It’s almost not fair how often and how hard I laughed reading this collection of poems not for the faint of heart. This is a quick read that left me wanting more of Shaffer’s humor and life observations!

This was so funny! I really enjoyed these poems and they gave a funny outlook on some serious thoughts.

Not Today, Satan is a hilarious poetry book that had me cackling all the way through. I wasn't sure really what to expect but this was brilliant and I really enjoyed it.

I don't normally pick up poetry but Not Today, Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) by Andrew Shaffer is an hilarious collection of beautifully written poems that made me laugh out loud not the best thing to do at 2 am so I absolutely apologise to my neighbours if I woke you up but might I recommend this book to you.
I have added the author's previous works to my seemly never-ending TBR but I cannot wait to see what he comes out with next.

This collection of poems is equally irrelevant, perverse and unhinged. It’s absolutely amazing. I cackled out loud several times, and smiled the entire way through. Thoroughly enjoyable if you’re looking for a bit of mindless wit!

The #sponsoredpoem(s) are chef’s kiss.

Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for this ARC, in exchange for my unbiased review.

This was so much fun to read. I found myself laughing out loud so many times.
I particularly liked the Ted Bundy/Backstreet Boys one.
Will definitely be checking more out from this author.
I received a copy via NetGalley and all opinions are my own.

I love a good book of weird poems, but this was by far one of the best I've read in a long time. I am going to read my Bernie Sanders mystery that I have at home and everything else by Andrew Shaffer that is available.

Thank you!

Based on the cover alone, I should have known this book would be hilarious. I was pleasantly surprised by how many laughs this brought, despite being so short. And the illustrations were fabulous.

I originally chose this book without reading the description. I really have to stop doing that, lol. Some of these poems were funny and some just didn’t make sense. The illustrations, which a book of poems probably doesn’t need, were ok but nothing to write home about. Overall not something I would purchase unless specifically as a gag gift.

Thank you to NetGalley for the eARC of Not Today, Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) by Andrew Shaffer.

This was a great book of poems for the modern day life. Some made me smile, some made me frown, others made me laugh, and all made me think.

Happiness is
just around
the corner - this was my favourite poem in the book.

NET GALLEY REVIEW | Not today, Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) by Andrew Shaffer

Have you ever wondered what Shel Silverstein would be like if he was a kinda-funny drunk millennial dude you met at a bar? Well, Andrew Shaffer might just fit that bill. I’ve not read any of his works prior to this NetGalley and for that I’m not super upset about. This book of poems was good for a chuckle here and there but more than a few were a little too off-putting for me. But that’s OK! To each thine own.
This is not a serious book of poetry - in fact I do believe the point of it was to poke so much fun at poetry that poetry bruises and doesn’t want to have a drink with this guy ever again. But what’s kind of great about that is the uniqueness of it, even the personally off-putting poems will probably illicit a chuckle out of a very specific subset of people. Just not me.
I have maybe 3 VERY GOOD friends I would recommend this to. I would not recommend it to a stranger without very clear content warnings.

(Gifted a copy on NetGalley in exchange for a review)

“Not Today, Satan (Maybe Tomorrow): Poems” by Andrew Shaffer is a humorous collection of poems poking fun at censorship, cats, writing and more.

The poetry, like all humor, relies on its audience’s reception. While I was lukewarm towards most of Shaffer’s jokes, his consistent tone and wit did win me over. The small illustrations also added to the style and tone of the book. “the poets strike” was the easy standout for me, playing on the very medium of poetry, though “liar” also got a real laugh from me. I can see this being a real treat to someone both versed in internet culture and writing. Also someone who owns a cat.

Now, I must be honest, I picked this book based on the cover alone! I know that is shocking to admit, but I did it, I judged a book by the cover!

And I am so glad I did!

I have not read a poetry collection since I was in High School, I think school always put me off poetry and being stuffy and boring but this book was the total opposite. It was hilarious!

There were so many moments where I laughed out loud and some of the poems hit a bit close to home, "you are not a mermaid", for example.

I also loved the little drawings that were scattered throughout the book, they were very sweet. One of my favourite overall parts of the book was the shape of the poems. The use of calligram's occasionally in some poems was fun, this along with the drawings helped break the poems up and made me fly through the book so quickly.

Overall, this was a fun and weird read and I am so glad to have picked it.

This poem collection was a very quick and easy read. There were some poems in here that I enjoyed, and some that I didn’t like as much. Some of the poems were a little boring and some didn’t really make sense. There wasn’t really one big theme for the whole collection, instead it was a mix of poems. I think I had high expectations for this book based on the title and the description. I still enjoyed some parts of the book.

Thanks to the publishers for sharing this one. I loved this collection as much as the previous one (Look Mom I'm a Poet and So's My Cat). It literally made me laugh out loud several times. My full review appears on Weekend Notes.

It's been a while since a book has made me laugh out loud but Shaffer's poems certainly did. Filled to the brim with Adult humor and pop culture, this poetry basically epitomizes my millennial humor and feelings. Some of the humor is slightly dark, like when Shaffer talks about Ted Bundy and Backstreet Boys in #sponseredpoem (Which is one of my favorites, all of them). Each poem is quick to read but make sense, plus the titles are pretty much *Chef's Kiss'. There is money in poetry, of course, the poetry has to actually be good (or just make you feel nostalgic).
