This was a fun and cute read overall. Nami and Jae were both adorable and believable. The middle of the book dragged a bit, but I loved the tech company culture woven throughout. Nami's "midlife" crisis and dedication to her job felt very authentic and there was nothing forced about her reactions or the budding relationship with Jae.
this books its just so cute and I don't really cry with books and im pretty they didn't mean to me me cry but like it was so cute and I actually loved the book so much.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for granting me free access to the advanced digital copy of this book.
This was a great book and I'll be purchasing it for the library.
This one was honestly hard for me to get into, from the get go the phrasing of sentences felt very abrupt and off? Kind of "I did this. Then I did this. Then this happened." I'm not sure if I'm explaning it correctly but it did take me out of the reading with how it was written.
I also just genuinely didn't really care for either character. I never found myself rooting for either of them or the romance.
Overall, wasn't my taste for a book.
Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this eARC in exchange for an honest reviews. All opinions are my own.
Cara Tanamachi delivers a quick cute read. It’s a fun rivals to lovers with dual POV.
Girl-boss workplace romance? I need more of these.
Cara did a great job crafting and putting together a wonderful enemies to lovers story. I also loved the side stories of the office workplace antics, very relatable and lots of fun to read!
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
Jae and Nami are a cute couple and it's a sort of cute novel, but picture the two worst people in your office duking it out and then they fall in love.
This was a quick fun read! The enemies to lovers trope was done so well!
Nami is a strong fiercely independent business woman celebrating her 30th birthday, while her tech company, Toggle is about to loose funding, and shortly after her fiancée blew up their engagement. In swoops her high school nemesis Jae working for the company orchestrating Toggle's takeover.
The banter, sarcasm and shade thrown between Nami and Jae was fantastic. There was a great mix of a quirky workplace, family drama, and tension between Nami and Jae. By far one of the most engaging office settings I've ever read!
I enjoyed The Takeover even more than I expected! It was a fun, quick read with a captivating enemies-to-lovers romance. The story follows high school rivals Nami and Jae, who meet again years later and find their old animosities turning into something more. The characters are charming, and the office setting is vibrant and humorous, making it a place you'd want to work.
Author Tanamachi does a fantastic job with culturally diverse characters and witty banter. The chemistry between Nami and Jae is both steamy and swoon-worthy. If you're looking for an engaging and light-hearted read with enemies to lovers, I definitely recommend The Takeover!
This was a great book. I connected with the characters. I felt engrossed with the plot. I would read another book by this author.
This was a fun and quick read, I really enjoy and enemies to lovers book where the main characters knew each other from childhood and have to learn about each other as adults. The banister back and forth was great but I really loved Nami’s co-workers too. Overall a fun read that I would recommend
This one was cute but I didn’t love it. I felt like Nami was a fun character but the jealously was a little frustrating. I felt like both the main characters were immature for being like 30 years old. Either way the banter was really great between them and there were some sweet moments. I’d love to give this author another try!
Thank you to NetGalley and St.Martin’s Press for the ARC! This was such a cute and lighthearted read! The banter and rivalry between the two leads was so enjoyable! This is a quick read that is sure to keep you smiling! 3.75 stars!
Thank you to NetGalley and St Martins Press for the earc. This review is my own.
This book is just cringe. I DNF at 20%. The MCs are 30 and hung up on high school rivalries, and that is the whole focus. Nami's company is failing and Jae works for Rainforest and is trying to buy it. He is big and strong and terrible and she is a terrible rule follower.
I REALLY enjoyed this book.
Nami turns 30 and realizes her life is nothing like she planned. Her fiance decimated their engagement. Her tech company is failing. Her sister is getting married and she has big feelings about it. Tired of her life, she makes a wish that her life will turn around on her birthday candles. Instead of getting everything she desires, the universe brings her mortal enemy, Jae. Jae was the most popular kid in high school, beat her out for valedictorian, and is everything she wished she could be. He’s also planning to take over her tech company. When this rivalry turns passionate, Nami starts to realize her company may not be the only thing Jae takes over…but he may also wind up with her heart.
I love a good enemies to lovers story, and this one was no different. This book was so entertaining that I ended up reading it in 1 sitting. The characters were so diverse and it really contributed to my enjoyment of the story. This could have been a 5-star book, but Nami is really insufferable and annoying for the first third of the book. For being 30 years old, she’s very immature. I get that Jae still being her mortal enemy was vital to the story, but I don’t know of any 30 year old who still holds that much of a grudge against someone 15 years in their past. It’s a small complaint, but it’s still annoying. I really enjoyed the office banter and wittiness of her tech employees though, and that helped make up for some of the things that bothered me so much about her.

Enemies to lovers is just a fun trope and this is one of those good ones. I just really loved the journey of hear characters took and the way they found their HEA. I highly recommend this book if you want a good read.
Nami has been working her ass off forever, and Jae has been successfully climbing the corporate ladder at "Rainforest" - he's in a rut and her company is positioned to be bought out. While she's horrified to see her classmate, he's excited by the former high school rival's ability to ignite a spark in him. As they peel back the onion layers of each other's perceptions and misconceptions, they find they have far more in common than not. Really well-crafted story of academic rivals to lovers.
Thank you NetGalley. I found myself really dreading picking this book up. Despite the fact that the two love interests come from awful backgrounds, that wasn’t really my reason for not loving it. It just felt like there was no connection between the love interests and some of the plot points felt thrown in. I would be open to giving the author another shot though.
This book truly gave me enemies-to-lovers energy! It has great banter, a relatable heroine, and a swoonworthy, pining hero.
