Holmes, Marple & Poe by James Patterson and Brian Sitts was a good series added to the James Patterson catalog. I love both Alex Cross and Michael Bennett series and I hope this book becomes a series as great as those are. This first book definitely did not disappoint.

I received a review copy of this book from the author/publisher through NetGalley for my honest review. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.

A great read and hopefully start to a long series! The characters are colorful and fascinating. There is the three main names and a few others that I would classify as central to the story such as Detective Grey. No one is who they seem and there are questions or backstory twists with everyone. Relationships and connections are central to the story…and animals become family. I love that the story has several cases, plus personal matters, being covered at once. The ending is full of surprises and a great potential for future books where we can learn more about everyone!

The New Year brings us Holmes, Marple & Poe - a new book from James Patterson and Brian Sitts.

So, I bet you're thinking it's a detective book? Yes, it is! The book features three private detectives, all sporting very familiar last names. But, no one knows them or where they've come from. I love how the authors have given our three protagonists both the skill sets - and the weaknesses - of each fictional sleuth.

The book is set in modern day New York City. Perfect, as there's loads of room for many cases. Patterson and Sitts have written quite a few crimes that keep our private eyes quite busy. Some cases are larger than others, but I enjoyed the solving of each and every one. They use new technologies along with the old - observations, deductions, conversations, memory and more.

Short chapters and fast dialogues are found in all of Patterson's books and this latest is no different. Added in is a burgeoning romance. And the fourth character and supporting player in the book is a NYC Detective. It's very easy to throw your support between Holmes, Marple and Poe. And just as easy to dislike the antagonists.

Holmes, Marple and Poe was an easy entertaining read. I do hope there are plans for this book to be the first in a series.

Three private investigators with names of literary fame, but who are they really? The three partners solve a series of crimes that interweave and overlap and connect to each other in a similar fashion to the adventures of the original Holmes. The short chapters often end on cliffhangers and keep it intriguing.

Holmes, Marple & Poe by James Patterson and Brian Sitts was a thrilling story featuring iconic detectives in a modern setting. The collaboration between the characters brought a refreshing twist to the crime-solving genre. The dynamic storytelling and clever incorporation of classic elements showcase the authors' creativity. While not perfect due to occasional pacing issues, this book is a delightful tribute to literary legends and deserves a solid four stars for its ingenuity and homage to timeless detectives. My fingers are crossed that this becomes a new Patterson series!

I would like to thank NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company for allowing me to read an ARC of this book.

I have to start by saying I am not a huge fan of James Patterson; I have a read a few of his novels here and there, but as a whole I don't tend to pick them up to read. When I came across this one, however, I was intrigued by the premise enough to give it a chance. And I'm glad I did! I was a very unique and enjoyable read. Detective-thriller lovers, and fans of Sherlock Holmes, Agatha Christie & Edgar Allan Poe should put this on their TBR's ASAP. You won't be disappointed!

The three main characters are none other than the infamous (Brendan) Holmes, Miss/Ms. (Margaret) Marple & (Auguste) Poe, 3 PIs with a lot of personalities, vices and traits in common with their famous literary namesakes. They are very good at what they do, and throughout the plot of the book manage to solve a disappearance, a heist, a kidnapping, and even a decades-old murder that occurred in their office building. They make a lot of waves and enemies along the way, though.

The chapters are short but pack a punch, the plot is fast-paced, and the characters are quirky and loveable. The addition of Helene Grey, a no-nonsense detective and love interest; Virginia, an assistant; Annabel as a rescued live-in black office cat; and a rescued courier doggo add to the entertaining-ness of the story. There are many great literary nods and subtle tongue-in-cheek references sprinkled throughout. I really enjoyed it and hope there are follow-up books in the works!

I will definitely be recommending this book to my book club and to my Library patrons and coworkers!

