Skye Fall is the 4th book of the Presley-Coombes family series. Isla is a nurse with a boyfriend who turns out to be deadly. She lives on the run for 2 years and meets Ben by accident. Through a series of unfortunate events, she and Ben find themselves needing to help one another. Unfortunately there are some shady characters and no one is to be trusted as both Ben and Isla find. All works out in the end. I loved catching up with the siblings from previous novels. There is abuse in the storyline just to be aware,
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this novel. These are my own thoughts and opinions.
‘Secrets. Everyone had them.’
Yep, this book had me at the first line!
I have read every book in this series and am such a fan of the Pressley-Coombes family!
This book has been my absolute favorite-which is saying something because this series has been one of the best romantic suspense series I’ve read!
The meet-cute was a total disaster and I loved every second of it! Everything else was absolute icing in the cake.
Ben was super swoony and I loved his protectiveness without being over protective and stifling! His personality was such a fun one to watch develop and get more of after reading snippets of him in books 1-3!
Isla is fabulous! She is such a strong character and I really loved getting to know her. She’s inspiring and brave and easily one of my favorite leading lady characters!!
I loved that we still had some drop-ins on the other siblings and still got to experience the family bond that I’ve grown to love.
The suspense was perfect! It kept me on the edge of my seat, but still let me sleep at night. You’ll just have to wait until you finish this book because it’s un-put-down-able!!
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.
Content: cops gone bad, corrupt organization, suspense, physical abuse, mild violence, swoony romance, strong family bonds, protective hero, strobe heroine, kisses.
Love, Loves, Loved this book!
I couldn’t wait to start reading every time I put it down.
Paige Edwards is now a must follow and I look forward to reading more of her work.
I just reviewed Skye Fall by Paige Edwards. #SkyeFall #NetGalley
This is a great addition to the Pressley-Coombes series! It has some pretty intense themes, but it deals with them respectfully and considerately. Ben is such a fun character and Isla is just perfect! My one draw back was that this book jumped around a little more than the others and it threw me off a few times. I also thought everything Isla did was a little too convenient in its interconnecting. But truly a delightful read!
Skye Fall is a fast, well paced romantic suspense novel. Isla Montjoy is a nurse who goes into hiding when she learns her new boyfriend is mixed up in a corruption. Unfortunately he is a police detective and he doesn’t want any witnesses. His first attack almost kills her. While hiding in the HIghlands she meets Ben-Presseley-Coombes. They meet again when his father has a climbing accident and she is his nurse. Ben at first is a bit pompous and he has his own worries going on with major theft at his family business. But his instinct is to protect Isla.
I enjoyed the story, the mysteries and romance. I have read a novella by the author previously and a book she has co-authored with others. I was happy to pick up my first full length novel from Paige Edwards. This is a clean book except for physical peril. It is a part of a series of romances about the Presley-Coombes but can be read as a stand alone. Ben’s siblings from the other books make appearances here. Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for the ARC and I am leaving a voluntary review. (4.5 Stars)
2.5 stars Skye is one of my favourite places and I love romantic suspense so I was really looking forward to reading this book. I loved reading about all of the places I have visited and liked how the story started out. Unfortunately they left Skye and went to America which I didn’t expect. I found Isla’s speech quite formal at times, but as she came from a well to do family I suppose it was to be expected. There is a lot of talk of God in this book and I’m sorry it just wasn’t for me. I did manage to get almost half way through as I liked the concept, but this book just wasn’t for me. I also didn’t realize it was part of series.
This book is so good. Isla has been through a lot in the last two years and has been in hiding. Her meeting with Richard and Ben Pressely-Coombs is very fortuitous. They are both interested in helping her after they find out why she has been hiding and from whom. This book is a thrill ride from beginning to end. I loved that the characters each had something to work out in their lives. I also loved their faith filled journeys. I would highly recommend this book.
As usual Paige is a magician with word that she blends into stories thank make you fall in love with the characters and feel as if you are right there with those characters.
