Although this is book 2 in series it can be read as a standalone. I read mindwalker first but if you don't you wouldnt lose out or become fuses as each book focuses o different tech companies and ser main characters.
I liked that there is some big topics like how far is it to go for technology, whats write and wring, and morally questioning whats right or wrong. Then there is the religious cult that shunts technology dispite it being needed to survive in a toxic (nuclear) enviroment.
There is action, decpetion, challenging morales, struggles, change, grownth, techilogy is it good or bad debate and LGBTQ + Rep.
Can't wait to see what Kate Dylan beings out next.
Sequel to mindwalker but can be read as a standalone.
A great take on what a futuristic and dystopian world would look like. I thoroughly enjoyed our main character, Indra’s journey throughout with herself and beliefs but I did find her quite annoying at times but the surrounding characters to her story were so good and great additions. There was also Great world building, which can sometimes be hard to do in a SF and futuristic world!
The audiobook format kept my attention the whole time, I really enjoyed the narrator.
Overall a great SF, futuristic, dystopian read.
This is a fantastic follow up to Mindwalker. I loved it. Kate Dylan poses some very interesting questions about what a futuristic world would look like.
The main character is a bit naïve but the struggle for her between big tech and her religious upbringing was really well done. And some of the twists at the end were just *chefs kiss*.
A brilliant sequel to Mindwalker (that can also be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel). The story is full of high stake, dystopian thrill, compelling dialogue, brilliant characters and themes around rebellion, revenge and love.
Dylan’s writing is fabulous! I adored everything about this novel, however, I felt the pacing slightly falters in the middle. Nevertheless, it was so good to see Sil and the others again, and get to know all the new characters and the relationships/ dynamics they brought to this world (especially our main protagonist, Indra and our morally grey Science research assistant, Tian).
The overall story is captivating and most definitely ‘edge of your seat’ thrilling!
Highly recommend! 4.5 stars
Thank you Hodderscape for my arc.
Thanks to Netgalley and Hodder & Stoughton for this review copy.
Kate Dylan once again created an amazing story. While I didn't like Indra as much as Sil from Mindwalker, I still got pulled in her struggles and fights. I hope that we will get a third book set in this universe!
This book is dynamic and exciting to listen to.
The cast are all fun to read about and come from diverse backgrounds. There’s plenty of action and twists and turns with the pacing being fast. The use of humour in the book is great and is a contrast to all the drama/action. Overall I most loved the exploration of being a robot and how this may change you.
A great YA that’s Sci-Fi and accessible.
The audio book is really great to listen to, the narrator sounds young just like the FMC and I thought their voice fitted so well.
Thank you to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton Audio for an Audio-ARC. This is a voluntary review of my own thoughts.
This was a great build on the Mindwalker book that was the first in the series, with an new story in the same universe. I really like the strong female protagonists and the plot was gripping, with a few great twists and full of action.
The narrator was excellent.
Now if you know me, chances are I've probably pushed MindWalker onto you at somepoint since I read it last year.
So when I say I was excited for MindBreaker... that is an understatement. So when I seen this on NetGalley and was approved (thank you to NetGalley and Hodderscape for this) I may or may not have jumped right in (sorry tbr, I'll get to you all eventually)
Now to the story. MindBreaker is set in the same World as MindWalker but instead of Sil and Syntex we have Indra and Glindell and a new type of tech.
Indra is part of an anti tech cult but loves to dapple with tech... when an excursion for this leads to her being terminally ill, Glindell offer her a deal, give over ownership of her life for the chance at a new one... not much of a choice when death is the alternative. Even when this choice will cause her cult, and her family, to shun her.
Left with no other option, Indra submits, but after the process, Indra becomes suspicious of lost time and glitches in her memories so she seeks help from Tian, a research assistant on the programme. Can Indra trust anyone within the company fully, no matter how nice they seem?
Weighing up her options, Indra realises escape is the best option, but whats a former God Girl losing her grip on humanity to do when shes free in the world.... stay tuned to find out!
A whole new story with characters to fall in love with, set in a world we know and love... there might even be mention of a familiar AA from book one!
This bright scifi techy dystopian world has my heart and no pressure Kate but more books in this world would be a delight
Thank you to Net Galley and Hodder and Stoughton/Hodderscape for the chance to read and review this book early.
*update I have also just reread on audio and loved the book in this format as well, the narrator was great. Knowing the story did not hinder my enjoyment and thanks again to NetGalley and Hodder Audio for the early copy... if this is anything like book one... it won't be the last time I read either
A brilliant fast-paced sci-fi action thriller.
I was initially worried this wouldn't hold up to Mindwalker, but my concerns were unfounded. Mindbreaker is just as well-plotted and paced, and constantly kept me guessing about what was going to happen next. There's a nice host of original characters to root for: Indra, the down-on-her-luck protagonist raised in a tight religious circle, Nyx, a hacker living on the edge of society, and Tian, a prodigal scientist, as well as fun cameos from old ones. Sil, Ryder and the rest of the Analog Army make a welcome reapparance, but not overwhelming return, having their moments of spotlight whilst allowing the new main characters to shine. The audiobook especially, narrated with pace and efficiency by Stephanie Cannon, makes all the characters so easily distinctive from each other.
I wasn't expecting the thematic scrutiny on religion this time around – Indra comes from a Christian-equivalent group on the fringe of society that worships God (with a capital G) and despises tech enhancements of every kind – but it didn't necessarily feel like a criticism on faith, more so on the cult attitudes it can breed.
WILL I READ MORE BY THIS AUTHOR? Sure.
Dylan returns with another vivid tale of autonomy and humanity in a cyber-capitalist dystopia that is a perfect critique of current culture and yet an engaging and explosive plot.
