Quick review for a quick read. I received this as a galley several years ago and never actually got around to reading it until now. "The Seduction Hypothesis" is one of three novellas in the "The Science of Temptation" series. Each story can stand alone, so starting in the middle didn't bother me for picking this up. This highlights Ben and Lindsay's story - two former lovers who had broken up but happen to be going to a fan convention. Lindsay really likes Ben, but she doesn't like that he's unavailable to take risks in the way she wants him to - not just in life but also in the bedroom. Ben sees the convention as his way to win Lindsay back, but he doesn't quite know how. It isn't until he's talking with his peers that he finds out what Lindsay wants from him. And the relationship that they're exploring? Lindsay as a sub with experience and want, while Ben is a dom who is finding his way.
I thought this was just okay. There were times when I really wanted Lindsay to be concrete about what she wanted and it wasn't exactly fair to Ben to keep him in the dark about it. Ben, on the other hand, was trying to embody what he thought Lindsay wanted - some of it worked while other parts really just came across as being slightly a jerk (He wasn't sure when to turn his roleplay on/off, among other things). At the very least by the end of this story, they both figure things out to a point where they can proceed together, which I appreciated. "The Seduction Hypothesis" was just the right length to have their respective conflict arc, but unfortunately it didn't work for me as well as I hoped it would for the development. (And I'm a person who appreciates geeky people getting together - I was hoping it'd be my jam!)
I'm curious about the rest of this series, so I'll definitely pick it up to review. It may be that this particular couple didn't work for me, but I do want to see what the other couples do in this respective series, and it's a short one.
Overall score: 2.5/5 stars.
Note: I received this as an ARC from NetGalley, from the publisher.
Requested and downloaded this book back in 2013 with every intention of reading it but then it expired on my device before I had the chance. Have felt bad about that and as a result haven't wanted to leave a review but with more and more publishers relying on Feedback ratings I need to clear out some of these older titles in my queue.
Sweet, quirky and a fun follow up to Cam and Ivan's book from earlier. We met Lindsey and Ben in book one, and it was great to get to know them a little better. I was a bit put off by Ben's sudden decision to become a Dominant - that's something I would have thought he might have figured out before, simply because of what he does and his demand for perfection. However, it's a great read and I think the series is a great recommendation for patrons looking for something different!
*I never got around to reading and reviewing this book. I may do so in the future*
Just needed a little bit more...

Comic Con meets BDSM club in THE SEDUCTION HYPOTHESIS which results in a hot and enjoyable read, but it was a little too short to really do the plot justice.
Ben and Lindsey broke up under not so great circumstances, and now they are stuck attending a comic convention together that was planned before the break up. Talk about awkward. Lindsey still has feelings for Ben and Ben still has feelings for Lindsey, but they don't know how to get back to each other.
Until Lindsey is invited to be Sub Red, a character from her favorite graphic novel who is a submissive at a BDSM club. She really gets into the role and it gives Ben an idea of how to win her back. But, will he just play at the Dom role or will Ben and Lindsay be embarking on a new facet of their relationship together?
So, this was definitely an interesting concept. I was intrigued by the BDSM graphic novel (is there such a thing, I will be researching that). Also, I could see the whole scenario play out. Couple are going along fine then one person goes out on a limb to try to show that they are interested in something and then the other person shuts them down because they are uncomfortable. Neither one of them truly communicates what they are feeling and it dissolves the relationship. I've seen that happen in real life many times over.
But while, I thought that the background of the story had a lot of truth to it, it was hard for me to get into how Ben and Lindsey moved forward. Ben basically became a Dom overnight and he did that with permission from others in the lifestyle who he sought advice from. He had never done any of the things he had tried on Lindsey before, and that made me a bit uncomfortable.
I know why that happened. The story is very short, so there wasn't a lot of time for Ben to get experience, but that was my problem with the book. It needed to be fleshed out more, given more time to develop to truly meet it's full potential.
