Sometimes people are not what they seem, and that's definitely true in this new book by Kathryn Croft.
Told in before and now chapters letting you learn the history of the main characters Emily and Christian, and a secret one wants exposed the other not.
The storyline is a strong one making this a thrilling and suspenseful page turner with strong characters that keeps you guessing throughout, gripping from the start, with an ending that left me stunned bringing the story to a brilliant conclusion.
Recommended.
Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
Emily is about to marry her husband on a sun-kissed Greek island. It’s the beginning of a new life for her where her dark past can no longer touch her. But as the vows have been said, the first married kiss has been shared and the guests are clapping, Emily spots a guest in the congregation who wasn’t invited. Someone who can easily destroy her new life, release the secrets she’s kept for so long. Something Emily can’t allow to happen.
I found this book started strongly and I was hooked straightaway. The pace dipped slightly in the middle but it had a strong ending with a great twist. I would rate this book 3.5 stars. Thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture and the author for the chance to review.
This is not a comfy cozy book with characters you will love. But it’s written so well that you fall into the story and have to read it!
This had my jaw on the ground!!! What a book. Its a domestic noir but at the highest level. The atmosphere is tense and you never quite know what's going to happen next. The reveals were utterly genius and I did not see most of them coming so couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. The characters are well written and established, they have personalities and are complete characters. And the plot.... you think it's going to be one thing but you will never see these twists and turns coming! What a wild ride and I loved every second
The truth is at stake. Will it be revealed or remain hidden? This wad a wild, wild ride that had me totally glued from start to finish. Loved the twists as this thriller unfolded.
I've read a lot of thrillers in my.time and at first look I thought I had the.plot figured out. Turns out I was so wrong. The twists and turns this book takes you on will have you questioning who Emily is and what she has done and how she will cope with her situation.
I did find a few parts of the book slow paced and felt myself wishing it would speed up a bit but by the end i couldnt put it down.
Definetly a must read if you love thrillers.
Another great book from Kathryn Croft, and thanks netgalley for allowing me to read an early copy of this book.
Emily was getting married to a most wonderful man who she adored and also a stepdaughter her dreams were coming true and she was so happy. The wedding was wonderful, but as they took their vows she looked round and saw an unexpected guest.
Christian Holmes’ was at her wedding someone she hoped never to see again, he knew her past what was he doing at her wedding, it was not good news, Emily was not as perfect as her new husband thought.
This was a good read though it got a. Bit slow in the middle and then hurtled onto to a great climax.
This was such an unpredictable thriller
I thought it was one story but it turned
On its head. Such a well written and paced story
One of the best books this year for me.
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Thank you @NetGalley and @bookouture for sending me this book for review consideration. All opinions are my own.
A man Emily hasn’t seen in fifteen years shows up at her wedding seeking revenge. He has vowed to destroy her life for something she did in the past. Can she keep her secrets and still have the life she’s dreamed of? Not if Christian has his way.
This story rehashes the popular - “there’s a secret in my past that must remain hidden at all costs” trope, but the ending was a surprise.
The plot had me hooked. I wanted to keep reading to find out what the secret was and if Christian was going to destroy Emily’s marriage before it even started. The big drawback was that the main characters weren’t likeable. I loved Emily’s new husband and stepdaughter, but it was hard to connect with Emily since she was hiding so much from them. I didn’t like her very much, and Christian was even worse.
Readers who must connect with a character in order to enjoy a book might not enjoy this one since the characters are difficult to connect with. This will appeal to readers who love shocking twists, since this took a common trope and gave us an ending that was a complete surprise.
For me, this was a three-star story until the end. The pacing was good, but the characters didn’t click for me. The surprise twist at the end is what pushed this to a four star rating.
This is another great domestic thriller by Kathryn Croft. I was drawn in from page 1 and raced through to get to the end.
The ending had an unexpected twist that I enjoyed. It’s a really good read and one that I’ll certainly recommend.
The Wedding Guest starts out idyllic and quickly descends into a nightmare.
While getting married, Emily spots her dangerous ex, a man she thought she had completely erased from her life. She had completely changed her life to escape from him. He begins to make a scene after the wedding, with veiled threats - including ones to expose Emily's secrets - which she must hide to keep her new life intact.
The book is suspenseful and anxiety producing.
Wow what a rollercoaster of a read! This story captured my interest from the very first page and had it till the very end. The only thing I was disappointed about was that it ended. Highly recommend.
