Thank you NetGalley for the advanced reader copy of this book, for my honest and voluntary review. This book took odd a little slow and gained massive momentum quickly. What a great read with heart stopping suspense and action. Highly recommend this book!
Wow! When I started this book I thought I knew the basic path this story would take. I was wrong. "Roger" and his scheming were only the tip of the iceberg here. I couldn't put this one down with all the twists and turns. I had to find out what happened next. 10/10 recommend.
Thank you to NetGalley for the advanced copy of this book.
This was an okay read. I enjoyed it but it was not the best thriller that I have read recently. In the beginning it was kind of hard for me to follow the storyline.
This was my first EV Seymour book but definitely won’t be my last! This one hooked me early on and never let go. The characters and storyline were brilliant. This book kept me totally engaged and reading way past my bedtime. I loved the exploration into the human psyche. A really deep dive into our secrets and how they can alter our life path.
Thank you to EV Seymour, NetGalley and Joffe Books for the opportunity to read and review this book
I couldn't out this book down! The characters were relatable, and the storyline was one that made me need to just carry on reading to find our what was going to happen.
At points I wanted to cry and others made me laugh. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a psychological thriller.
I've read other books by this author and really enjoyed them. This one however I just couldn't seem to get into. I skimmed more than read the last few chapters
This wasn't for me. Very character based and a really odd writing style. It felt really jumpy and just didn't all flow and connect so you end up completely lost at parts. It had the jystery element but I wouldn't say it gave much as a thriller which is what I wad after. This just wasn't for me
The story follows Verity, and her mother, Eleanor through some deeply rooted secrets that are being unearthed by a new relationship. We follow them through their journey to truth and reconciliation.
Overall, I enjoyed this book and thought the plot was engaging. However, the storyline became a bit hard to grasp with some “coincidences” and attitudes expressed by the characters.
I also feel like I wanted more from the ending. Another twist or more clarity.
Overall would consider 3.5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and Joffe books for the opportunity to read and review this ARC.
Fast paced and seriously twisty. A great suspense thriller that kept me on the edge of my seat!
Will definitely be checking out more from this author!
This book stayed out well but was difficult to follow. I did not connect with the characters and therefore had a harder time “rooting” for them throughout the book. It did have a level of suspense and was a quick read. Just not my favorite book of the season.
The premise of this book sounded great! This was my first book by this author and I was excited to read it. . It started out fairly good but it became increasingly difficult to read and follow the storyline. I found the writing style very hard to read and disjointed. It was a struggle to read. Thank you to NetGalley, Joffe Books and E.V. Seymour for the opportunity to read and review this ARC. ⭐️⭐️
There are many parts of the book that are enjoyable and keeps you reading to find out what is going to happen.
I found the writing style hard to follow at many parts of the book. Which is why I have to give it the star rating I have. Part 2 was the the most interesting book of the book but also the hardest to follow. The point of view would change without much warning and I would have to reread paragraphs to completely understand who's view it was. This would happen many times in the same chapter. I was into the story so hung in there to find out what happened, but wish it was easier to read so I could of enjoyed it better.
Thanks for the opportunity to read an Advanced copy by netgalley!
The Widow’s Boyfriend starts with a new man in Eleanor’s life, 5 years after her husband passed. Verity, Eleanor’s daughter, is the only one concerned that Roger seems suspicious. After doing some digging and detective work on her own, what she finds out still isn’t enough to convince her mother he isn’t who he says he is.
The second half of the book was better than the first in my opinion. I feel the transition wasn’t as smooth as it could have been, but the storyline definitely sucked me in. Overall it was a great storyline and I’m glad it ended happily! Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC!
I found the writing and the pacing extremely hard to stick with.
The book is a fair mystery but not really thrilling. Suspense is definitely available but I found it very hard to care.
Verity lost her father five years ago and misses him greatly. Her mum Eleanor has now met a new man and Verity is straight away suspicious as her mother is quite wealthy, she is happy for her and hopes this man is genuine. But after meeting, him something does not ring true to her and she decides it will not hurt to do a little digging on this Roger Scott-Jefferies. Now things start off.
Verity then finds a postcard in the mail at her mothers house, addressed to an Eleanor but has a Polish surname, when Verity asks her mother about it she tells her it is a mistake that it was sent to her house. This is the beginning of a very intense and suspenceful story that again I read in one sitting. I loved all the characters both good and bad, they all had depth and were portrayed well, each contributing to making this a great book. The plot is well thought out and delivered, it keeps you guessing. A great thriller highly recommended, 4 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy of the book, all opinions are my own.
This was a quick read for me because I could not put it down. I have never read anything by this author but now will make it a point to peruse her writings. I loved this book. Verity's mom, Eleanor, is dating after losing her husband 5 years ago. Verity is thrilled for her until she meets the new boyfriends. Although he checks all the boxes on the outside, Verity feels something is off with him. And she intends to find out what.
This brings about a series of events that threaten the entire family. Verity discovers secrets about her mom and now Verity's life is in danger. The twists are incredible. The author did a wonderful job with the characters, bringing them all to life. The ending was perfect.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC. I highly recommend this book if you love thrillers.
Verity's father has passed away on and the 5th anniversary of his death her mother goes on a date with a new man. When Verity meets the new man she is not convinced. Strange things start to happen in the house around the same time and it looks like Verity's mother has been hiding secrets from her daughter.
A well paced thriller with lots to hang your hat on. Good read.

Thank you for the opportunity to review this book!
Unfortunately I did not like Seymour's writing style. I found it hard to disconnect the main character from the character "verity" in Colleen Hoover's book as well. It's a very uncommon name and since that book was so popular it was hard to separate.
I found it a little hard to get fully engrossed into the story. While I did find it intriguing as there were many secrets, I feel it lacked suspense. The characters were a bit lackluster and I found it hard to really care about the outcome of things. It's still a decent read and if you like psychological thrillers this would be a good one for you!
Thanks to Netgalley and Joffe Books for a digital ARC.

Verity’s mother Eleanor has been a widow for five years and is now secretly dating someone she met online. Eleanor feels like her old self and has once again found happiness.
However Verity is suspicion when she meets the charming, perfect Roger Scott-Jefferies. Verity’s women’s intuition tells her something just doesn’t seem right.
There is cryptic postcard that Eleanor refused to explain.
Second part of this story goes back to when Eleanor was a neglected child. She becomes an uncontrollable and therefore an unwanted teen. Things happen and Eleanor is kidnaped and abused. Verity starts to uncover what happened to her mother when she was younger and also the many secrets that soon bring danger to Verity. Then Verity is abducted and held for ransom.
I found most of this story dark and not enjoyable but difficult to read.
The novel’s promo states
An unputdownable psychological thriller with a breathtaking twist’.
I am a big psychological thriller fan so was looking forward to this! Although I found it intense it wasn’t my twists and turns Psychological thriller.
The ending did not take my breath away’! It did clarified a lot.
Both Verity and Eleanor end up in the hospital. There they are both questioned and Eleanor goes into details explaining ~ Michael Yuill aka Roger; Cheryl Castrey, Tootha and Clay Birch.
The ending was a bit of a surprise
