. Robert skillfully explores themes of love, betrayal, and redemption, weaving them into the fabric of the story. The modern setting of Olympus adds an extra layer of intrigue and drama, blending the mythological with the contemporary in a seamless manner.

However, readers who prefer traditional romance or classic mythological retellings might find the novel's contemporary and erotic elements a bit unconventional. The novel's exploration of polyamory and complex relationships may also not appeal to all audiences.

Content warnings for themes of adult relationships, polyamory, and sexual content are appropriate. "Midnight Ruin" will appeal most to readers who enjoy new adult romance with a mythological twist and those interested in explorations of modern relationships set against a backdrop of fantasy.

In conclusion, "Midnight Ruin" by Katee Robert is a tantalizing and imaginative retelling that breathes new life into classic myths. Its blend of romance, drama, and mythology makes it a compelling read for fans of modern romance and mythological fiction.
