Another fantastic entry in the InvestiGators series. What exactly happened to the cruise ship? Was it a ghost? The truth may just surprise you. It kept me guessing until the end and it was excellent fun. There is a new subplot that is carrying across volumes and I cannot wait to see what will happen then!
The InvestiGators have seen it all: former partners turned into crackers, impossible art gallery thefts, and science that turns a snake into an arm. But they have questions about possible ghosts and superstitions when a cruise captain washes into the Coast Gourd's hands after the rest of the ship disappeared. The captain can only say "Willy-Nilly" as his employer Bill N Dealz claims nothing is wrong. And he's announcing a second cruise that costs only one dollar per ticket. Something is afoot, and the Coast Gourd notify the InvestiGators. Time for a cruise vacation! Rather, an undercover trip where Mango and Brash use their time onboard to figure out the mystery.
You can never go wrong with pirates. And pirates do appear, ready to raid the ship. Mango and Brash have to figure out how to save the current vacationers, and how to find the previous ones. Allies may come from unlikely places, from the skeleton crew that has no skeletons to a certain eyeball.
I had a lot of fun reading, and learned a bit more about ship terms. As usual, the dynamic duo fill their trip with wordplay, keen observation, and disguises.
These graphic novels are so popular with my kids. This was yet another slam dunk for them. They loved the story. They loved the fun. They loved illustrations. Such a fun series!
"All Tide Up" by John Patrick Green is a captivating graphic novel for young readers. Join a group of lovable investiGators in this charming seaside mystery with vibrant art, relatable characters, and an engaging plot. It's not just a fun story; the book incorporates cool marine life and eco lessons Our school library patrons can't get enough of this series and this new installment is no different!
Kids will love this book with the humor and puns. They are written as comics or graphic novels, so that is another reason kids will really enjoy them. I recommend them to my students.
Here purely because the first in a spin-off series was so expertly done, so punsomely clever and so well written (https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/5586372222), I found this took some time to really hit full speed, but once it did it was fine. Here a cruise ship captain is rescued from the sea, sans cruise ship – and whisked away by a billionaire employer before the truth can come out. Our two investi-gators, with the emphasis on the alligator bit, have to get on board the cut-price sequel cruise and try and work out just what is happening.
Now, to start with the actual intrigue is perhaps too deep for this age range book – this is not an old bloke walking around a school in a bedsheet keeping people from finding a treasure. It's actually something to stump anyone turning up to this, and it might be the first time a young reader really gets that feeling of having no idea what is happening. But then the other side of things comes in, as the young reader just has no idea why the hell their parent is laughing along to the jokes dropped all over the place for the adults, mostly involving musical puns. The many other jokes are suitable for the target reader, and between them and the gators we learn all about life on board a ship.
It is in the finish a fairly convoluted drama, but the style and everything is very amenable, the education and piratical fun will go down very well, and this will surely remain a decent entrant to this series. Book Seven, as it is, gets four stars from me, for these refuse to talk down to the young, fail to alienate the old, and create reads that are certainly not disposable.
This is the next installment of a Fin-tastic series following two In-Vest-i-GATORS. Mango and Brash not only sport super technologically advanced vests, they help solve mysteries and crimes. In this novel, Mango and Gator are undercover on a cruise ship trying to solve why Bill N Dollars is giving away cruise passes for $1 and why the first cruise ship went missing. They swim into some old acquaintances along the way and find some old friends by the end. I will forever love the puns in this series. Thoroughly enjoy as a somewhat grown up adult.
Highly recommend for kids 3rd grade and up!
A much-awaited installment in the InvestiGators series! My students love these books and will not be disappointed in the new story, All Tide Up. The illustrations are vibrant and engaging and the format appeals to a wide variety of readers, including those who struggle to find a book they are interested in reading. I cannot wait to add this to my classroom library!
InvestiGators:All Tide Up is a great addition to the series. My students love these books and always look forward to the next one coming out. John Patrick Green is a great author and all of his books are fun to read out loud in a classroom but also entertaining for the students to read on their own.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an electronic copy to read in exchange for an honest review.
My son loves these books and I can see why. Punny humor, colorful illustrations, and a halfway decent plot. The books are very much along the lines of Dogman. We're definitely adding this to the collection.