This is actually the first book I’ve read by James Patterson and Brian Sitts. I’m obsessed with Sherlock Holmes, Poe and Agatha Christie! I was so excited to get this book. The short chapters are my absolute favorite and I loved the formatting of the book. I love the three main characters and I loved the chapters had their different perspectives. They were so fun together. I loved the mystery solving aspect of the book. I thought the action was fast paced and fun. I loved the writing. It just had all the feels for me. I would definitely be interested in checking out other books like this.

I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys classic mysteries set in present day!

As a member of James Patterson’s street team, I received this ARC in return for my honest review.

I absolutely loved it! Holmes, Marple, & Poe is such a fun read. Brendan Holmes, Margaret Marple, and Auguste Poe are a team of brilliant PIs and take you on a journey to solve their cases.

The reader gets to experience the story/cases from each perspective allowing for the characters’ individual personalities to shine.

This is the kind of book that will make you want to ignore your responsibilities and just dive in. I cannot wait to read more of their adventures.

Thank you James Patterson, NetGalley, and Little Brown for allowing me to enjoy this sneak peek. I will be telling everyone I know to read it!

With half a dozen concurrent cases, this first in what is likely to be a new series, is a never stopping, page-turning mystery. Even the three titular characters are a mystery. Readers looking for a superficial, entertaining read will enjoy this co-authored Patterson novel, especially those who are familiar with the authors referenced in the title as there are multiple "Easter eggs" dropped throughout. The book does lack for depth as it's spread thin over so many cases, and more time seems to be spent describing Poe's car collection than adding any emotional depth of the three PIs. A little bit icky for sensitive readers when describing the victims.

This books has some new characters from Patterson and they are some interesting individuals. Holmes, Poe, and Marple are PIs. They get themselves tangled up in multiple police cases and piss off some people. Curious to see if this will be a continued series. Not my favorite, but an entertaining, quick read

A fun read! Holmes, Marple & Poe are brilliant detectives who struggle with their internal demons while they solve multiple crimes. The well-developed characters, each with their own individual quirks, make for an interesting read as they follow the twists and turns in the story. Hopefully there will be more to this series

Thank you to NetGalley and Little, Brown and Company who provided me with a copy of this book. I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

(3.5 rounded up)

I received a complimentary ARC copy of Holmes, Marple & Poe, by James Patterson and Brian Sitts, #Thriller #Mystery from Net Galley and Little, Brown and Company/Hachette Book Group in order to read and give an honest review.

"…Holmes, Marple & Poe was a very quick and fun read which pays homage to beloved characters…"

True to James Patterson’s thrill a minute style, Holmes, Marple, & Poe, by James Patterson and Brian Sitts is a fast-paced thriller inspired by characters from classic mysteries by authors Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, Agatha Christie, and features a character based on the author himself, Edgar Allan Poe.

In modern day New York City, we meet three private detectives with infamous names and hidden pasts who open “Holmes, Marple & Poe Investigations” in a historical bakery infamous for the mysterious disappearance of an assistant in 1954.

We meet the heroes on a high after solving a high profile case that was splashed over the news, an impressed NYPD Detective Helene Grey, impressed by their success requests their assistance on what starts as an art theft and then jumps to several altogether unrelated crimes including the kidnapping of a wealthy father and his teenage step-daughter and a mass grave in the subway tunnels of New York. All of the cases are independent of each other but each one offers our sleuths a challenge.

To be honest I used to be a huge fan of Patterson’s but have drifted away over the past few years and I really wanted to love this book. Being a fan of the mystery genre, the title and description made me so incredibly eager to dive in, but although with its merits it really didn’t quite hit the mark for me. The positives right off the bat, I did enjoy the homage Patterson and Sitts paid to the beloved characters, especially Margaret Marple, who in this incarnation is a younger, and more streetwise version of Agatha Christie’s famous detective who is graced with the keen power of observation. As for the other two leads, Brandon Holmes and Auguste Poe, although true to their reputations in terms of quirks, they felt oddly interchangeable in parts, feeling more like they were flexing more machismo than intellect. However, with the clever combination of all three in addition to other characters such as their office manager Virginia and Detective Grey the characters drove the story enjoyable and even the culprits. Now onto the negatives, my biggest complaint was the multiple crimes (I believe, there were six in total) that although they did offer a thrill a minute and were resolved at the end, they all felt disjointed and better suited to a crime-procedural tv series than in a book where they felt lackluster and disappointing for the lack of better terms.

