As a 3rd grade teacher, I am always on the look-out for books that I can use in my classroom. Especially books that relate to the social-emotional learning theme. What I liked about Calming My Jitters Activity Book is that it could be used in the classroom or at home. It has many good strategies and it provides plentiful activities to help kids deal with their big feelings.
Thank you to NetGalley and BQB Publishing for the opportunity to read this book!
Thank you NetGalley for an ARC!
This book has some amazing activities to help kiddos when they are feeling disregulated. I feel this book is needed by many parents today and can give much needed ideas to parents and educators who are struggling with solutions for jitters. I will recommend this book to parents and will adopt this title to my therapeutic practice.
A lovely book of activities a parent can do with their child at home. Not only that, there are plenty of ideas here for a special education teacher to use. The ideas are simply presented in an easy-to-read manner so children can easily access them independently. Teachers, parents and children would enjoy these activities and it's a book that I will definitely be dipping into as a resource in my special education classroom.
This activity book has activities to start conversations with kids about their anxiety. This provides an outlet for them to draw and be focused on something else without realizing he or she is talking about their anxiety with a therapist or parent. A good tool to use in therapy with kids.
There were many suggested activities and movements to promote keeping calm. I loved the additions of explanations for sensory activities. Overall there were so many suggestions, I think anyone can find something that they would enjoy. My favorite was probably the beautifuly illustrated coloring pages. I wasn't as much a fan of the pages where it just provides a QR code to scan that takes you to a youtube video. I much prefer a book to be all in one, without needing to remember to go to an outside source. There is also the matter of potential dead links in the future or if someone is trying to reduce the amount of screentime as much as possible. It was also very short for an activity book and some of them even require you to buy a separate book to complete. Otherwise, I found it to be a great resource especially for parents who may struggle trying to come up with something to help their children.
*Received through Netgalley for my honest opinion*
I enjoyed reading this activity book. It had all kinds of activities that help calm jitters down. This was a helpful book.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.
There were some exercises that were very useful, like drawing what certain things mean to you. The rainbow breathing was excellent.
The rest didn't be helpful to me as someone who has suffered from anxiety since before kindergarten.
Thank you to BQB Publishing and Netgalley for the ARC. As a therapist myself, I appreciated more resources to work with kids about calming down their bodies. I did not realize when requesting that this book accompanied a series. I am definitely interested in more!
It is difficult to give this activity book a full review, as I didn’t realise it was a companion to a story book (which I have not read). But the activities in this book are good for calming a child. It focuses mainly on the senses, but has word searches and mazes etc. I would definitely recommend, if used alongside the accompanying storybook - it doesn’t quite work as a stand alone activity book.
Thank you to BQB Publishing, and Netgalley for an eARC of this book to read and review.
This is a great sensory activity book! I like that it introduces all 8 senses and does so in a kid-friendly way even with big words like proprioception. The illustrations are fun and light. There are QR codes for further resources. There are also questions for before during and after you read the book. I would use this in my classroom but is also a great at home resource.
This book provides lots of activity ideas and information to help your child understand what they are feelings and the help regulate things like their breathing. I am going to use this regularly to help my toddler understand how he feels and exercises we can do to help us calm down and think through.
This book is all about sensory processing challenges. This activity guide goes through the different scenes to help children, parents and teachers with neurodiverse children.
There is a Yiddish word, shpilkes, having lots of excess energy, toes tapping, drumming the desk, swaying from side to side, wanting to move, maybe nervousness, maybe excitement, maybe just, just, shpilkes. I am not a therapist but this book, Calming, seems to be letting kids know that there are many ways of shaking it out. So, go ahead, calm or enjoy those jitters. Jeepers creepers! Once I was at the airport listening to some toe tapping bluegrass, I had on my headphones, I was in my zone, my feet tapping away. A Mom said to her young son, "Look, he's just like you, constantly in motion." The kid was 8, I was 58. Some things never change.
