In a small Texas town, a mysterious fire set during a tornado quickly escalates into a crime.
The main characters are doing their best to stay out of the way and let the professionals handle but a mysterious dog has appeared and kept everyone involved. While everyone is trying to figure out who the dog belongs to, relationships are also being examined.
The author did a great job of mixing the mystery with romance. This was a great story on self-reflection and how times of crisis can show us what we really want and how close we can come to losing it all.
There is a lot of honest talk about PTSD and how everyday life can look for our veterans

I was lucky enough to get this book as an ARC. Another gone to the dogs mystery. What a good easy read it was. Although you could easily figure out the players in the mystery it wasn't until the very end that it all fit together, I didn't guess what was happening which for me is a strangely odd scenario but a good one. I will be getting the rest of the collection to read.

What's not to like about this book? It's based in Brenham, Texas, has dogs-- well 1 special dog named Pal, a rare tornado and a couple of bomb explosions. Also lots of folks who are not who they say they are!! Plus Nora and Lane are trying to work out a relationship. Will there be a wedding in the future? Will a bomber be exposed? And will Pal get to stay with the man who really needs him ? This one is a great read and while most of this is fiction Brenham is not and it's home to Blue Bell ice cream!! You can't beat that.

I love that this includes a dog with in the story. This had a great story line with mystery and intrigue. The character were warm and friend which helped keep the reader interested. I look forward to what else the author has to offer.

Who knew entering a series on the sixth book could be so seamless. Having read and enjoyed "New Leash on Life", I know want to go back and read all five other books in the "Gone to the Dogs" series. This novel leaned much more heavily on the love story than on the mystery which was completely fine with me. I am not a huge mystery reader so this book struck just the right balance of romance and mystery. Nora and Lane were such an interesting couple to get to know. They are relatable, cute, sweet, frustrating, and I cheered for them the entire time. The dog is so stinking cute it made me want to go and cuddle my own doggo every time I sat down to read this sweet story. I say sweet but there were definetely the fair share of sketchy characters. But once again, the mystery plot line took a back seat and really did not take center stage until about 75% way through the book.

The ending was very satisfying.... even though the random cat still has me scratching my head

Great book! A veteran with PTSD finds a battle Buddy. The relationship is life changing and makes it easy to get involved with the characters of this book.

New Leash on life is #6 in this series and I had no issues following the story even though I had not read any of the other books in the series. I am sure if I would have read the others I would have understood the back story of the other characters better but I enjoyed this one as a stand alone all the same.

This cozy mystery is about restaurant owner Nora and her boyfriend veterinarian and military veteran Lane as well as Pal the Belgian Malinois. There are a few twists and turns in the mystery and the story kept me interested throughout. It does have a slight Christian bent to the story without being preachy as well as a secondary chaste romance story line.

If you are ready for a light mystery with likable people and a great canine character as well I encourage you to pick this one up.

Thank you to net galley and the publisher for an e gally in exchange for an honest review.

I absolutely love this series. It's a suspenseful cozy with romance and bombs and dogs. What is not to like about this? Nothing because it is a favorite series of mine for a reason, it's perfect. I haven't read a book in this series that is under 4 stars!
I just reviewed New Leash on Life by Kathleen Y'Barbo. #NewLeashonLife #NetGalley

This is the 3rd book I have read in this series and I loved this story as much as the others!

I'm a big fan of any story with a dog but this one was different. The Belgian Malinois named Pal captivated my heart from the moment he came into the story. Everything from his soulful eyes to his therapeutic touch to help a character with PTSD drew me in and kept me reading for hours.

I love that this addresses the very real effect PTSD has on our veterans and their families. It shows how it affects relationships and ignites hope that there is a way to overcome the battle inside.

The romance and mystery of this story was also well done and I love the unique challenge that these two faced with each other.

Thank you for another great read in this series. For those of you who have not read the other books, this book can stand alone but I highly recommend you check out the others!

This is a read that really highlighted the senses of a dog. Of course, the dog is well trained, or so it is assumed.

This is the sixth book in this series, and it can be read alone, there are recurring characters, and the other books are so good!

This is Nora's story and her relationship Lane, and family and friends are wanting them, or Lane to make a decision!

