It took me a little while to get into, but it was such an interesting story! The concept was incredibly cool and unique. I thoroughly enjoyed all the characters and especially the relationship between Yasir and Zahra.

Neverwraith is epic paranormal young adult fiction from Shakir Rashaan.

Yasir Salah has just started a new high school and met a beautiful young classmate. Hazel-green eyed beauty, Zahra Assante, is confused by her feelings for Yasir. These two are about to begin a wonderful new phase in their lives.

Shakir Rashaan may be new to the young adult genre, but he’s not new to excellent writing and storytelling. He started with characters that are who many teens/young adults might want to be or be like. Rashaan continues with superb worldbuilding. He’s imagined a place that’s fantastical but might just be on the map. His writing style is bold but reader-friendly. The plot is intriguing. There’s even a romance to add to the drama. It all comes together in a 5 out of 5 stars read that’s sure to engage not just the young adult reader but all lovers of sci-fi/fantasy. I’ll definitely be eagerly awaiting the next book in what promises to be an epic series.

My thanks to Entangled Publishing, LLC, Entangled Amara, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance copy of this book. However, the opinions expressed in this review are 100% mine and mine alone.

I will be honest. I had a really hard time getting into this book. I will admit, I am in my 30’s but I like reading Ya/na.
I was really excited be I found the premise really interesting, but between the slang and the instant love I could not get into the story line and I end. I will try and go back and finish another time. If I do I will update my review.

Neverwraith by Shakir Rashaan is an excellent paranormal YA book I really enjoyed.

I really like that the main character is male, I feel that is not done very often and I enjoyed reading his point of view. Learnning what he is and what he is destined for was really exciting to me.

As someone who has anxiety, I also really applaud the author for including anxiety in all its forms in the book.

The world building is excellent and the author's story telling was perfectly paced.

The characters were well developed and fleshed out.

I am really hoping there are more books in this series. This is one not to miss.

Thank you to Entangled Publishing for the review copy.

2.75/5 stars! Hmm...what to say about this story? The cover is purple, which is cool? Some younger readers may appreciate it. But there was nothing about this story that made it stand out as a new or unique idea. This just felt more like a middle school read, than a determined YA story. It felt young and underdeveloped. Would possibly check out the sequel to see if it improves.

I received a free copy of this book via NetGalley and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Welcome to a new year, welcome to a new school.. or so that’s how it is for Yasir as he starts at a new Georgia high school. But that isn’t all that’s new, Yasir is changing completely. He feels his skin crawling and his eyes are changing. Is it the new town or school that’s doing this to him or is there something much more about himself he’s never learned.

I sort of had mixed feeling reading this. It was different than what I typically pick but interesting enough. There was a lot of repetition throughout the story that just made it drag for me. It’s sort of the “chosen one” type stories, and as I liked some of the plot and Yasir, I found myself not liking some of the characters or development.

So if you’re looking for something different with a unique voice, look no further. It’s really either hit or miss!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Absolutely loved it!! I’m hooked I can’t wait to find out what happens next. The author did such a lovely job with visuals I could picture everything so clearly. I really liked the slang he incorporated from this generation I really flowed through this book so easily. Definitely pick this up! You won’t be disappointed. Yasir can’t hold his anger tho..

When I read the blurb I thought about The Extraordinaires (I loved that series) but it was just an impression as this is an original and well plotted novel that wishing I could read the next story soon.
Yasir had to leave Atlanta and move to a small town with his uncles. Something his happening and some powers are developing. His uncle his helping him but there's still a lot of questions and I want to know what will be next.
Entertaining, original, well plotted.
Recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher for this ARC, all opinions are mine

This was probably one of the cringiest werewolf books I’ve read. Stereotypical boy in high school, model of teen wolf. Not for me

Thank you to NetGalley and Entangled Teen for granting me a copy of this book in return for my honest opinions

The instant romantic attraction between Yasir and Zahra, in my opinion was a bit forced, but I enjoyed the storyline.

I felt the book took a long time to get going. It took over half the book for the story bto build before I was able to get into it thoroughly. I would really love some more paranormal action and romance!

Hoping we get that in the next book!!!

Overall, I enjoyed the book and recommend.

Shakir Rashaan's "Neverwraith" is an original entry into the field of YA Sci-Fi and Fantasy. While it - for this reader - felt like it took a little too long to clue the reader into exactly what was going on, once we got there, I didn't want to stop reading. Yasir's journey as the new kid in a new school in a new town is only compounded by his struggle with understanding what is going on inside himself. The things he encounters and goes through are a bit more than the average struggle of a new kid, but definitely cast a light on what it's like to not fit in and needing to "find your people" in a new place. I enjoyed following him on this journey, but my biggest struggle throughout the book was understanding the vocabulary used by the teens within - I felt like I needed to learn a 2nd language to understand teenage conversations.

Neverwraith is a different read for me I enjoyed the story and the premise itself and have hope the next installment will be better and I will give it a read. I am not a fan of Insta-Love romance and these 2 screamed that from the start and it didn’t feel real. I also had a hard time grasping the language used in the book it made me roll my eyes a few times and I realize it was meant to be young and modern, but it just didn’t read well for me. I do believe there is a great audience out there for this book. For me, it just didn’t give what I was hoping it would and that is ok in the end the book was good it just wasn’t for me.

