I didn’t expect to fall in love with this book this much but I’m glad that I did. This romance was a pleasant surprise in many ways. The plot, the writing and the characters as well are done excellently and the book reads swiftly and easily! Couldn’t put it down.
The Cutting Edge by Lisa Daily is wonderful - you will enjoy all the characters! Happy Reading!
**I received an ARC of this book courtesy of NetGalley and the publisher. All opinions expressed in this review are my own and given freely**
When I was a kid the movie the Cutting Edge was my favorite movie so Lisa Daily had me at figure skater/hockey romance.
The book reads like a Hallmark movie, the best possible way. It made me giggle, fall in love, occasional roll my eyes but ultimately left me with a big smile on my face.
There were a few typos, but I assume they will be fixed in the final version. My only real complaint was that we barely saw Poppy for much of the book. She was a great character and I expect more family moments from a single dad romance.
I give the book 3.5 stars, rounded up to 4 on sites that fail to understand the need for half stars. Thanks so much to NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to try this book. I’ll definitely keep my eye out for the next book in the series.
i really wanted to enjoy this book because i discovered i really like sports romances. however, it just did not do it for me. i was so excited for the olympic figure skater and professional hockey player duo, but there were no cute sports moments between them like i would have hoped for. i did not like insta-love aspect of this, becuase it''s just so unrealistic like many other parts of the book. there was very little relationship development before they were in love. i enjoy a good of pining and chasing in a book. plot-wise, it was subpar. nothing that happened was shocking or kept me on the edge of my seat. the writing was also not as engaging as i would have liked. i do appreciate the opportunity to have read this book, though! thank you!
please note that the trigger warnings and topes/themes may contain spoilers
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
HEA: yes
spice: a 1 open-door spicy scenes
TWs: hospital setting, concussion, mentions of death, chemo/cancer (not MCs), anxiety/anxiety attacks
standalone: yes
final thoughts: a cute, mostly closed-door romance about a famous hockey playing single dad and the Olympic ice-skating coach with a not-so-meet-cute and plenty of shenanigans. BUT this book has so much potential but it ultimately fell a little bit short for me. It was cute, funny, and enjoyable but it needed more! I oved reading about their relationship but there were some plot holes that I felt really let the storyline down for being great.

thank you to Net Gallery and the publishers for allowing me to review an ARC of this book. i really enjoyed seeing the relationship between coco and logan. however, i think their relationship progressed too fast. i also think that some parts of this story were way to unrealistic. on a more positive note, i found myself kicking my feet and swooning over some of the things logan did for coco. overall, i really enjoyed this cute, swoon worthy romance!
The book felt really juvenile. It was sort of like insta-love. They met and then BAM they were ready to sacrifice everything for each other. I’m not saying there is anything wrong with that, but it just could have been paced out more. Along with the timing issue I was also really confused with the plot. It felt like sometimes he had a daughter and then sometimes she was just a forgotten thought. It wasn’t that he mistreated her, it was just that she was barley mentioned and only in weird places throughout the book. Overall it wasn’t a truly enjoyable read, and I had to skim through the last five chapters.
This was a cute, quick read but missed the mark in a lot of ways. The characters were fairly surface level, the majority of the romance takes place in the hospital, and (hopefully this is just because it is an ARC) it was riddled with repeat paragraphs and errors.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for providing this ARC
Good parts of this book;
Logan - great main character, super sweet and great Dad.
Quick, easy to read
Bits I did not like;
Found Coco annoying and difficult to root for
It fell a little flat for me sadly
This was a fun sports romance that i enjoyed reading. The chemistry and relationship between the main characters was believable and i had a good time all together.
I have quite mixed feelings about this book. It started really, really well with a lovely connection and genuine attraction and steamy flirting between Logan and Coco and I enjoyed it so much up until the point where coach offered to pay her in exchange for being Logan's lucky charm. I found that quite forced and ruined the genuineness that had been between Coco and Logal until that point. Their interaction was so sweet and natural and I would have wished for another way for Logan to make up for his mistakes.