Enter a solution, on a round about way, a tornado, fire, and unfortunately, drugs, but on the upside a beautiful well trained military dog, that in the end changes lives.

There is also a rescued cat, but there is a mystery, and as the facts unfold, wow, I really didn't see a lot of it coming!

Can't wait for the next book in this series!

I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Barbour, and was not required to give a positive review.

This is book 6 of the Gone to the Dogs series. I have read all of these and loved them all. I hope there will be more.

A very special dog, a charming couple, family members, employees, tornados, explosives, fires, and theft are all subjects in this quick read cozy mystery.

I highly recommend this book for lovers of animals, romance, or cozy mysteries. Thanks to NetGalley and Barbour for the ARC. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

A military trained dog on the loose, a tornado, a fire, strange inconsistencies in the grocery orders, and more cause Nora’s life to be far more eventful than normal in this next installment in the Gone to the Dogs series. Readers will enjoy the variety of twists and turns in this story. A little romance, some personal growth, some suspense, some heart touching moments, and some fun are all wrapped up in this book. This book could stand alone, but readers who have read other books in this series will enjoy reading more about beloved characters from the previous books. I highly recommend this book.

I requested and received a copy of this book for review. The opinions expressed here are wholly my own.

Book 6 of the,Gone to the Dogs series revolves around Pal who is an retired military dog who goes missing. Lane and Nora's romance is slowly moving along but sure could use some communication. The story is sweet light hearted fun. There are some twists thrown in here and there. I have enjoyed this series and am really glad I read this one. Thanks #Netgalley and #BarbourPublishing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

The posted synopsis lists different character names (as of this review - 08/2023) but this story is about Nora. Lane and a BelMal named Pal.

This was a very enjoyable read. A bit more of a romance (and a frustrating romance at that) than a mystery. I wish there had been more with Agatha Kitty!

I really felt like was coming into an established series when I started the book. Turns out this is book 6 but looking at the synopses of the other books it looks like each book has different main characters.

I think non-Christians would also enjoy this book as there is no preaching in it.

This was my first book by the author but won't be my last.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Barbour Publishing through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Barbour Publishing.

Another great story! I loved following the story of Lane and Nora. I particularly fell in love with Pal and loved learning more about military dogs. Lane's PTSD was sad to think about and disappointing that he couldn't share that with his friends and family.

Thanks so much to netgalley and Barbour publishing for the arc. The opinions are my own.

New Leash on Life is a good lighthearted read. It didn’t take me too long to finish and I found it to be both refreshing and enjoyable. It’s a clean romance that I recommend especially to dog lovers.

New Leash on Life is a delightful cozy mystery. I enjoyed going back to Brenham, Texas and the veterinarian clinic and meeting new characters Nora and Lane. While he's busy at the nearby veterinarian school and Nora is buying a new business and running her restaurant, a military dog shows up and some nefarious activity occurs. The puzzling mystery Y'Barbo unleashes in the story will keep you turning the pages.. I've enjoyed all the Gone to the Dog books. I received a copy with no obligation, and opinions are my own.

I am usually a romance reader, and downloaded this book expecting it was romance. There was some romance, but it wasn’t at all what I was expecting!
The two main characters had a complicated relationship, and in the same circumstance, I’m not sure I would have been as patient as the FMC was. As is the case with most relationship conflict, everything could have been solved with some good old-fashioned communication!! (And it eventually was.)
There was a good bit of mystery/suspense in this book, but not violence, which I appreciated. There are clues sprinkled throughout the story, but it didn’t make the mystery easy to solve!
There is a cat and a dog in this story, so obviously, it’s a good book!! ;) No harm comes to either the dog or cat, so you can read without apprehension about that!
As with all romance, it does end in a happily ever after, and the mystery is resolved satisfactorily, but a little bit sad. (NOT HORRIBLY SAD!!!)
Overall, I really did like this story! I didn’t LOVE the FMC, but it wasn’t enough to put me off the rest of the book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I enjoyed the growth of the male main character. I enjoyed the plot and felt like it was fast moving that didn't leave me wishing it would move along or leave me scratching my head because it left something out. I loved Nora, she was likeable but flawed as all of us are. I'm glad that I got to read this book and I loved it!!
