This boom started strong and the first couple of pages were very addictive. I think people who are parents will likely enjoy this book. For me it was a 3/5 star read.

Such an interesting and in some ways a refreshing concept to write about failure rather than success. I’m sure Eleanor Elliott Thomas had some direct experience of the failure to get the promotion that seemed to be guaranteed as the emotions were raw and visceral from the feedback interview with her boss through to how to tell everyone else that you weren’t successful. The real question of course is what is success in this world.? This is all set a backdrop of of climate change protests and a that reminded me a little of Eleanor Caton’s Birnam Wood. Pitched throughout this is the struggle that so many working mothers face of why run after promotions when the satisfaction of staying home and enjoying children is far more satisfying. I’m sure that many readers will feel heard in the underlying issue of The Opposite of Success. I wasn’t a huge fan of her characters but then I’m not sure I would be in real life anyway.
