Thank you to Netgalley and the publishing company for this Advanced Readers Copy of The Summer She Went Missing by Chelsea Ichaso!
I love a good teen mystery and The Summer She Went Missing by Chelsea Ichaso fell right into that category. There's something about a few teenagers trying to solve a mystery that I love. In this case, Ichaso wrote the story of a missing girl from a year before and now her best friend and brother are trying to figure out what happen. Ichaso did not disappoint!
This story follows Paige as she returns to her favorite summer place that hasn't felt the same since her best friend went missing the summer before. Joining forces with her crush and brother to her missing best friend, Paige and Dylan go on a dangerous search to find out what happen to Audrey. So many secrets are revealed as I was constantly guessing who was the problem and what had happened. Just as I thought I knew what was going on, another piece of the puzzle would come to light and would wipe my guesses clean.
My only issue was that at times it seemed like the adults were not paying attention to the kids for them to be doing what they were doing and in a world where a child had already gone missing and was unsolved, I feel the parents would be a bit more controlling.
All the way to the very end I was clueless as to how this was going to play out. The climax of the story had my jaw dropping and kept me flipping the pages as fast as I could to see how it was all going to end. Ichaso delivered a nail-biter yet again. I will always be waiting to read Ichaso's next book!
This is a hard core YA mystery/thriller and I loved every minute of it. How the girls (Paige and Audrey) spend their summers was pretty much how I did all those years ago. Only my best friend never went missing.
Thats all I really want to say about this because I want people to go in blind. There were some cliches, such as Paige falling for her best friends brother, romance cut short etc etc BUT the mystery of where is she was well worth the read.
Like I said, go into this blind, as there are some moments that are a little too unbelievable, BUT it all comes together.
Thank you NetGalley for the arc
i did enjoy this more than the other book i've read by this author, dead girls can't tell secrets, but i still didn't love it. i think that i have moved past ya mysteries, and while it was compelling, it was ultimately unsatisfying and i didn't really care. i can't imagine i will be thinking about or remembering this book for much time at all.

Best friends Paige and Audrey are spending their summer in Clearwood Ridge. Audrey’s cute brother has finally noticed Paige, she is sure this summer will be great. Expect something is off with Audrey, she doesn’t seem like herself. One evening she doesn’t even come home. Paige comes across Audrey’s secret room, she finds out that maybe she didn’t even know Audrey at all.
I enjoyed the mystery of the missing girls. I also liked the characters and the interaction between Paige and Audrey’s brother, Dylan.
Thank you to Sourcebooks Fire and NetGalley for the e-arc.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the eARC.
This feels like the newest addition to teenage campy thrillers.
"The Summer She Went Missing" by Chelsea Ichaso is a gripping thriller that hooked me from the first page. The story follows a young girl's disappearance, unraveling a complex web of secrets that kept me guessing. Ichaso's writing pulls you into the emotions and struggles of the characters, making the mystery feel personal and intense. The twists were unexpected and left me rethinking everything I thought I knew. If you love a good mystery with deep, well-developed characters, this book is a must-read.
Ich weiß ehrlich gesagt nicht, wie ich dieses Buch bewerten soll, da ich es aufgrund relativ kurzer Ausleihdauer (ohne Verlängerung) nicht lesen konnte.
In many ways, this book is an example of what has become standard in a teen thriller. We have: a missing teen; friendships that largely exist in the summer; the power imbalance of the wealthy in a coastal town; a tenuous romance that is affected by grief; secrets that run deep in a community. It's not treading a lot of new ground or pushing boundaries, but sometimes that's okay. We don't always need a thriller to challenge us, just to entertain us. And this book is entertaining. It keeps a strong pace and balances revelations with emotional interest. Characters are strong enough to be engaging though not terribly deep. While some of the events push the bounds of beleivability, it doesn't go too far. This isn't a book bound to be a classic but it is entertaining.
"Last summer, they searched for Audrey Covington. This summer, they'll search for the truth."
The Summer She Went Missing is a page turner from beginning to end and has so many twist and turns. The author wrote this so well and had great characters in it. I look forward to reading more books from the author. Overall I enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good YA mystery or thriller. Thank you to NetGalley and SourceBooks Fire for this read in exchange of my honest review of The Summer She Went Missing.
As for Paige, she was ready to do anything to bring back her friend, Audrey Covington, who went missing one year back. People lost hope on Audrey's case and that is when Paige finds something that could lead to Audrey. She and Audrey's brother, Dylan decide to investigate and find the whereabouts of the girl who disappeared from their summer house. As they find evidence, they realise that Audrey might not be the sweet girl that they knew their entire life!
