Do you want a good humour book to laugh out loud before a dentist appointment? Or perhaps something to bring you to tears for not being able to laugh in public out of fear for public embarrassment? Maybe a book to read twice in the same day because you just HAD to?

Not Today Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) is the most perfect mix of humour and poetry I have ever read. From sponsored poems to Twilight and even mermaids?, Andrew Shaffer is, by far, a master at his art. And if the poems don't call your attention, maybe the drawings will!

Honestly, it is such an easy read and a perfect gift for your loved ones, or maybe just sharing one of the poems in a school presentation, I am sure your teacher will LOVE it and you will get that grade you so desperately need from reading books in class instead of reading Shakespeare.

READ. IT. NOW. (please).

I requested this based on the cover art and title, which after reading, doesn't really match what's written within.

It was a quick read. You can get through the entire book in 30 minutes or less. I knew going in that this was a book of "funny" poems, but it was not at all what I was expecting. Maybe Im not within the target audience for this. Unfortunately, I did not enjoy it at all. I didn't think they were particularly funny or clever. To me, they just gave off prepubescent boy and tried to write funny poems after watching a few episodes of MAD TV and thinking he's now a comedian.

Thanks to netgalley for sharing a digital copy for me to read and review, as always, opinions are my own.

This was such a fun read!

The first time I'd read anything by this poet but I loved it and found myself telling friends to read.

Thank you for the advanced reader copy.

This poetry collection had me laughing out loud. I enjoyed almost every poem. I was looking for something to read to relax and take my mind off of things, and this was a perfect fit. The kind of humor might not be for everyone but I enjoyed it.

This is a funny little collection of poetry that doesn't take itself seriously. It's a spoof on the Amanda Lovelace style poetry, tackling such important topics as reviews, love, writing, cats, emotions, and more. I think My favorite poem is Red Flag, where there is a door to Kyle's home at the bottom of someone's heart. There are also cute line drawings for most of the poems. I also really like the adorable kittens on the cover.

This book of poems is an obvious cheeky riff at the usual poems we usually see in the wild, the ones about new beginnings and advice and seeing the beauty in everyday life. A quick, light-hearted, irreverent buffet of fun.

The cover looks like a Lisa Frank acid trip. That was enough for me to click the “Read Now” button on NetGalley.

I zipped through this poetry collection while eating toast with my cat, which seemed appropriate given the cover. I quietly lol’d quite a bit, so overall it was enjoyable. I think my favorite was the #sponsoredpoem for the Backstreet Boys. Shit got real really quick.

Thanks to publisher and NetGalley for a free review copy. Two cat’s paws up.

This humorous collection of tongue-in-cheek poetry is certain to delight. Andrew Shaffer delivers again with a fun, irreverent, and insightful collection of short poems. This is the kind of poetry that will even make you laugh out loud and share with a friend. A true antidote to cringey Instagram poetry.

Advanced Copy review via NetGalley: thank you!

Loved this book. If Ellen Hopkins switched to being a comedian this is the vibe. The cover art is perfect and got me interested right away.

I laughed at so many of the poems and related to just as many. Some fell a bit flat for me but I’m sure they would resonate well with other audiences. Some I even wanted to share with my friends immediately.

Wish this book was longer it took me only about 20 minutes to read all 107 pages. Would gladly read a longer poetry book by this author. The illustrations were perfect and I enjoyed them much more than other authors style.

Would be happy to purchase this book when it comes out.

This was so lighthearted and funny I couldn’t stop laughing! It’s refreshing to see poetry that can be lighthearted and humorous and not necessarily deep. It was so enjoyable and I really did enjoy each poem. A variety of forms and structures and topics and themes creates for a memorable anthology that I would recommended to people who do and people who don’t enjoy poetry. They were relevant and enjoyable and in some cases entirely relatable to the random thoughts we have as individuals.

A semi-amusing very short read.

I know this poem book is a joke, but some actually made me smirk.
Some were just not good.
I like that he likes cats. He touches base on common pop culture references. If you know you know.

I wouldn't call the humor deadpan, more silly/slapstick.

Thank you Netgalley for the few chuckles!

