Review: Make Your Move - Heather Garvin
I was lucky enough to receive this book as an ARC on NetGalley.
I can do that. I can pretend it didn’t happen. But when he’s standing this close to me, I can’t deny I want to kiss him again. Abbie Linley loves her small-town life. Leaving for college may be the next step for her friends, but she’s not ready to walk away from the horses. She’d happily keep her world the same, but everything around her seems to be changing. Starting with her gruff, new farrier. Carson Daniels’s only job is to shoe horses, but he gets more than he bargained for when he shows up at the Linley’s barn. The last thing he needs is to get distracted by the owner’s beautiful daughter—even if she’s the only good thing he can say about Florida. It would never work. She has a boyfriend. And he’s leaving. Between his dry sense of humor and her ever-growing realization that her boyfriend isn’t all he’s cracked up to be, Abbie and Carson can’t seem to stay away from each other. Abbie thought she had realistic expectations about love. Carson went and raised the bar on all of them. She would never ask him to stay for her. He won’t ask her to go with him. But they’ll make the most of the time they have left. It’s only one summer, but maybe that’s okay—maybe they can put it all behind them. Or maybe it will fuel a love they could never forget.
Small Town Romance
Forced Proximity
I really loved this book!!! It had me hooked from the begging and I couldn’t put it down!!! I really loved Abbie and Carson’s characters and their storyline. I loved that this was a small town romance troupe!
I definitely recommend this book!!

3.5 ⭐️'s! Cute, spicy cowboy romance following fresh out of high school FMC and bad boy MMC. Not much to say, as I don't really remember a ton about it.
To me, this book is very strictly meant to be read by people 20 below. That isn't to say this is a bad book, but it's not specifically marketed as YA, so I was a bit perplexed when I started reading it. Both MCs, specifically the FMC, are very immature and still very much in high school mode. I'm just not at that point in my life any more and it sometimes felt like being forced back into my 18 year old self and dealing with other horrible teenagers. BUT I do think this story would very much work for someone that age, as it's very heavily focused on feeling out of place after finishing school and sort of feeling "behind" other people your age. It's a cute summer romance with lots of equestrian themes and that real first love experience. Very much dislike to love in a way I think most people can relate to.
I received an advanced copy of the book and voluntarily read and reviewed it. All opinions are my own.
This is a sweet small town romance with a touch of spice. I think there was 2 spicy scenes if that’s not your thing. It’s a slow burn strangers to friends to lovers and I really enjoyed it as I’m not a fan of insta love. Abbie and Carson are both such lovable characters and their banter was fun. It was nice to see Abbie realise on her own that Seth wasn’t a great person. The pacing did slow a bit in places but overall it’s a fun easy read. As a horse girl I loved the horsey element and a farrier boyfriend would be the dream because horseshoes are expensive. The cover is also gorgeous.
I received a copy of the ebook via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review