Mango and Brash return in the seventh installment of John Patrick Green’s Investigators series and once again, they do not disappoint! This pun-filled graphic novel features the duo on the case of the mysterious disappearance of a cruise ship and all its passengers--except for the ship’s captain. Mango and Brash start off with an investigation of the cruise line’s new owner Bill N. Dollaz and discover his plan to launch yet another cruise ship full of passengers. The duo is determined to prevent this ship from disappearing, too, and head to sea to uncover the truth. Fans of the series will love following Mango and Brash as they bring the mystery to a satisfying conclusion with lots of laughs along the way.
I requested this galley for my son and I to read together as he is a fan of the series. His review is that “it was the best one yet”! We enjoyed All Tide Up and can’t wait for the next!
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher.
My kids know I’m a bookworm, but getting an ARC of the latest InvestiGators book may be the first time they thought I was cool for it!
My son is a graphic novel addict and the InvestiGators series is one of his favorites! He binged the first 6 books this summer and was PSYCHED when I handed him an ARC of book 7 “InvestiGators: All Tide Up.” His review says all that needs to be said: “It is good, funny and every kid should read it!” He has also asked me no less than a dozen times whether I preordered his physical copy, because he NEEDS to complete his collection. #relatable I covered his face for privacy, but if you could see it you would see his giant GRIN from ear to ear. 😁
I highly recommend this series if you have elementary-aged kids. Although, the books should come with a WARNING that they are likely to keep kids up reading past their bedtime! 🤣
Thank you to First Second Books and NetGalley for the ARC. InvestiGators: All Tide Up is out TODAY!
I am a big fan of the InvestiGators and it is one of my top reader advisory recommendations that I give out a couple times a week at my library. This one continues fun adventures of Mango and Brash. I laughed so many times throughout the story and it was a fun fast read that really pulls in the read. I enjoy graphic novels and this one was another winner that will be at the top of my list for my patrons.
My son and I have really enjoyed the InvestiGators series as well as the spinoff series, agents of S.U.I.T. When I told him that I had gotten this one to review, he took it as his sworn duty. We read it a couple of chapters per night but his normally very forgetful brain latched on to every detail. The pirate thing was funny for most of the book for me, he loved it all. We will definitely continue this series as well as the spinoffs.
I would like to thank the publisher, author, and Netgalley for providing us with a copy in exchange for an honest review.
A great addition to the investigator series. I will recommend this for those that like the Dog Man or Cat Kid series. Parents would even enjoy reading this with their kids since there are so many funny puns and one liners.
This book is full of puns and silly scenarios that many children will enjoy. This is a good graphic novel for children who like to ready more comical style stories. For children who do not like to read, this book may help them get into reading a bit more. It is a fast simple read that is more likely to keep the attention of the reader. The case that the gators are investigating in the book is unpredictable and keeps the reader engaged. This is a good book for any classroom or public library and a good choice for anyone wanting to get into graphic novels.
Thank you to First Second Books, First Second Books and NetGalley for providing me with a free electronic copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
John Patrick Green did it again. Another hilarious and awesome InvestiGators book!
The story is hilarious, there are so many laugh-out-loud and snort-inducing moments, and the drawings are perfect.
I will keep repeating it every chance I get: if you have a kid who doesn’t love reading, they have been reading the wrong books. Give them something FUN. And this is one of those books I will be recommending to those who have middle-grade kids who “don’t like reading”. They will. Guaranteed. With a book series like this (and, to be honest, all by this author), every kid will learn to love books. At least those books. And I believe books like these are a gateway to opening doors to more books. This one also is the 7th book in the series – what more can give a kid a confidence boost in their own ability to read and enjoy books that realization that HEEEEY THIS IS THE 7TH BOOK IN THE SERIES I’M READING NOW? There really should be more books like this one. I will be looking forward to the next book by John Patrick Green!
We really liked this installment of InvestiGators! Green gets early elementary humor and does a great job of it. The dialogue is great and the story captures their attention. They enjoy the mysteries and I appreciate how many vocab words are woven in from Mango's confusion. The boys now know what Ominous and Omnibus means.
My son read it in one sitting and immediately offered to read it to his little brother because he liked it so much. This is a phenomenal graphic novel and we will continue to pick up anything Green writes.
This 7th installment of the InvestiGators series does not disappoint. Mango and Brash are back again in a pun-filled adventure with jokes for all levels to enjoy. The prove-you-are-a-pirate riddle test was the highlight of the story for me, but the whole graphic novel was fast paced and extremely fun. Fans of the series will be very happy with this book and new readers will surely enjoy it too. I plan to recommend it widely to Elementary students.