Well, I’ve finished this book and then just had to sit with it for a while to process the whole thing. At the beginning of the book I felt very uncomfortable and wasn’t sure if I could keep reading it. The main character, Emily, was just so naive and there were red flags being thrown up everywhere in her relationship with Christian. If you feel like you can’t keep reading, my recommendation is to push through and keep going because you will read a story you won’t be able to believe. There is a twist in the end that you will never guess in a million years and it will make you realise how easy it is to believe someone’s story when you’re only hearing it from one point of view. I still feel in shock and can’t believe how well the story was written. I noticed that Kathryn Croft, the author, has written other books too, so these will definitely go on my TBR list.
Emily is very happy that her wedding day has finally arrived and she will marry Jeremy.
After the ceremony she sees Christian her former boyfriend in the congregation and she tries not to panic. They have a shared secret that could ruin her newfound happiness and he’s willing to tell everyone unless he does what he tells her.
A slow moving story about secret and lies that keeps you guessing.
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for my e-copy in exchange for an honest review.
This is a novel full of surprises, it had me fooled more than once! It took me a while to get into it but I'm glad I persisted with it. It's a geat read with a gut puch near the end!
A gripping novel that had me on the edge of my seat until the end, Well constructed characters. I definitely couldn't have anticipated the ending. Wow!
Lying to someone is never a good start. You constantly look over your shoulder because when there is a person out there who knows what you are hiding, there is always a chance the truth will come out.
There are different kinds of reasons why people kill someone. It can be out of revenge or simply because there are humans who enjoy doing this despicable deed. Those are absolutely totally no nos because they are premeditated. They are planned and thought about and still the killer went through with it.
And then there are the crimes of passion. Someone or certain actions make you see red and you just loose it. Of course this is not done either, but I feel like you can understand the reasoning behind it.
This kind of abuse can mess with your head and you feel obliged to take control, often no matter how or what.
Some say people never change or not completely at least. I can agree with that, but when someone has demonstrated they have behaved for already 15 years now, I think you can say they do have changed.
And still someone feels like they have to dredge everything up again. I can see their point. Justice has to be brought to the victims, but maybe they forget they hurt even more people in the process?
I enjoyed this story very much. The author alternates the past and the present and she had me completely fooled the whole time. :) 5 stars
Thank you
This should be the happiest day of Emily's life. She is marrying her love, Jeremy, and is excited to be his daughter, Lexi's new stepmother. Everything is perfect until she notices an uninvited wedding guest. Christian is from her past, a past she had put far behind her and forgotten. Christian, however, has not forgotten and he is determined to make Emily pay for her mistakes.
I'm not quite sure what my issue was with this book. I enjoyed it, but it didn't grip me. The writing and pace were fine. The ending was not what I expected and was satisfying. I think I just didn't connect with any of the characters, I felt no emotion for anyone and that probably made it difficult for me to finish it quickly. I have enjoyed Kathryn Croft's other novels, and look forward to reading more.
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review.
Firstly I would like to thank netgalley and Bookoutune and the great author Kathryn croft for an early copy of her book.
This is Emily wedding day to Jeremy and he has a daughter Lexi, all she wants is to be happy with her family on her wedding an uninvited guest arrives Christian who says he is a friend of Emily.why does she want him to leave the wedding..Emily and Christian have a past..a psychological read.my rating is 3.5 rounded to four a fantastic easy read just the build up to the ending wasnt as thrilling as I thought it would be...looking forward to reading more of her books.
This book will be reviewed on goodreads and Amazon uk.
A gripping, psychological thriller which kept me up well into the night.
Emily is marrying the man of her dreams and becoming stepmother to his ten year led daughter. However, the appearance at her wedding of an old flame, causes her fear and panic. He knows something which will destroy her and the life she’s created and it appears that he will stop at nothing.
From the opening pages of the book, there’s clearly something very wrong and I had my heart in my mouth. Christian constantly threatens to reveal “the secret” but when that finally happens towards the end of the book, it turns out that there was not one incident, but two, and that neither character is who they appear to be.
I really enjoyed the suspenseful nature of the book and liked the constant shifting between “then” and “now”. However I found the twist with regards to the characters a bit too unbelievable. I understand what the author was trying to do, but looking back at the storyline, I didn’t see any clues which would lead to that conclusion.
I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
