I have found that I really enjoy YA stories, and this one was very immersive and gripping. Due to work constraints, I had to listen to this over 2 days. I found myself thinking about this story while I couldn't listen to it, wondering what happened to Audrey. I was so desperate to piece together the puzzle.
I got to the middle of the story and just knew I had figured it out. Boy was I wrong. The twists in this one were so good and unexpected. I also enjoyed following Paige and Dylan and the varying dynamics of their relationship.
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Fire for this ARC. All thoughts are my own.
Paige spends every summer in Clearwater Ridge with her best friend, Audrey. Her family, and her best friend’s family spend every summer together in their family vacation home. Paige is excited for this summer because a blossoming romance is starting with Audrey’s brother. Paige has known Audrey’s brother, Dylan, for years and things are finally happening. She thinks this summer is going to be the best one yet! But things take a weird turn when Audrey becomes secretive and pushes Paige away. Then the worst thing imaginable happens, Audrey disappears. A year later, Paige is back at the summer house with her whole family, and Audrey’s family. They all feel the pain of Audrey still missing. Paige and Dylan, now broken up, need to find a way to work together and try ti piece together the mystery of Audrey’s disappearance. Can they trust anyone in this small vacation town?
What I enjoyed:
- i have read previous books by this author and enjoyed them all! This one was also a delightful and twisty read. I love the authors writing style and always feel like I get sucked into the world they build.
- This one had me questioning what in the world was going on up until the very end. I loved the twists! I did not see any of what happened coming.
- The dash of romance! I loved how it wasn’t the main focus. But it added a nice element to the story!
- Paige’s love for her best friend and determination to know what happened
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! This will be a fun summer beach read that can be finished in one sitting. I look forward to more books by this author in the future! 4 stars out of 5! Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Great book which had me on my toes from beginning to end -
Loved the dynamic between Paige and Dylan, such an engaging mystery.
Brilliant!
New author to me. I really found this book as fantastic read. Very interesting and in part some twist and turns to make it more incredible.
Great job.
Loved it!
Soo good!! I love YA thrillers. I fell in love with the main characters. The plot was great and the author went through with it. I need more by the author!
I had no idea where this was going and loved how twisty it is. Although I think it’s a little longer than it should’ve been, it’s one of the rare YA books that gets pretty dark with its subject matter. I’d recommend it to anyone who liked Courtney Summers’ SADIE -- I liked that one more, but think this is comparable in vibes, although it lacks any sort of podcast element to the story.
It’d make an excellent limited series comparable to the first season of Cruel Summer.
This was so good for a fast paced, easy summer thriller marketed for a younger audience.
I rated it based on the audience and how I feel they will perceive it. For the newer thriller readers this is gonna be a hit as it reads very well and it has mature themes without being too graphic.
I enjoyed the story and how fast paced it was, I flew through it. It wad predictable for someone like me who has a long history of reading but like I said newer readers will be surprised at some of the twists this one takes.
Thank you to the publisher for an advanced copy!
Content Warning: missing girl
This is a mystery about a girl that goes missing and her case goes cold but her brother, Dylan and her best friend, Paige decide to do their own investigation and find out what happened to Audrey. They realize there are a few cases that may tie into Audrey’s disappearance so they follow the clues.
There is a twist in the end that I did enjoy but I felt like most of the book didn’t do anything for me until that part. I didn’t really connect to the characters but I thought it was cool that Paige and Dylan teamed up together since they’ve known each other for so long. Overall, this was just an okay book for me.
My Thoughts:
Mystery lovers will enjoy this one, but it didn’t do much for me.

I got approved for this ARC through #netgalley and am writing my own honest review!
🤩 this is such an thrilling read! A girl goes missing one summer and then next summer another girl goes missing. So the main character goes on a mission to try and find her best friend. It’s definitely YA but I felt it was thrilling. The main characters are also rich and the story is set around country club and vacation homes! It took a bit to get into as the details in the beginning over loaded me but then I realized the importance of it all later. I definitely was confused as to if the girls were alive or dead and who the bad characters were going to be. Love a plot twist with a little young love romance too. Fast paced and great for early high school readers too!

