This was a great book. I connected with the characters. I felt engrossed with the plot. I would read another book by this author.

This was a fun and quick read, I really enjoy and enemies to lovers book where the main characters knew each other from childhood and have to learn about each other as adults. The banister back and forth was great but I really loved Nami’s co-workers too. Overall a fun read that I would recommend

This one was cute but I didn’t love it. I felt like Nami was a fun character but the jealously was a little frustrating. I felt like both the main characters were immature for being like 30 years old. Either way the banter was really great between them and there were some sweet moments. I’d love to give this author another try!

Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for the earc. This review is my own.

This book is just cringe. I DNF at 20%. The MCs are 30 and hung up on high school rivalries, and that is the whole focus. Nami's company is failing and Jae works for Rainforest and is trying to buy it. He is big and strong and terrible and she is a terrible rule follower.

I REALLY enjoyed this book.

Nami turns 30 and realizes her life is nothing like she planned. Her fiance decimated their engagement. Her tech company is failing. Her sister is getting married and she has big feelings about it. Tired of her life, she makes a wish that her life will turn around on her birthday candles. Instead of getting everything she desires, the universe brings her mortal enemy, Jae. Jae was the most popular kid in high school, beat her out for valedictorian, and is everything she wished she could be. He’s also planning to take over her tech company. When this rivalry turns passionate, Nami starts to realize her company may not be the only thing Jae takes over…but he may also wind up with her heart.

I love a good enemies to lovers story, and this one was no different. This book was so entertaining that I ended up reading it in 1 sitting. The characters were so diverse and it really contributed to my enjoyment of the story. This could have been a 5-star book, but Nami is really insufferable and annoying for the first third of the book. For being 30 years old, she’s very immature. I get that Jae still being her mortal enemy was vital to the story, but I don’t know of any 30 year old who still holds that much of a grudge against someone 15 years in their past. It’s a small complaint, but it’s still annoying. I really enjoyed the office banter and wittiness of her tech employees though, and that helped make up for some of the things that bothered me so much about her.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher in for my copy in exchange for my honest review.

Enemies to lovers is just a fun trope and this is one of those good ones. I just really loved the journey of hear characters took and the way they found their HEA. I highly recommend this book if you want a good read.

Nami has been working her ass off forever, and Jae has been successfully climbing the corporate ladder at "Rainforest" - he's in a rut and her company is positioned to be bought out. While she's horrified to see her classmate, he's excited by the former high school rival's ability to ignite a spark in him. As they peel back the onion layers of each other's perceptions and misconceptions, they find they have far more in common than not. Really well-crafted story of academic rivals to lovers.

Thank you NetGalley. I found myself really dreading picking this book up. Despite the fact that the two love interests come from awful backgrounds, that wasn’t really my reason for not loving it. It just felt like there was no connection between the love interests and some of the plot points felt thrown in. I would be open to giving the author another shot though.

This book truly gave me enemies-to-lovers energy! It has great banter, a relatable heroine, and a swoonworthy, pining hero.

The Takeover by Cara Tanamachi
.
Nami is just trying to keep her company going and do what’s best for her employees that have become like family. But it seems likely that she will need to sell her company to save it. The buyer has sent a representative. And he is her high school nemesis.

What I liked:
This book was SO MUCH FUN. I was immediately drawn in, Nami loves her employees and this company sounded like such a cool place to work.

The rivalry and bickering between Nami and Jae Lee was superb. If you love enemies to lovers or rivals to lovers, The Takeover will not disappoint.

The audio was really good and I immediately wanted to give this book four stars.

However. There is a subplot going on at the beginning of each chapter that was absolutely HYSTERICAL and I had to give major props to that. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
.
4.5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I really recommend this one for fans of romcoms and the Rivals-to-lovers trope.