Unlike other books I've read this one touched me deeply with it's subplot about abuse both physical and mental. It endeared me to Isla even more and I feel like I truly know her. Ben also has his own demons and I felt deeply for him as he face the obstacles stacked against him.
Honestly, this is a fascinating book with both settings in the UK and the US which makes me long for one: to return for a visit to Virginia, and two: to finally visit Scotland like I've wanted to do since I was a little girl.
Skye Fall is a very well written romantic suspense. I throughly enjoyed the plot and character dynamics. I recommend this book.
I read this book in 1 day because I couldn't put down. I was drawn to the book because of the name Skye Fall, and the story began in one of my favorite place in the world, the Isle of Skye in Scotland, a place where I've actually visited and fell in love with. I love stories set in Scotland, and this book did not disappoint!!! Right from the beginning, I was hooked. It began with action that had my heart beating fast, then as I continued to read, the story just kept getting better and better!! There was danger, stalking, embezzlement, and betrayal, but friendship, a little romance, kindness, generosity, and God's love and grace all mixed into a great story that I highly recommend!!! I found this book to be fast-paced, interesting, with great characters, and a storyline that kept me turning every page because I had to know what was going to happen, but when I finished it, I felt even closer to the Lord because of this is also a beautiful story of redemption, but I won't spoil it for you all. I highly recommend it, and literally give it 5 out of 5 stars. I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series, and more from this author!! What a great book!!!
Isla Montjoy is a registered nurse who had been dating a police officer, Shay, for about 6 weeks, so she decides to surprise him on his birthday by bringing a cake to his apartment. She is the one who gets surprised as she finds out he is knee deep in corruption, and she ends up overhearing something that leads him to attack her, and leave her for dead. Once Shay learns Isla didn't die in the attack, he goes after her to finish what he started, so that forces Isla to go on the run, which leads her to the Isle of Skye in Scotland, and where she gets a job as a nurse in a hospital there.
Ben Presley-Coombs, an American who helps his father Richard Presley-Coombs run their family business, decides to take his dad on a climbing trip in the highlands of Scotland, on the Isle of Skye. While there, his dad has a bad fall, and ends up at the hospital Isla works as, and also as Isla's patient. That was not the first time Ben met Isla, but I won't spoil that, but after a rocky start, Ben hopes that after they leave Scotland he won't have to see her again...but things tend not to always work out as planned, and he finds himself literally thrown together with Isla, and together they must face the deadly threat as Shay will not give up until Isla is dead. But I don't want to give any spoilers, but this book was so good, and I highly recommend it! After I finished it, I literally thought, "What a great story!"
I don’t read a lot of contemporary books, but this one intrigued me and I decided to give it a shot. I’ve heard great things about this authors work and I’m happy to say I was not disappointed with this story. The suspense from several different storylines kept this story rolling and there was enough romantic tension to make me satisfied. Overall I would recommend this story if you like suspense, mystery, and a small romance. Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This was my first book by Paige Edwards and while I'm not much of a thriller genre fan, this book was great. I loved that she added romance to the mix, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much.
I just reviewed Skye Fall by Paige Edwards. #SkyeFall #NetGalley
Loved it! It was hard to put down. The characters were very personable and I loved how they interacted together. I liked this one so much I purchase some of the first in the series.
Thank you for an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review. These opinions are my own.
A great read! The story was packed full of a thriller, love, and healing. The author did an excellent job of weaving the storyline together and telling the personal stories of each characters as they integrated together as one.
Skye Fall was a suspenseful read that I was interested in from the first chapter. I really liked the family dynamics of the Pressley - Combes. I didn’t realize this was part of a series but it could be read without reading the others. I would like to go back and read the others now. I did like faith aspect to the story, however I did not like the reason that Shay used for why Isla was wanted, with desecrating relics or churches ( this wasn’t true, just a lie). The lie bugged me why they had to use that excuse when they could have used something else. Overall, besides this I did enjoy the book!
I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley and was not required to write a review.
"Skye Fall" was a very good discovery for me. Thrillers are not usually my kind of book, but I was in the mood for it and intrigued by its summary, and I don't regret picking it — my only regret is not having read the previous books in the series yet, for they seem just as good!
