A seriously fun read. I loved the breadth of topics and could not wait to see what the next one would be about. From twilight to a modern Shakespeare retelling, Shaffer's sense of humour carries you through every page.

I thank the Netgalley and the publisher for a copy of this book! The opinions in this review are entirely my own.

Alright, I'm going to admit it! The people in the waiting room where I read the book were probably wondering what I was reading because there were some pages where I couldn't suppress a laugh. This book was hilariously funny. If you don't like bad language (that's why I wanted to give it only 2 or 3 stars), this book is not for you. You will enjoy this book if you like sarcasm (that's why I gave it 4 stars) and can ignore the bad language.

I really wanted to get to this one, as it seemed interesting. The downfall was that I requested so many ARCs that I could not get to all of them before the book was archived. If I can find this somewhere for a reasonable price, I will try to get it!

This is the type of poetry I want. making fun of everything and all the seriousness in the world and totally self aware. I finished this in less than a hour and I found myself laughing at each little short poem.

I do believe that this may have been written by a child. Was it written as a joke? Not as in satire or comedy, but an actual joke? Is the writer trolling us? That's all I can think after reading this.

This book of poems would make a good gag gift. A bit hit or miss, but some of the poems were clever and made me chuckle, including poems about Little Debbie cakes, Chuck E. Cheese (dirty!), Backstreet Boys, and Philip Roth.

Oh gosh, I love me a book of poems and I'm so thankful to Andrew Shaffer, Netgalley, and the 8th Circle for granting me access to this enlightening, yet inquisitorial collection of prose that had me pining for me. This baby hit shelves on September 5, 2023, and I'm excited to see what else is to come for this author.

I know that Andrew Shaffer is 100% making fun of Instagram poetry and the stuff that is being churned out every five seconds from publishing houses like Andrews McMeel (which I do read), but some of this "comedy" felt a lot like the corny "jokes" I hear from my high school students all day long. It was giving- "I am an edgy and funny and cool because I know this is ridiculous," but it was all just cringe most of the time. While I appreciate that being the point, that doesn't mean I enjoyed reading it.

Not Today, Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) by Andrew Shaffer is a hilarious collection of poems in a variety of forms. The topics range from writing and poetry to life's ambitions and self-expression to swearing and comical everyday observations. While not all may make readers laugh out loud, Shaffer's poems will have readers smiling and, occasionally, thinking more deeply than one would expect for such a goofy, light-hearted, and satirical volume.

Poking fun at writing, poetry, and life itself, this volume is perfect for anyone who needs a good chuckle and chortle.

Super cute cover sucked me in. I NEEDED this!
Snarktastic poems full of pop culture nerdiness.
Just a few misses, but most were pretty darn awesome.

Cute little poetry collection. Fun satire of popular Instagram poetry but with a darker edge. It made me laugh a few times and finished in maybe 20 minutes. Something I'd borrow but honestly would not purchase for more than a few dollars.

This book was a delight! I really enjoy every piece of it, easy to read and so on point. Especially love the creative form of writing, it really enhanced the reading and also love the little drawings in between the poems. Would recommend!

I enjoyed this book. I was not sure what I had expected based on the cover, but I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed it a lot.

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own opinions.

I enjoyed the Goth Joke Book, but I love this poetry book. I must investigate Andre Shaffer's other titles, because they will be very useful to have around during my seasonal depression.

I loved this little book of poetry!

This is on the side of not taking itself too seriously, poetry - memes territory.

I loved the cover illustration which drew me to it which was probably the exact purpose to be honest… I’ve been marketed to.
This is like reading poetry which could equally be satirical social commentary that would be Twitter (sorry ‘X’) posts or memes with a kind of depressing twist!

I did find myself laughing out loud at points, it does have some basis of meaning but it’s not going to have you re-evaluating your life and finding deep meaning.

I enjoyed this, my favourites were:
‘I’m not crying, you’re crying’
‘Happiness is just around the corner’
And I’ve got to say, not being from the US, reading ‘my 21st birthday’ and finding out about ‘Charles Entertainment Cheese’ nearly had me spit out my coffee.

‘In the twilight’ also a highlight.
This is my sense of humour and I enjoyed it in a format that I don’t access that much - I think it does make poetry more accessible rather than it being something that is difficult to decipher and understand at times.
I’m all for poor drawings as well, mediocrity is not celebrated enough!

Recommended!
I received an arc of this book and this is my honest review.

I was seduced by the cover, but reading this collection reminded of talking to people who equate loudness with humor. Clearly it hit other people differently but this wasn’t for me at all. I’ll leave it at that.

I found this book at the perfect time - I could use some more smiles in my life. This collection brings a lot of laughter, and you'll find it hard not to smile as you read it. Shaffer brings unique and interesting poems, filled with humor and satire. The best part, because it's a poem collection, you can read one or two any time you have a moment, and pick it back up again later, no issues. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys poetry and satire.

I absolutely enjoyed every second of this comedic parody of a collection. It had me laughing with every turn of the page. I never expected what each one would bring, it was very unpredictable but in the best of ways! Now I need to go back and see everything written by him immediately!

Not Today Satan (maybe tomorrow) title captures the dark humor invoked throughout this collection of poetry. This is a very relatable read that did have me chuckling quite often.
The drawings are a perfect touch of sarcasm at poetry that can take itself too seriously. A very cute read.