This is an absolutely fun and delightful enemies to more story, filled with lots of humor and witty banter that had me smiling and laughing out loud the entire way through.
If you're in the mood for a cozy lighthearted story, this is just the thing! Nami is approaching her thirtieth birthday and it is clear she's not where she expected to be at this point in her life. She's frustrated with her life and makes a wish on her birthday to find her soulmate. Well, it seems her wish was granted in a twisted sort of way, when her high school nemesis, Jae, shows up, as charming as ever, and is planning a hostile take over of her start-up tech company. She can't let that happen and their old rivalry resurfaces as strong as ever. But these passionate feelings seem to be stemming from more than just competitiveness, and Nami may be at risk of losing her heart.
A captivating and humorous tale that had me engaged from start to finish. The interactions between Jae and Nami were fun to read and they had such strong chemistry that was simply sizzling!
A very entertaining story that I am glad to have had the opportunity to read!
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley and St. Martin's Press and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I really enjoyed this book - it really delivered that lighthearted, rivals to lovers romance I was looking for. I pretty much devoured the story in one day.

The biggest sell for me was Nami. She was strong, confident, loyal, and took people down a few pegs when they needed it. As a woman in two very male dominant fields, it was so great to see her stand up for herself and be successful at it. Additionally, her pursuit to save her company really resonated with me and I was cheering her on the whole time. Then there's Jae - cocky, a bit of an ego, but is a secret softy. Jae and Nami balanced really well and their attempts to one up each other were equally embarrassing and hilarious.

💕enemies to lovers/ high school enemies
💕witty banter
💕 Spicy Ramen challenge had me laughing
💕Workplace romance

Overall, quick rom-com but didn’t love the ending. Might have made more sense if they knew each other college instead of still worrying about high school at the age of 30. It doesn’t help that I compare all office romance books to The Hating Game.

This book was a cute, quick read. My biggest complaint is that there were moments that read really immature. I like my book characters to act their age.

Nami's entire life is wrapped up in the company she started. Her days are spent at work, she socializes with coworkers, and at night she worries about how they are going to stay solvent. When one of her business partners reveals that funding has dried up, she is shocked to discover Rainforest (aka Amazon) is interested in purchasing the company. This would make her a ton of money, but would possibly put her friends out of work and dismantle the company she helped create. Then she discovers that the man behind the acquisition is her high school nemesis and she knows she must do whatever it takes to prevent the sale. A seasoned romance reader can imagine what happens next. This enemy to lover trope is well developed as they experience a slow burn. The initial twist in the story is obvious, but the ultimate conclusion is quite unique. Author Cara Tanamachi is an author to watch.

This book was great, it felt fresh and not like anything else I've read lately. It kept me intrigued all the way through, I didn't want to put it down.

Just another predictable enemies to lovers rom com! Not a bad thing at all - just the way I like it, light and easy. I was interested and captivated by it at the beginning, and then lost steam partway through and it made it harder to get through.

This book had me laughing out loud and also giggling to myself. As a big fan of enemies to lovers, this workplace rom-com was exactly what I needed.

Add in spicy ramen and attraction, this book is a solid enjoyable ride!

Highly recommend!

I once saw this meme talking about the fact that after you read fantasy, it's a little difficult to take enemies to lovers in a contemporary fiction seriously. And honestly, it's true. To be honest, I wouldn't consider this an enemies to lovers, it's more so a rivals to lovers.

This story follows Nami & Jae Lee. Nami life has taken a turn for the worst. Her fiancé has broken up their engagement and her tech company is about to lose their funding. Frustrated with her life she makes a wish on her 30th birthday to find her soulmate. Instead, the universe delivers her Jae Lee. Her high school rival. The popular kid at school who beat her out of being valedictorian.

Even now, after almost 10 years have passed, Jae is still as effortlessly cool and charming as ever. The worst of it? He's planning a hostile take-over of her startup. And again the two go head to head. As time passes, the two realize that maybe things have changed between them.

This was a super cute rom-com. Both characters were super likable, and I couldn't get enough of either POV. I had a lot of fun reading this one.