Contrary to what the title and cover might make you think, most of the book doesn't take place in Skye, Scotland. Forget the mountains, moors, lochs, etc., we see little of it in the book, save for the first couple of chapters.
Isla Moore, after being attacked and left her dead by her corrupt policeman of a boyfriend, hides in Skye, where she tries to resume a normal life. This is also where she meets Ben Pressley-Coombes, a young, wealthy American with problems of his own... When danger looms over Isla, Ben comes to the rescue—without really knowing how much danger Isla finds herself in—and takes her away.
Overall, it's a great book, with a good balance between romance and thriller. The preface is a little dark and gruesome—and I thought to myself, if the whole book is like this, it might be a little too much for me! But the rest of the book goes at a more sedate pace, and is is really not as scary. The book follows Isla and Ben's lives and struggles, but also the life of the corrupt policeman, so at least we had an idea of where we was and when he might strike next.
I wasn't a big fan of seeing the policeman's side, because there was nothing to like there. He's a despicable person, and I wish his deepest convictions and motives would have been a bit more developed so I could understand him—but I just couldn't. It's a shame, because understanding what goes on behind crazy people's mind (or even having a touch of empathy towards them) sometimes help to understand the incomprehensible. There were more than one villain in this book, and I didn't feel anything except disgust towards them, although I wish I had a slightly more nuanced, more humane view.
Otherwise, I really enjoyed the main protagonists. They're kind, caring, strong and vulnerable, and looked pretty much realistic to me. They have a sweet romance where they don't realise they love each other until they do. More deep dialogues might have made their connection feel even more real.
There was quite a bit of talk about religion and letting God heal, etc. As a non-religious person, this wasn't my favourite part, but coming from a personal experience from the author, I could understand why this was so important to her.
Overall, a nice romance/thriller that made me want to discover the rest of the series.
*I received an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion*
This read felt so real, like everything that was happening was true, sadly, evil is trying to prevail!
This is a read that is full of action, and you will not know whom will survive to the end!
Innocently not wanting to do wrong, and being in the wrong spot at the wrong time, and we begin a journey that crosses the Atlantic.
A young woman Isla, is on the run after her attempted murder, she desperately wants to protect her family, and lives under an assumed name, and she never feels safe, proven when she meets Ben!
Ben is in Scotland attempting a climb with his Dad, and in the end Isla comes to their aid.
Journey with the threat of evil hanging over her head, and how a relationship forms between these two individuals, but can it survive?
This is a page turning read, that will have you holding your breath. It is also a Christian read, and I felt the inspiration!
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Covenant Communications, and was not required to give a positive review.
This book brings you right in to the suspense right away! Isla is in the wrong place at the wrong table me and is running for her life. Hiding and using a false name is the only way to protect her family.
When a job offer presents itself, giving her another chance to hide in a place they might not find her, she takes it.
Ben Presley-Coombs is celebrating his father's birthday by Rick climbing in Europe. When an accident lands them in the hospital, bringing his father's nurse home was not in the plans.
A very good read and enjoyable all the way through.
Although I usually don't care for contemporary mysteries, this story definitely captured my attention. Despite a few implausible details, the author did a good job developing them and making them likeable. She wove in other characters well from her previous stories (one of which I think I have read). And she did a nice job sprinkling in British, Scottish, and American elements.
Fans of contemporary mysteries are likely to enjoy this story. While it is a religious mystery, I thought that the religious elements added rather than distracted from the story. I will say that there are elements of domestic violence, so if that is a content consideration, be aware.
Thank you Netgalley and publisher for the free e-arc in exchange for my honest review.
A new to me author and I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It’s a mystery/thriller, which I read occasionally. I loved her description of Scotland and Virginia, where the book takes place and I was hooked on the story from the beginning, having no idea how it was all going to play out. I liked that it wasn’t overly dramatic, and the main characters had to lean on God to figure out their trauma. Well done. If faith, romance, and mystery is your cup of tea, this book would be as well.
