Do you think Ted Bundy is the Backstreet Boys of serial killers, not just the Nsync? If yes, then this one is for you.
You probably didn't think you'd hear the word splenectomy in a poetry book. And you also probably didn't imagine that someone would wax lyrical on the adventures of Smirnoff Vodka. And you also didn't think Andrew Shaffer would give the best writing advice.
Spoiler; don't.
Experience all that and more in this funny as fuck poetry collection by Andrew Shaffer, which is possibly better than Look Mom I'm a Poet (and So Is My Cat).

Not Today, Satan (Maybe Tomorrow) comes out on the 5th of September. For the measly price of $4.99 you can help reassure Andrew Shaffer's wife that there may be some money in poetry. Maybe not a lot because the book is also on Kindle Unlimited.
This compilation of poems by Andrew Shaffer is absolutely hysterical. My favorite has to be “Magic” but enjoyed all of them especially the sponsored ads. I kept finding myself pausing to read them out-loud to my husband as they had me laughing out loud. They were silly, fun and ridiculous!
Glad for the chance to read this collection but it's not my usual poetry fare. There were some very incisive poems and lots of great lines. The structure of the book - short poems, many with words like shapes and accompanying images - did feel like a send-up of the phenomenon of Instragram poets like Rupi Kaur, which was refreshing and fun. But it did sometimes feel like it taking aim at poetry itself which wasn't for me. A few of the poems made me laugh out loud, and a few I wished for more - more depth and exploration of the themes.
I cannot even tell you how excited I got seeing a new poetry book by Andrew Shaffer was coming out! I instantly needed to read and I’m glad I did! I loved it!
His last poetry book “Look Mom I’m A Poet (And So Is My Cat)” was one of my favorite reads of 2021 and this was just as great if not better. It’s both hilarious and a little sad at times but I really laughed and related to so much that I want to read it again already.
Really loved this one and you will too!
Thank you to NetGalley and 8th Circle Entertainment for letting me read this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Finished this in about 15ish minutes. It's hilarious front to back 😆 light and enjoyable, I love it. Picking up this book purely out of its gorgeous cover and the description, and not regretting the impulsivity at all~ highly recommended to lighten the mood 🥹🫶🏽
The vibrant 90s vibe of the color is what initially drew me into this poetry collection, but I stayed for the side busting laughter that was given to me inside the pages! It felt like to me that these poems were the kind of messages that my best friends and I send back and forth, somewhat unhinged, but hilarious nonetheless. the shape of my heart and the paris review series were my absolute favorites!
I rarely read poetry books but man oh man, Andrew Shaffer may have just changed that. This was a hilarious collection of letters and stories. Some of them(ok most of them) had me in actual tears.
“Underwear is just a face mask
for your butt.”
Come on 😂
The cute kitty, bright Lisa Frank-ish colors & the title are what ultimately drew me to this book. Even though I’m definitely not a poetry person, I really enjoyed this. “Only God Can Judge Me” & the poem about Bella choosing Edward were definitely some of my favorites. Charles Entertainment Cheese had me dying!! I’m always going to refer to Chuck E Cheese as that from now on.
This was a collection of funnies I had no idea I needed in my life. I devoured this book and went back and re-read it all in the same day. I had to call friends and read a few poems to them only for them to say it gave them the same joy and uplifted them as well.
I need a hard copy of this so that I can look at it whenever I'm having a bad day.
Hilarious poems (and letters) about, well, everything, relationships, poem writing, Little Debbie, and Satan. Many laugh aloud poems, many sacrilegious and scurrilous, some baffling, but all fun. I read one of the poems to my wife and she said, "That's supposed to be funny?" Well, the whole book is hilarious. Maybe I didn't read the poem with enough emotion to my wife or maybe she was too busy reading something else at the time. But, I enjoyed the book and that's what counts.
“Her mug said MALE TEARS
but she was the only one
I ever saw crying
Into it”
“Omygod, stop😂” is my reaction to most of these poems. I love them so much, even if it reads like scrolling through memes on Facebook or anti-advice chains on Reddit.
A fun read, I’m glad I found this book!
I don’t think I’ve ever laughed so hard reading a poetry book. This is a quick read, which would have been even quicker if I didn’t feel the need to read every poem out loud to my friends.
A few of my favorites were: In Twilight, Travel Advice, and A Few Words Of Advice.
This is undoubtedly a 5 star read that everyone needs to check out.
This was brilliant. I read it in a whole sitting, chuckling from start to finish.
In a time in which our feeds are clogged with word splattered poems that aim at (and tend to sorely miss profoundness,) Not Today Satan doesn't take itself seriously. It mimicks a modern poetry book and ironically turning it on its head with an entertaining mix of humour and observations. This is my kind of poetry and I would definitely recommend it if you would like an easy read and a laugh. Thank you to Netgalley and the writer for a copy.
Dang!
I wasn’t really expecting to just sit down and run through a poetry book tonight, but I got caught up in this one. It’s a good blend of humor and observations, and every few pages you get a doodle to accompany a poem.
This kind of poetry is right up my alley. If you’re looking for a quick read, some laughs, it’s a good’un!
I haven't laughed so hard for a.long time. This book is so funny, I could not stop laughing. So funny and in some cases so true. I would love to.get a print version of this book. That is how much I loved it. A must-read if your having a bad day!! You.would be LYBO. The cat cover was a cute touch!
I received a free copy of the book and is voluntarily writing a review
I don't typically like poetry but this book caught my attention and was really fun to read. Multiple times I had to stop reading to laugh and show it to my girlfriend next to me due to how funny it was.
I didn’t want it to stop! So funny! If you have a great sense of humor this is for you. I can’t wait to read more of his stuff. Thanks Netgalley!

Not sure if it was suppose to start with “if” or just “f”.
