This is Daniel's story and in my opinion the best in this series.
I finished this book in one evening. I didn't want to put it down until I found out about the outcome for Daniel.
I enjoyed every minute of this story.
I thought Sir Michael made this particular story interesting just by the way he acted. It was the way he acted towards Daniel. And that's why I didn't like him. I felt that he had something to hide.
I loved in getting to know Daniel's mom. She's the coolest character.
I wanted to share this quote because it's so very true especially if you put God in the middle of our daily lives like this special woman did.
“Whatever happens, we know it will be God’s will and that He will take care of our future. And Lady Juliette’s too.” She leaned back, her face grave. “Yes, I know about that. There are many secrets a woman can keep, but being in love is not one of them. She glows at the mere mention of your name.
Words of wisdom from an awesome character that I've come to admire because of the hard choices that she's had to make. I'm sure some wasn't easy.
Vetsch has added an increase mystery into the mix and honestly this is was made me keep turning the pages. I wanted to see how things turned out for a certain young man. I kept rooting for him.
Daniel and Juliette will not let you put their story down until you have heard what they had to say. I love books that do that. This book will definitely have you spellbound for the duration of the day.
5 stars for a well written story. I highly recommend.
My thanks for a copy of this book. I was NOT required to write a positive review. All opinions expressed are my own.

I loved reading 'Children of the Shadows'. I did not know that it was part of a series. I learned there must have been a prequel when I started reading the book. However, I did not feel I missed much, as Vetsch summarised past plot points.

Daniel and Juliette's romance is a slow burn for me, with more focus on the intrigue and mystery. That did not negatively influence my reading. I will welcome more books from Vetsch!

I did not read the first two books in the series and this might have been a big disadvantage for me. I felt like there were so many people and I couldn't keep all of the characters straight. It seemed like so much of the beginning of the story had to do with Daniels inheritance as opposed to the missing children which was disappointing to me.

I did enjoy the story more once we were in the midst of the disappearances and the other nefarious activities. The story became much more interesting to me then. I really enjoyed the characters of uncle Bertie, Marcus, Charlotte and Juliette.

Thanks so much to netgalley and the publisher for the arc. The opinions are my own.

I had to read this book in 2 days, it riveted my attention! You will enjoy reading about Daniel and Juliette, a young couple whose future lies in the hands of a decision that will affect their future and that of their friends.
Daniel works as a private investigator, solving London's crimes of murder, larceny and kidnapping.
As he works on a murder case, he does not realize that it will endanger his life, Juliettes and the lives of innocent street children!
Mr. Cadogan, who once saved Daniel's life, informs him that street children are being kidnapped at random, and that he needs to find out why. Daniel and his friends start investigating and find the clues lead to a murderer who was a legend

Another fantastic book in the Thorndike & Swann series! I’ve been eagerly anticipating Children of the Shadows ever since reading Millstone of Doubt. It’s a forbidden romance, Bow Street Runner, Regency mystery with a touch of faith that kept me glued to my Kindle. If you haven’t read the previous books in the series, you may want to stop reading to avoid spoilers.

Detective Daniel Swann is still reeling after discovering who his father & benefactor are. He now must prove he’s the rightful heir to receive his inheritance. His new identity gives him hope that he might be able to court Lady Juliette Thorndike whom he’s fallen in love with & was previously out of reach.

Juliette has gotten used to having her parents around & now they’re leaving again. While they’re away on a secret mission, they want her to take time to decide if she wants to continue training to be a spy for the crown. She’s also wrestling with telling them about her feelings for Daniel. Will they give them their blessing?

On top of all these struggles is a new mystery to solve. Several street children have disappeared along with two murders.
While Daniel’s superiors don’t think the children’s disappearance is worth investigating, Daniel does. He enlists the help of Juliette & his friends to solve the mystery.

It’s another thrilling adventure with plenty of twists & turns along the way. Daniel’s inheritance is so precarious. He & Juliette have to keep their distance so as not to prejudice the court in any way or threaten her reputation. It’s a careful tightrope they walk as they team up to investigate while trying to keep their relationship secret. Of course charming Uncle Bertie is there to help out & offer advice as well as Marcus Haverly.

The romance was so good! I was on tenterhooks wondering if they’d ever get their happily ever after. The slow burn mystery was intriguing & kept me guessing. Daniel, Juliette, & all the side characters are so endearing, I’m hoping the series will continue.

Highly recommend to Regency romance & mystery fans! Definitely a must read! I received an advanced complimentary copy from the author & publisher. All opinions are my own & voluntarily provided.

Loved this book (unsurprisingly, I love all things Erica write. Haha!).
I’m so grateful for an advance reader copy!

Oh, how I love Daniel and Juliette! This 3rd installment had an engaging mystery, sweet romance, and non-stop action. Highly recommend to all of my regency reading friends.
Bonus points: Erica always uses fun words in her writing.

If you haven’t read Erica’s books yet, but like watching Miss Scarlet and the Duke or reading books like Sarah M. Eden’s Dread Penny Society series or Michelle Griep’s Blackfriars Lane series, you’ll likely enjoy this series as well. ❤️

Missing Children. Rightful heir to a name. Emotions running wild. These are some of the events that will happen when readers approach and dive into Children of the Shadows by Erica Vetsch. I enjoy the tame mystery element of the Regency era mystery. Nothing over the top, but enough of a head scratcher that readers will keep flipping through the pages to find out what is happening to the children. I love how seamless the story flows. Once I dove into the lives of Daniel and Juliette, it was like returning to friends that readers have not seen for a while. It was nice to play catch up and feel the hurt and love just alongside them. The setting is nicely handled and developed in my imagination as the characters roam through London from the wealthy to the poor side of town. Readers should definitely read the first two books in the series to help set up some of the backstory for Daniel. Not that this story cannot be read as a stand alone novel, but the first two stories give more information on what happens in this story. Vetsch does a wonderful job at crafting a couple of threads that has woven through all three stories and delivered them nicely to the readers like she promised. Overall, Children of the Shadows by Erica Vetsch is definitely a book that I want to own in my personal library and would recommend this story to young mystery lovers.

I received a complimentary copy of Children of the Shadows by Erica Vetsch from Kregel Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.

Children of the Shadows is the third and final book in the Thorndike & Swann Regency Mysteries series. I had not personally read the previous books and I found I was able to understand and enjoy the story as a standalone.

To be honest, Regency books are really hit and miss for me and as such not ones that I reach for often. This one, however, drew me in pretty quickly! It had a really great blend of romance and a great mystery. Dealing with children going missing, it certainly wasn't the most lighthearted of reads, but it was beautifully written and kept me invested from start to finish. There was a lot going on in the story--- the missing children, a question of inheritance and of course, the romance... but everything was balanced really well and didn't leave me feeling overwhelmed or confused. If you enjoy a good Regency mystery, this is one not to be missed!

**I received a complimentary copy for consideration. All opinions are my own.

5 star review for this conclusion of the series. I am on the launch team for this book, and am so glad too. Daniel & Lady Juliette don't half get into some mischief!!! It was lovely to have Daniel's mother more involved in this story. I think this series has it all, intrigue, Regency Romance, sleuthing!!! some humorous moments!. I felt there was plenty of plot twists and turns in this book to keep it interesting. I love Regency period, I love the descriptions of the balls and ballroom etc. I felt that I was there on some occasions, If you are a fan of Regency Romance and intrigue, you will not be disappointed. I'm sad now though that this series has come to an end. I think I will look up more of this author's books. Thank you netgalley for providing me with an ebook. The review is in my own words.