Big thank you NetGalley and to the publisher for the chance to review this book pre-release. I really wanted to love this book, however I couldn't find myself invested in the character, or his "connection " to the love interest. I can't fault the book, but moreso it wasn't really meant for me. A more formal review will be available on my IG/TikTok and Goodreads.

Neverwraith is a mixed bag for me. On the one hand I love Yassir and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air vibes. Man did that take me back. I really enjoyed the story itself and believe the next installment will be better.

That being said, I didn't enjoy the insta-romance or the repetition. Most often instant connections make sense, but the way this flowed didn't, or at least not for me. It felt rushed with little believability behind it.

Also, it felt like scenarios were either being retold or rehashed in monologue right after introduction...and too often. It disrupted the flow a lot for me and I would end up just skimming through the repetition.

Overall though, this is one readers will either love or not. It's not a bad start to the series and I would love to see what happens next. If this is on your radar, grab it and give it a go.

I sincerely appreciate Entangled Teen and NetGalley for the review copy. All opinions expressed are my own.

Shakir's YA debut proves his ability to convert more people to the fantasy genre, one captivating book at a time. I love Dystopian, but "Neverwraith" was worth the leap into paranormal.
Before Neverwraith, my literary journey rarely delved into the supernatural. Yet, drawn by Shakir's reputation for crafting immersive narratives from his other books. I embraced the chance to explore a different realm. "Neverwraith" unfolds the tale of Yasir, a young man uprooted from his Atlanta home due to an unknown danger, finding refuge with his uncle in Savannah, Georgia. Amidst this unfamiliar backdrop, Yasir encounters the alluring Zahra, a girl whose attraction goes far beyond her beauty and intellect.
Rather than summarizing the plot, allow me to share my impressions as I traversed the pages of this book. From the very first chapter, it grabbed me — unable to put the book down. The words paint vivid imagery, and the meticulous world-building crafts an environment so bold that reading becomes a hologram-like experience that transported me into a realm where time and space dissolve as the narrative unfolds.
Shakir's expertise is clear. "Neverwraith" transports us to Savannah and Kindara, which evoke Wakanda's allure.
For someone with an affinity for lifelike fables and the mystical, Yasir's origin story resonated. His journey, rife with trials and tribulations, serves as a catapult on his rise toward self-discovery and greatness. Yasir's path left me wanting to know more about his past while excited to witness his further elevation.
The narrative's pace, while a little fast for me, caters to its intended audience—the youth. Shakir's language, rhythm, and flow harmonize to interest young readers, compelling them to be absorbed by the story from beginning to end. This is quintessential young adult fiction, tailor-made to captivate the younger demographic. However, older readers seeking to immerse themselves in the vernacular may revisit sections to get the full meaning.
The characters in "Neverwraith" are intriguing. Shakir makes us want to know who makes us want to know more, yet without making us too attached. Finishing the last page left me yearning for more information about their lives. As I impatiently wait for the next installment, it's apparent that this book's appeal will transcend boundaries. While it will captivate young readers from all walks of life, its magnetic pull will resonate, especially among people of color. Grab your copy today!

I absolutely adore the cover of this book. I’m for sure one of those readers that the cover the book can make a difference if I’m going to wanna read it or not. The cover is my favorite color and those claw gashes for sure is a a bold statement one what I can expect in this book.( and I was wrong)

Being the new kid is always gonna land you in it. Yasir Salah isn't like the other guys in his new suburban Georgia high school. Lately, he can feel something shifting in his body. Raw. Edgy.
Volatile . Like his eyes changing colors and heat on his skin when some alpha bro comes for him…..or how just a grin from the gorgeous, untouchable girl at school sends vibrations shooting through his entire body. Only it's not just being at a new school. It's a new town. New rules. New flow . And everything feels way smaller than his ex-life in Atlanta. All he can do is what he's been keep a low profile and try to not be noticed..and keep his anger under control. But they never warned him. They never told him what he is. And they sure as hell didn't tell him that the world is gonna need him.
This book started off on a rocky road for me, I couldn’t even tell you what the main character looked like and his love interest connection really made no sense. It happened super quickly and wasn’t really given time to marinate. And to read some of their conversations had me confused on the information they were sharing with each other. They knew each other for like 2 seconds. I wasn’t really invested in their relationship or the main character for the first 20% of the book. I found myself speeding and skipping parts to get to the meat of the story.
After soldiering on for another 10% I decided to just not finish this book. My overall opinion is that maybe I’m not this box targeted audience, I find myself getting irritated with how the dialogue a structured. I had no investments in to the characters, and I’d rather be reading a different book.
DNF

I voluntarily read and reviewed in ARC of Neverwraith. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I wanted to like this book so much, I understand the lingo used throughout but the story just wasn't there for me. If it was in a different setting, not a high school, I probably would have connected with it more-- mainly because of what the story was trying to do. There were conversations that seemed extremely out of character for an almost seventeen year old. There was A LOT of car talk throughout and between that and other repetitive sections (character says/see something then one-to-two paragraphs later they summarize what just happened) it just took me out of the book. The overarching plot line seemed cool and I'll still be interested in other work by this author, just not this book. All that to be said, this book might be a five star book for someone-- I hope it is.
