I've historically always passed on daily devotionals because of how short they are designed to be and how even the most well-written always leave me wanting more. I love that Jackie and I share this sentiment and that she wrote this devotional with the intention of diving deeper. Each day has enough to chew on, but not so much that you feel like you read an entire chapter. This was the second book of hers I've read and again I thoroughly enjoyed her poetic writing, despite not being a poetry fan myself! Very giftable, and I'd highly recommend getting yourself or a friend a copy!
The 60-day length is fantastic, though some days of content are shorter than others. Unlike many other devos, there are no reflection questions, Scriptures listed for further reading, space for journaling, etc. Each entry simply includes a verse followed by a reflection/writing from Jackie. It's certainly bite-sized and do-able 'upon waking' each morning . . . it could certainly be incorporated into a busy schedule. That said, the brevity of each day left me wanting more. Not a bad thing -- to want more Scripture -- but a little bit strange to put down a *devotional* and wish it included more Scripture (even just the surrounding verses for the day instead of one verse and a couple paragraphs from Jackie).
A good devotional!! I enjoyed it. Definitely has some challenges for all.of us, which is just what I want from a devotional! That's the whole point of reading one, is it not? To grow in the Lord.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the advance e-copy of this book! All opinions expressed are entirely my own.