As a lover of cowboy romances, I requested this book as soon as I saw it and I couldn't have been more excited to have a chance to read it!
Make Your Move was a sweet and steamy new adult romance that's super easy to read and even easier to adore. The YA/NA genre isn't always my go-to but I loved every minute of this book and absolutely devoured it within hours. The pacing was perfect and the writing was so easy to understand and I was sad for it to end.
Carson and Abbie are the sweetest couple! Between him protecting her and her helping him overcome a personal fear, they were the cutest friends to lovers and I hope to read more by Garvin in the future!
When Abbie decides to skip out on college and stay home with her single mother to help out with the horses, she finds more than what she bargained for with the new farrier.
Typical romance fare-simplistically sweet and not too much substance. The characters of Abbie and Carson were fine but I didn't feel like they were dynamic enough for me to understand their attraction to one another. More than anything, the attraction between them felt largely physical rather than romantic. I also am just not a huge fan of romance as a standalone genre so this just didn't really do much for me.
Make Your Move by Heather Garvin
Perfect new adult romance for those who love horses, a solid romance, and happy ending.
What I liked:
* Abbie: strong, caring, loves her horse Sully, works hard, has a loving mother and a father who was there for her at the beginning of her riding career, beginning to question her relationship with Seth – with good reason, a good friend
* Carson: farrier, son of a farrier, in town to help his father out, quiet, strong, plans to return to Tennessee, protective, interested in Abbie but knows he is leaving, a good person, communicates openly, respects Abbie
* Abbie’s mother: strong, supportive, owns the ranch she and Abbie live on, divorced, caring, kind
* Carson’s grandfather: wise, friendly, outgoing, a good man, supportive of his grandson
* That there was no cheating on the part of the main characters
* The way Abbie began to see her current boyfriend, Seth, a bit more clearly
* The respect Abbie and Carson had for one another
* The competition and how it played out
* The plot, pacing, setting, and writing
* That there was a happy ending
What I didn’t like:
* Who and what I was meant not to like
Did I enjoy this book? Yes
Would I read more by this author? Probably – though New Adult is not my preference
Thank you to NetGalley and Tuskan Publishing for the ARC – This is my honest review.
4-5 Stars
✨ 5 STARS ✨
i’m not a fan of cowboys and horses and all that. but i loved this book so much. it was super enjoyable and i loved the characters a whole bunch. it truly was just a five star read for me. no flaws. insanely quick and easy to get through. just cute small town lovey vibes and i ate it up.
abbie is a cute little horse girly living her perfect country girl life with her perfect fancy boyfriend when someone new comes to the small town to help get some work done and ends up stirring everything up!
1. i will love any book based in florida just a lil bit more bc it makes the book so much more fun and relatable as a florida gal. like what do you mean y’all can hang out in lakeland??? let me join you!!
2. i love a story where the main male character radiates “touch her and i’ll kill you” energy. we all deserve our own carson’s to beat up our ex boyfriends.
3. on that note, i will always appreciate the trope of finding the perfect man immediately after breaking up with a shitty boyfriend. and i ESPECIALLY love it when said shitty boyfriend already knew you would become involved with perfect man, was previously jealous about it, and warned you about said perfect man.
4. the way they said i love you for the first time while looking at the mountains over a balcony on 80 acres of farmland in tennessee????? love that
This book gives me farmers daughter vibes. Except it’s a friendship/love story regarding horses. I did Not know what to expect going into this read but I loved the cute playfulness between the characters. There is no denying they’re crushing hard. Love comes when you least expect it which is true for Abbie and Carson.
Thank you NetGalley & the publishers of Make Your Move.
I requested this book quite a while after it had been published and I’m so happy I did. This book gave me everything I needed and more. It was full of realizations, tough conversations, love and sacrifice. Along, with lots of laughs and funny moments to make it the whole package.
Abbie and Carson, are the cutest and their banter was so lovely to read and feel like I was part of it. I’m so happy they both faced the things in their lives that were holding them back and found each other along the way. They needed each other probably more than they realized and it was just so wonderful to witness as the reader.
This book deserves 5 stars ⭐️ 100%

• This was a pretty straight-forward romance. The entire brooding, 'stand-up for the girl' MMC is totally hot, and the FMC is also pretty likeable. I love her passion towards the horses and how real and grounded she is.
• It was a fast paced read. It was a fun & heartwarming rom-com set in Florida (for the most part) involving horseback riding, 'disrespect her and I will beat you up' MMC and angst/pining.
• The shower scene was really something to look forward to.🔥
What to expect ~
→Small town romance
→Gruff & brooding MMC
→One Bed trope
→Strangers➝Friends➝Lovers
→Summer love with an expiry date
Super cute romance! It weirded me out at first how many references there are to my hometown and the colleges and businesses near Tampa Bay, it felt very surreal. The story was adorable though and I enjoyed it!
I really loved this book. The setting, the plot, and the characters were so lovable. I had such a good time reading this and finished it in one sitting!
This is a new adult romance with Abbie who's family owns the horses that Carson is there to put new shoes on them. Bam, romance! It was a good book and it kept me entertained.

Oh my stars!!! How I loved this book!! It was a fun sweet and heartwarming read! I loved the small town rom-com, strangers to friends to more trope. So well written and great summer read!
This was a fun romantic read. As the main characters were involved in the equestrian world this was a great opportunity for me to learn more about the care and personality of horses. Some of it I was aware of but some information was new to me. Abbie and Carson were great lead characters and I was invested in their story. The flow and pacing of the book was good and it definitely kept my interest. Overall a very entertaining and delightful read.
A perfect slow burn summer read with some amazing spice!
Heather Garvin did an amazing job keeping me entertained throughout this book and I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters.
Overall it was a really sweet read!
*thank you to NetGalley and Heather Garvin for this e-arc in exchange for an honest review! It is much appreciated!
This was a cute slow burn romance with Abbie and Carson as the main characters.
This was a great summer read with fairly low angst. The spicy scenes were done really well as is the case with Heather Garvins other novels.
Overall a cute read perfect for escapism.
This book was enjoyable but not one of my favourites, perhaps because I don't really care for horses and the country vibe. Some of the storylines seemed 'reaching' - Carson's backstory, Abbie's friend Sarah - who really didn't contribute much to the story - should have been more involved, Abbie's original boyfriend......It was a fun and spicy read....however could have been so much more.
Thanks to NetGalley for letting me read this ARC early in exchange for an honest review!
Abbie has everything figured out until suddenly she doesn't. A new farrier shows up at her stables, her boyfriend is acting different, and that new farrier? She can't seem to stay away from him. But he's leaving soon so what are the two of them to do??
I never rode horses but I had a friend that did and still does. I always loved hearing about the horses and watching her ride. I read the Canterwood Crest books when I was little and absolutely adored them so I knew that I would love this one. It was so cute and the way that the characters were written made it so fun to connect with them!!
