I liked the design of this book and thought it was really cute but it didn't stand out to me as anything new in the world of self-help. It was more a collection of sayings and short advice than anything else.
The graphics, the reminders, this would make a great going away to college gift or for anyone struggling with their mental health.
This is a book I will be buying and giving to my friends as well. This is just a wonderful way to say “you matter” and that mental health and self kindness is important. I need something like this almost daily and I am so grateful to have found this book.
I think one of the aspects of this book that I most appreciated was the visuals. The graphics in the book were very nice and appealing! I liked the color scheme a lot. The beautiful drawings of the outdoors were a highlight to me. I could imagine reading this book while camping, or on a bench in a park.
This book is definitely full of “friendly reminders”. I think it is full of a lot of good messaging, especially when it comes to the first chapter regarding self care. Some of the messaging felt a little repetitive, though. However, this could definitely be beneficial to a lot of people!
“It’s not selfish to take care of yourself first- it’s selfish not to”
I feel like it’s not a leap for me to say that this book definitely will not work for everyone. In my case, I appreciated the approach! It’s no-nonsense and not as fluffy as other self help/ self care reminder books on the market so I definitely think it fills a void.
The illustrations were cute and I wonder if the physical copy takes on more of a coffee table book aesthetic because it would suit it so well. I have an e-arc, so I can’t be sure. The quotes at times came across a little instagram influencerish, or maybe more motivational speaker. I wrote this as a part of my review before I knew that the author was an influencer, so it does actually fit the brand! Overall, I think the title Friendly Reminders is perfect for this book. It’s not filled with things you haven’t heard before, but it’s good to be reminded :)
One quote I’ll take away from the book is “when you’ve healed a piece of you, you’ll start telling that story differently.” I’ve found it to be true in my life and I’ll definitely remember it!
Huge thanks to Quarto Publishing and NetGalley for the advanced reader copy in exchange for my honest review!
This was such a nice relaxing and refreshing read, this book felt like a warm hug from your best friend!
Some wonderful outlooks and ways to incorporate happiness and self care into your day to day life!
I will definitely be using the little lessons within this book to help make life a little easier!
This is such a nice book and would highly recommend if looking for a nice easy self care book for yourself or to gift a loved one!