The Summer She Went Missing is a YA mystery/thriller that follows a teen whose best friend is missing. She enlists the help of the girls brother (also her ex) in hopes of finding her. Paige and Audrey spend every summer together with their families. One night Audrey never comes home and her case goes cold. Paige and Dylan set out to find her the following summer and they uncover many secrets.
I enjoyed this book! It was a fast-paced thriller/mystery that was a page turner. I liked the characters, they did seem like teenagers in how they acted and thought. I really liked the summer vibes and atmosphere in here. I liked how the mystery unfolded and how everything wrapped up in the end. The mystery kept me hooked and interested the whole time. I also think the cover is super cute! If you're looking for a YA mystery/thriller, I would recommend this one!
I don't think the romance was really necessary. I don't think it really added too much to the story. I think the relationship was cute but I would have rather just focused on the mystery of it. Maybe since it is teens, other teen reader will enjoy the romance part of it but it just wasn't for me.
Thanks so much to netgalley and Sourcebooks Fire for the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review!
The Summer She Went Missing had great characters and an engaging plot. I will tell my students to read this book.
"The Summer She Went Missing" by Chelsea Isacho is a thrilling page-turner that seamlessly blends the suspenseful elements of "A Good Girl's Guide to Murder" with the emotional depth reminiscent of "The Summer She Turned Pretty." The fast-paced narrative follows protagonist Paige as she joins forces with Audrey's brother, embarking on a relentless quest to unravel the mystery behind Audrey's disappearance. One of the commendable aspects of the novel is its incorporation of real-life issues, adding a layer of complexity to the storyline and allowing readers to connect with the characters on a deeper level.
The author skillfully navigates the intricate web of secrets and lies, keeping readers on the edge of their seats with unexpected twists and turns. The chemistry between Paige and Audrey's brother adds a compelling dynamic to the story, enhancing both the mystery and the emotional stakes. The inclusion of real-life issues, such as societal pressures and personal struggles, adds authenticity to the narrative, making it a relevant and engaging read.
However, one drawback that slightly hinders the novel's originality is its formatting, which bears a resemblance to other popular authors in the genre. While the story itself is captivating, the familiarity in formatting and storylines may leave some readers craving a more distinctive style. Despite this minor setback, "The Summer She Went Missing" stands out as a gripping mystery with a heart, making it a must-read for fans of suspenseful tales interwoven with real-life challenges.
Thanks so much to NetGalley and the publishers for this ARC! I REALLY enjoyed this book. I could barely put it down! The characters had me interested right away and then the story itself quickly gripped me. If you’re a fan of Karen McManus you’ll LOVE this book!
The Summer She Went Missing is a captivating YA thriller. It was very addictive and kept me intrigued. It was definitely a fun ride.
There were many twists and turns throughout the book. Although many twists were highly predictable it still kept me intrigued until the finale. The characters were lacking development, they lacked a certain depth to make them more relatable.
The plot was highly intriguing, but the execution in some parts fell flat for me. The ending was a little too much in my opinion. It was still an enjoyable YA thriller.
🎧 The narration by Amy McFadden was really good, I felt she fit the role of a teen perfectly. She had the right tones and intonations. She truly kept me interested.

I liked this one but it didn't grab me the way other books of this genre have. I did like the Paige and Dylan relationship but certain storyline elements didn't always work for me.
Every year the Redmonds spend their summer vacation with their best friends, the Covingtons. Paige Redmond and Audrey Covington are inseparable in the summer, until Paige begins dating Dylan Covington (Audrey's older brother). Things between Paige and Audrey start to shift, is this because of the new relationship or something else? When Audrey goes missing Dylan and Paige blame themselves and then do everything they can to find Audrey. If you like thrillers and watching Dateline you will like The Summer She Went Missing.
Thank you to NetGalley for this ARC.
The Summer She Went Missing blew me away. This fast paced thriller does not feel like a YA book. It’s incredibly dark and full of disturbing imagery. The story follows Paige, whose family spends every summer visiting with long time friends, the Covingtons. Their carefree days change when the daughter Audrey Covington starts behaving strangely and eventually goes missing. Paige and Audrey’s brother spend the next summer trying to find Audrey.
This tense mystery is also a very astute picture of privilege and how it affects people’s position in society.
4 Stars
While I didn’t live laugh love this one, I liked it a lot. My favourite niche book genre of all time is Y.A. mystery/thriller with a romance side plot and it has been a while since I have read a good one of those and this one hit the spot. I definitely am planning on checking out some more of this author's books!
Thank you Netgalley for the advance reader and audiobook copy of The Summer She Went Missing by Chelsea Ichaso in exchange for an honest review. I started this book and at first I thought it was a teen book. I kept listening and before I knew it I was hooked. There was a lot of good mystery and suspense. I recommend this book.
thanks to NetGalley for the eARC

summary: our leading lady Paige’s best friend went missing last summer; now, she and her best friend’s brother have to solve the mystery (and fall in love I guess?? and find out there’s other cases tied up with her friend’s????)
thoughts: very very very boring!! there were several chapters around 80-90% of the way through where things picked up, but besides that it was super slow with undistinct characters. the mystery was very “first we talk to this person and then we talk to that person and then we put it all together” but not in an engaging way. again, a few twists at the end were nice but I feel like the author came up with those first and didn’t know how to actually get there with the plot and non-yawn-inducing characters. five solid chapters do not an entire novel redeem!! anyway it makes me want to reread A Good Girl's Guide to Murder because it's, like, actually good. take notes, Chelsea Ichaso!!!