First off there is a star for the cover and title…love it.
This is quirky, witty and laugh out loud funny, would make a great stocking filler at Christmas time, cat people will adore even if they are not a fan of the writing as the cover is so cute but I challenge anyone not to have a wee giggles while reading this.

I was lucky enough to read this as a ARC from Netgalley. I was laughing throughout the entire book. Andrew did a great job at writing short little poems, that left me laughing. There was many that I went rushing to friends about, like hey listen to this great poem. I really recommend this to anyone wanting a light hearted funny poetry read. Before reading this I never realised poetry could also have a comedic tone, it was very refreshing

LOVED this book!! It had me laughing from the very beginning. I highly recommend this book and it really did make my day.

Positives: light read that will keep you laughing
Negatives: poems are about random everyday life so doesn’t follow one set theme

Not Today Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) is definitely what the premise said. Andrew Shaffer writes short funny poems. I laughed out loud while reading this collection. Also, the drawings were super fun too. Especially the cat ones.

That was actually really fun. I didn't really know what to expect, but I really liked Andrew Shaffer's sense of humour and I laughed almost every pages of this short poetry book. The drawings themselves were hilarious and extremely cute at the same time. I never thought I'd enjoy his way with words so much. Honestly, it was way too short, I wanted more. And still, I love Rupi Kaur and Instagram poetry.

I have never laughed so hard, or so loud, at poetry in my entire life. I planned on going through this collection slowly but I absolutely HAD to keep reading poem after poem because they were so good. This collection is certainly not for everyone, but if you have a dry sense of humor, you'll absolutely love it. I read a few out loud to my fiance and his exact words were, "What kind of unhinged poetry is this?!" Which is high praise in our household. If you are also unhinged, in a good way (or bad who cares), please do yourself a favor and pick this one up! I don't want to give any of the poems away, because they deserve a veil of mystery, but the topics range wildly. From observations of dates to article reviews, Shaffer provides it all. This collection of poems brightened my week and I hope it does the same for you!

Can we talk about this adorable cover art for a moment? Holy cow, that’s adorable. A kitten with eyelashes holding flowers in its paws while butterflies hover around its head in the bright purple and pink background…who wouldn’t stop and look at what’s behind that cover? Okay, moving on.

I like poetry. I like the highbrow stuff published in the Poetry Foundation magazine. I like the classics I read in my AP English courses in high school and various college courses. I like niche poetry by the likes of Axl Barnes and Wrath James White. I even like some of the poems about whiskey and self-love that this book pokes fun at. And I like poetry that doesn’t take itself too seriously. So naturally I enjoyed this book.

This was a fun book. It’s like reading memes and disappointing affirmations punctuated by silly little sketches of cats, flowers, and cowboys with wings. This will appeal to a subset with a specific sense of humor. When I started reading, I was marking nearly every poem to highlight in this review but quickly realized that I’d be sharing the entire book. So instead, I’ll say that my absolute favorites were the ones that poke fun at poetry in general. The Poets Strike is one of the longer ones in this book, namely because it delivers its critique of various styles of poetry by using each style in its own verse. I read the words and noted the style and laughed. I’m also a big fan of #sponsoredpoem and the rejection letter to ‘dear penthouse review’ series. On a personal note, this was just what I needed on an evening when everything was overwhelming. I got an hour of smiles out of this collection of poetry that ultimately doesn’t mean anything and sometimes you need that.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ for me. This collection of poetry is lighthearted, fun, and snarky af. I’ve already added several of his books to my tbr. If his poetry is any indication of his style of humor, I’m sure I’ll enjoy his novels. Shaffer has authored several parodies of famous titles, but you may recognize him as the author of the Obama Biden Mysteries.

Short, quick, and fun poems! I chuckled through the whole thing. He had me from the first poem of the book, then hit it out of the park when talking about serial killers and Backstreet Boys within the same poem .

“Listen to “Show Me the Meaning of Being Lonely,” what many consider their crowning achievement.
If that song doesn’t bring a tear to your eye, you’re as much of a monster as Ted Bundy.”

Thank you to NetGalley, Andrew Shaffer, and publishers for the opportunity to read this book!

I enjoyed this immensely. Andrew Shaffer writes short but sweet and oh-so funny poetry. I had several laugh-out-loud moments.