My interest in reading mysteries was what led me to this book. For the first few chapters, the book showed Paige's arrival in Audrey's house, her love for her best friend's brother and the teenage life they happily lived. Soon enough, Audrey distances herself from others and one day goes missing. What was so bizzare about this was that no one knew what Audrey was upto!
There was suspense throughout the story. The book not only maintained the suspense as to what happened to Audrey but also to another girl whose disappearance was connected to that of Audrey's. I liked the team made by Dylan and Paige and the extent to which they were ready to go to save Audrey.
The romantic moments between Paige and Dylan were the much needed break from Audrey's case and it was refreshing to read those moments. If you enjoyed A Good Girl's Guide to Murder series and loved the team made by Pippa and Ravi, then I highly recommend this book!
Again, I thought this was easy to follow, inviting new readers to the genre, and exciting current mystery lovers with a familiar, formulaic feel to the unraveling. Paige’s investigation has many red herrings, but I was satisfied with the ultimate reveal of both Audrey and another missing girl, Madison Blake (who went missing a few months before Audrey)’s whereabouts.
This book was very intriguing! The description immediately reminded me of my favorite show, Pretty Little Liars. I love the thriller elements of secrets, investigations, and missing girls. It truly gave me someone to route for and I was very invested in solving the mystery alongside the main character!
Paige's family has spent every summer that she can remember with her best friend Audrey's family's lake house. Even though Audrey's family is more wealthy that Paige's, it's never been a problem- their summers together have been spent on the river having adventures, and possibly flirting with Audrey's older brother Dylan. The summer before Paige's senior, she is secretly dating Dylan and everything is going perfectly until the night Audrey vanishes.
Now Audrey has been missing for a full year, and the police are out of leads, Dylan and Paige have drifted apart, and Audrey's parents are unraveling under their grief. Nothing about this summer feels comfortable or settled, so Paige and Dylan decide that they will do the police's job and find out what happened to Audrey themselves,
Love this fast-paced, enticing thriller, with plenty of twists to keep you turning the page! It was so fun and entertaining and yet had a strong emotional centre at the same time. The characters were funny and interesting and in particular, the main two had a great dynamic and chemistry that leapt off the page. Ichaso doesn't disappoint yet again!
First, I would like to thank NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this ARC.
This is a fast paced story that keeps you interested from the first lie. I enjoyed the alternating point of view's and the timelines. The twists were hard to predict and was extremely suspenseful. I will recommend this for students in my classroom.
I think the overall plot was good, but it was let down by the pace and the characters. I don't really feel I ever knew who Paige and Noah were, beyond their desire to find out what happened and a bit of a rushed relationship. I would say it doesn't really pick up until after 50% and it's only the fact I do want to find out what happened that kept me reading. The ending was satisfying, I'll give it that!

"Last summer, they searched for Audrey Covington. This summer, they'll search for the truth."
Paige has it made. Summers spent with her best friend, Audrey, who just happens to have a hot (and funny and smart and kind) older brother named Dylan, who just might be interested in something more this summer. But then Audrey disappears. And Paige and Dylan HAVE to find out the truth of what happened and where Audrey went.
This was a fun, fast summer read and I really enjoyed it. Summer romance meets thriller. I liked the characters and the relationships and would absolutely read whatever Chelsea Ichaso comes up with next.
I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I feel like it had been a while since I've had a good YA thriller, and I was pleasantly surprised by this book. I'll be honest, I didn't know much about the book when I requested it on Netgalley, but I was quite curious once I read the summary.
I struggled a bit with Part One, which takes place the summer Audrey disappears, and I think it was because it took a bit of time to really see to get into the mystery of Audrey's disappearance. Part one does spend a good chunk of the time on Paige and Dylan's relationship, which wasn't what I was looking for at first, but once part 2 started, I was hooked.
The Summer She Went Missing is the kind of book that I find harder to talk about, because I don't want to spoil anything. Once Paige and Dylan strart looking into the disappearance of Audrey, that's where the story got interesting for me, but also where the twists start happening, and I don't want to ruin them for anyone.
Overall, it was a solid read, and it was a really enjoyable book. If you are looking for a YA thriller, I think it is definitely worth checking out. I know I will go and probably rad some of Chelsea Ichaso's other books.
Last summer, Paige's best friend Audrey went missing. This summer, Paige and Audrey's brother/Paige's love interest, Dylan, work together to investigate what happened to Audrey and try to bring her back alive.
I thought overall this was a good YA mystery/thriller! I do think the first half was a little more fast paced than the second half. I also think the whodunit was a smidge out of nowhere (at least half of it). Besides that, it was still decently fast paced and intriguing!