In conclusion to sum it up, “Holmes, Marple & Poe” was a very quick and fun read which pays homage to beloved characters (and an author who was a character himself) all of whom are responsible for many readers and writers falling in love with the mystery genre. Since reading is very subjective in my opinion if you are looking for a quick entertaining read this is it, but if you’re looking for something that’s complex, intelligent, and daring, this might not be for you.

A group of private investigators band together to solve crimes that the police cannot seem to do; the PI's are always one step ahead of the police and work quickly to figure it out. So many different stories combined into one book! And each character (Holmes, Marple & Poe) holds their own secret.

Thank you netgalley, the publisher and author for my ARC!

This is a standard Patterson push: NYPD, detection, a twist, some thrills. It isn't bad, I just tend to avoid Patterson books overall. IT was an enjoyable read that played honor to 3 of the fiction world's best detectives.

Really enjoyed this novel about these 3 private investigators who live in Brooklyn. Lots of plot twist with the multiple cases they solved. Characters were real with serious flaws. I hope this is the start of a new series. Thanks NetGalley for the advanced copy. #NetGalley #HolmesMissMarpleandPoeInvestigations

Holmes, Marple, & Poe, by James Patterson and Brian Sitts, is a twisted story featuring some very familiar names straight out of the works of the best mysteries of Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle, Agatha Christie, and Edgar Allan Poe. In New York City, three intriguing, smart, and stylish private investigators open Holmes, Marple & Poe Investigations in a building that used to be the sight of a bakery. A bakery where a mystery waits to be investigated. Who are these detectives with famous names and mysterious, untraceable pasts?

Brendan Holmes—The Brain: Identifies suspects via deduction and logic. He has an acute sense of smell, and takes after his namesake, Sherlock Holmes, by being addicted to heroin. Margaret Marple—The Eyes: Possesses powers of observation too often underestimated. Margaret may have a perfect memory as well. Auguste Poe—The Muscle: Chases down every lead no matter how dangerous or dark. Auguste loves his classic cars like the 1966 Pontiac GTO. The identity of Holmes, Margaret, and Poe remains an elusive puzzle, adding an extra layer of mystery to a story that has six different mysteries to resolve.

But let's not forget about the fourth member of Holmes, Marple, and Poe, and that would be Virginia, the office manager, who can solve almost any problem, including predicting what everyone needs at all the right moments. She fits in nicely, and even offers her own brand of assistance, as well as helping solve a death from 1954 in the building they now own. The agency’s daring methodology and headline-making solves attract the attention of NYPD Detective Helene Grey, who once worked for the FBI.

Her solo investigation into her three unknowable competitors who seem to have no background that she can trace back to see if they are real, or just hoodlums looking for a way to get in her way. She is also the only cop who falls in bed with one of the the investigators. The team’s first cases is that of Sloane Stone an attorney who disappeared. The second case is that of Huntley Bain who claims that someone told some priceless art from him.

As with almost every single James Patterson novel, the chapters are short, and the book flows from beginning to end. Each chapter deals with one of the main characters' complex personalities as well as the disappearance of people and how it is solved. The supporting characters add to the story that makes it so much more interesting. The authors have left an open ending to this story which I hope indicates that there might be a sequel in the not-to-distant future.

This book is very different for James Patterson. It features three intriguing and smart private investigators open Holmes, Marple & Poe Investigations. They are:

Brendan Holmes—The Brain: Identifies suspects through deduction and logic.

Margaret Marple—The Eyes: Possesses powers of observation.

Auguste Poe—The Muscle: Chases down every lead no matter how dangerous.

Where did these people come from and how do they solve crimes? It was not my favorite of Patterson books.
