Hubert is the bastard of a medieval Baron, a serf, a natural fighter and a big, big man who is good at heart. This is the story of his rise from simple serf to knight, to gentleman and to Baron of Fosbottom. Hubert’s life is filled with challenges, travels, danger, pirates, royals and romance. He is the target of an infamous evil bully, Hugh Despenser the Younger. He learns much throughout his life and brings his unique perspective and skills to many situations.

I thoroughly enjoyed this 14 century tale of this unique character. I laughed, held my breath, felt sad and cheered as I read. Though a short book, it packed a punch! Historical fiction lovers will enjoy this.

"Nevertheless" by Peter S. Glick promises readers a delightful journey back in time to the medieval era, a period of knights, castles, and formidable female royalty. This historical fiction novel appears to blend real history with imaginative storytelling, offering a lively, humorous, and adventurous narrative.

The description introduces us to an intriguing protagonist, an outsized hero who begins life as a serf but quickly rises through the ranks. His ability to win the favor of both the men he leads and the women he champions hints at a charismatic and multifaceted character.

The mention of working alongside the Queen and facing one of Britain's notorious depraved characters adds an element of intrigue and conflict to the story. It suggests that the novel will explore not only the hero's personal journey but also the larger historical context and the challenges he must overcome.

Overall, "Nevertheless" appears to be a captivating blend of history, humor, and adventure. Readers who enjoy stories set in medieval times, with strong and unconventional characters, are likely to find this book an engaging and entertaining read. It promises to transport readers to a vividly recreated past while offering a fresh twist on familiar historical events.

Nevertheless by Peter Glick is a fun and relatively easy read. This story of medieval Europe moves quickly and is compelling enough that it becomes hard to put down. The characters are consistent and clearly drawn as far as behavior and motivation (and mostly believable), the settings well placed.

My one complaint - which I have for most well-written historical fiction - is the difficulty distinguishing between the true history and the fiction. So much of it is accurate - kudos on the research that went into the book - that I found myself looking things up to determine what was real.

The bottom line: a good read and well worth the effort.

I like the writing style. I almost think Baron Hubert was a real person, based on archives that was mentioned in this book.
However, this book wasn't my cup of tea. Almost in every chapter the author mention about MC's physical traits. I get it, the MC is tall, big and handsome. But should I be reminded about it (almost) all of the time? I guess not. Also, his tendency to 'unseath his sword from his scabard' kind of annoying either.
Overall, this book is a decent read. I will recommend it to someone who like action packed medieval setting historical fiction with badass MC.

And interesting and funny romp into comedy and some history. The language is a bit heavy handed, and the language of the English court until Edward III was Norman French, but since this book doesn’t pretend to be historically accurate, it’s ok.
