Historical romance. Regency-era England. Book 3 of the Highland Knights series. We jump right into the drama here with Lady Emilia showing up at the Knights’ house a big bloody mess. Turns out her father has viciously whipped her after she found evidence of a treasonous plot against the crown. Sir Colin is the only man that she trusts and he’s tasked with hiding her away in Scotland until her father can be apprehended. We get a road trip romance here with both Colin and Emilia suffering from past trauma (him from his time in the war, her from her abusive father) but getting to know and trust each other. Things continue to take a dangerous turn when her father eventually catches up to them. It’s a lot of action and adventure in this one, but luckily no third-act break-ups.
A beautifully well written love story!
Both Colin and Emilia had nightmares of the past and present. When Emilia found out the plot her father had planned for the Royal family, she headed straight to Colin, one of the Highland Knights.
Colin had a soft spot for Emilia but didn’t believe he could make anyone happy and was dangerous due to his demons.
From the moment Emilia met Colin, she instantly had a sparkle for him but didn’t think he would ever notice her!
Two lost souls who come together in this beautifully written love story with lots of action, suspense, danger and lots of steamy moment along the way to their very own HEA.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an ARC. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I wasn't kidding when I said I would be reading more Jennifer Haymore! This is another book in the Highland Knights series and I really enjoyed it.
The book's main characters are actually introduced to us in a prior book but if you haven't read it, I think you'll be ok. Haymore hits the high notes on who they are and how they know each other as well as providing an overview of the other characters and their relationships from prior books as well.
There is a lot going on in this book outside of the relationship of the two main characters which I appreciated. I think Haymore built up their stories just enough for the reader to connect with who they are outside of the romance and set the backdrop for the rest of the story.
When Lady Emilia Featherstone discovers that her father has been scheming against the crown, she turns to the Highland Knights for protection—and retribution. Spirited away to protect her from her father, Colin and Emilia find the sparks they felt when he was protecting her father in the past have not gone away and before long, curiosity gives way to attraction. Emilia has learned firsthand from her father that men are not to be trusted but she knows Colin is different.
Sir Colin Stirling is the mmc and he has struggled with memories that haunt him since his wartime actions. Thinking he is mad, he no longer trusts himself with meaningful relationships of any kind but when he is faced with fighting the demons and loving Emilia, he quickly realizes she is the one to help him.
As these two find their way and fight against the evils that will try to keep them apart, they realize that they need one another and will do whatever it takes to be together and protect each other from their demons - real or ghostly.
I enjoyed this installment of this series and look forward to the next one. Haymore did a great job building out the story as I found myself turning the pages and not wanting to put it down until I learned everything. If you're looking for a quick read and a good story, check this one out!
Saved by the Scot by Jennifer Haymore
10/10 - I needed to put on the A/C and Fan on. Absolutely binge-worthy, love story that can fog up the window. Amazing book!
This was adorable, fun, emotional, sexy, romantic… I could go on but to cut long story short Saved by the Scot is attractive and relaxing read you would not like to miss.
A tale of two people meant to be together. Each haunted by demons but their support for each other bring their strengths to the fore and find extraordinary courage to overcome their greatest fears. Excellent story full of loving and tender moments, action packed and just as steamy.
I received an ARC from Netgalley and leaving my review voluntarily.
Highland Knight Colin is still suffering from his war memories. Emilia turns to him to protect her from her evil father. Attracted to each other, they flee from London to Scotland to try and avoid the team of men searching for Emilia. Spending time alone together makes the attraction even stronger, but can either really trust each other with their secrets? I received an ARC from NetGalley and Victory Editing NetGalley Co-op for my honest review.
Highland Knights is a great series, and I'm excited for what its re-release may signal. This is book 3, and while it stands alone, reading the others will help you to appreciate this one more, especially since Colin and Emilia are introduced earlier. From the start, they feel connected though both are broken: Colin from the war and PTSD and Emilia from her abusive father. They must protect each other and help find strength.
The book is full of passion, adventure, and sweet moments. The dialogue is a little stilted and cheesy in some places, and I dislike the author blatantly pointing out how much Colin loves sex and how he use to be a manho before the war. Why do authors think women find this sexy? Especially before condoms and penicillin??? Gross!
Otherwise, it's a satisfying romance, and I hope that the writer will either extend this series or start a new highland series.