This book is slower paced than the first, but I honestly enjoyed it a lot more. The narrative lingers a lot more on the main character's internal conflict and elaborating on the worldbuilding, rather than the romance - although that is definitely a cute subplot! The discussions on religion, lawful immorality, and bodily autonomy are the highlight of this book.
This series definitely bridges the YA-Adult divide and is great for fans of the MCU, The Hunger Games, and especially the 2010s YA dystopia era.
Kate Dylan sells her books as your favourite Marvel movie in book form and that is never more true than in MINDBREAKER. It furthers the themes of MINDWALKER with a new heroine who is even more machine than flesh and who questions her humanity while battling tech giants and a neon dystopian future. The pace was furious and the narration spot on. Bravo.
This is the second book set in the same universe but featuring a new main character, Indra a former anti-tech cult member who gets injured during a radioactive storm and then enhanced by one of the mega tech companies from book one. I found Indra a hard character to like, she hadn't had a lot of choices in her life and was very angry about the fact (understandably!) but it made it difficult to empathise with some of the things she did and the choices that she went on to make. When Indra and her hacker buddy meet up with the cast of the first book I felt that things improved a lot - from having a much bigger set of characters to care about and catching up with old friends from Mindwalker. It's a solid sequel that leaves room for further instalments. The narration was great, with distinct voices and definition of characters.
Just damn. Kate has done it again and created a sci-fi technology universe you can’t put down until you finish the very last chapter, or in my case until you realise it’s 2 am and you probably should go to bed because you have work to do in the morning.
I didn’t think that this book could be any better than the first, but damn was I wrong, Kate has developed her writing even more, which I didn’t think was physically possible, to be even more amazing; creating a world that you fall in to and follow each electrical pulse along the adventure’s twists and turns so much I ended up messaging Kate several times with comments like ‘what the fuck’.
Although I am not the biggest fan of sci-fi, as you can probably see from the little amount of sci-fy I read…this is definitely one book that even if you are not a sci-fi fan you must read. I loved it from beginning to end and you can see the work and love that the author has put into every single chapter and character. I cannot wait for everyone to read this book, not only that, but I am insisting now that Kate must create more books because I need her writing in my life permanently permanently.
A massive thank you to Kate for letting me read this early and having every emotion under the Sun escape for me while reading it. I hope that the special edition I have designed lives up to this amazing story.
Great sequel, had a lot of the same vibe as the first one. Mystery, action, technology, dystopia. The only thing that could have been better would be subtle recaps as to which character was which, as it has been some time since the first one so took a little to recognise them again.
High Tension YA Adventure
🧡 First thing’s first. This is the second book in the same world as the excellent Mindwalker, but a totally different story. To me, this was heavier on the Y than the A of young adult. So, this wasn’t for me, but I wanted to review it for the “me” that would have been all about this when I was also heavier on the Y than the A.
💚 This was an edge-of-seat fast-paced adventure with a likeable protagonist who has everything to lose. Motivations are genuine and stakes are skyscraper high. More on the earnest than humorous side and an interesting meld of religion and tech.

SOUNDBITE
🎧 Faultless production, including the chapter headings. Add to that the phenomenal dulcet tones of Stephanie Cannon and this was a winner on the listening front.
🎧 Take note: There’s lots to keep up with. Small details and many characters abound, so keep your ear drum on a swivel. I had to relisten when I realised I’d missed the intro of a new character.
Big thanks to NetGalley and Hodder & Stoughton Audio for providing me with an ALC in return for an honest review.
WOW. Kate Dylan has done it again. I loved Mindwalker (unputdownable) and you can go ahead and add Mindbreaker to the list of books I devoured in just a couple days.
The story follows Indra - raised in an anti-tech cult and forced to embrace tech in order to save her own life...only to find that that tech has now turned her into a human machine and may yet rob her of her humanity altogether. In Dylan's typical style, this high-octane thriller catapults us straight into danger while also asking us to question the role of tech and tech companies in our own world.
I listened on audio and the narrator did an excellent job. Highly recommend the audiobook for other audio aficianados like myself.
Loved this sequel so much!
Indra is dangerously ill but is actually bought and paid for by Glindell Technologies and turned into....something else but all is not well inside Indra and she breaks free, meets up with an old friend and a new friend from Glindell, Tian. And it all comes out what has been happening - none of it good!!
This was fast paced and full of action and drama! I love this world so much! Also a couple of familiar faces pop up in the form of Sil, Ryder and the AA - so happy!!!
Indra ran into everything headlong and was totally reckless but Nyx tried to be her anchor, the voice of reason. Talking of Nyx, it was refreshing to get a friendship that didn't turn into a romance as they're both queer!
This book, as well as book 1, has just shown me not to trust tech!!! I really hope there's more in this world!
Ok, ok, so this would never be my go to genre, but I’ve been continually craving something different. It’s a sequel and I hadn’t read the first instalment but let me tell you, I AM SOLD. I loved it, devoured it and couldn’t wait to find out what happened next.
I was pretty much sold from the first page. It’s the first sci fi type book I’ve ever read that I’ve thought “Ah I understand what’s going on here” so maybe this YA is a beginners guide? Regardless it’s excellent. The premise is brilliant, the characters are relatable, everything else going on was written so succinctly that I absolutely got it. I love when I give something a try and it totally surprises me. What captured me most of all was that it is fiction of course but it was absolutely believable, and I got the message. Beautifully narrated by Stephanie Cannon.
With special thanks to NetGalley and Hodder and Stoughton audio for the opportunity to listen to this audiobook in return for an honest review.