Also the book needed more editing as I saw some paragraphs being duplicated throughout the book or at some times you could see some verbs missing. I guess this is normal being an ARC
Overall it really had me laughing and rooting for Coco and Logan and I would have given it a solid 5 stars if it hadn't been for that forced drama at the end.
Overall rating
4⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5
This book has potential to be 5 stars but it missed the mark for me. Mainly it was some grammar and punctuation issues, along with some repetition in certain chapters.
I think the constant whiplash from coco also gave me a headache. I get her reluctance to trust but she gave up too easily at times which led to a third act breakup and that isn’t my favorite trope.
Emotional rating
5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5
Loved the romance in this book! Logan is so sweet and caring and went above and beyond for Coco. I also enjoyed his daughter poppy who is just simply adorable! The romantic scenes between Coco and Logan gave me butterflies! They were so sweet together (when they were together haha). Overall such a cute hockey romance.
Spicy rating
1🌶️ out of 5
If you are looking for a ✨spicy✨ book, this one isn’t it. One spicy scene is inferred while in the hospital and there is only one other when they get together after an away game. Nothing wrong with the scenes but I wanted moreeeee.
I do plan to read the next book in the series since I enjoyed this authors writing! ❤️

This a a sexy romantic comedy between a Star hockey player and an Olympic figure skater. Yes its title is The Cutting Edge…..but it’s so much more that the movie that its title gives a nod to.
It’s sexy, swoon-worthy, and has a HEA!
The MMC is strong and sweet while still being dangerous enough for touch her and die vibes. The best kind of cinnamon roll!
The MFC is smart, sexy, athletic and sassy! She is independent to a fault and wants nothing to do with someone taking care of her….
But when they come together it’s magic…..like a puck to the head!
Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC.
I've been waiting quite a while to write this review because I didn't really know what to say.
I was really excited about it since it was a hockey romance and the cover was cute, but the book itself fell flat for me. The story felt disjointed and it wasn't as well written as I'd like it to be. The premise of the book was really good but it feels like it would have needed a lot more work and maybe some better editing.
Not for me unfortunately! I really thought I was enjoying it at the beginning until about 40% through. It was really sweet and Logan was an absolute gentleman. However, after that point it became a little monotonous. The whole scheme with the lucky charm and being employed for this reason? I’m not sure about others, but it personally didn’t sit right for me. I think my biggest gripe is probable Logan’s gift giving. It became a tad excessive and it got the point where it felt like he was almost buying the relationship.
I figured out that I’ve grown out of loving instant love in books. But if that’s your favourite trope, this is a book for you!
Thank you Netgalley for giving me an ARC in exchange for an honest review! Despite the little bits, I had fun and it was worth the read :)
The Cutting Edge by Lisa Daily is the first book in the St. Pete Slashers series. Logan Rivers is a star pro hockey player for the St. Pete Slashers -- and he's in a slump. He hasn’t scored in 3 games and it’s starting to freak him out. Enter Olympic figure skater Coco, who strikes a deal with an assistant coach to be Logan's lucky charm to pay off her training expenses. Sparks fly and everything is looking up for both of them. She’s almost got her debt paid off and the Slashers are on a winning streak. There's only one problem: she doesn’t know how to tell Logan she’s been lying to him the whole time. If she can just keep her secret until the playoffs are over.
The Cutting Edge started off strong and I thought it had a lot of potential. I liked Coco and her friends and could appreciate Logan's character. I loved his daughter, although I felt like more could have been done with her character. I liked the characters, thought the set up was neat, but once they added the 'conflict' I started to lose interest and some of the shine started to wear off for me. There were some moments that felt really out of character for both Coco and Logan, and about half way though the story I started to lose interested in how things were going to come together. I was looking for more information on how Coco's sick neighbor was doing, and the lives of the secondary characters more than our main players.
The Cutting Edge started off great and had a lot of potential. I still think I'll give the next book in the series a try.
This is a romantic comedy that combines several beloved romance tropes into one entertaining package. In this story, we follow the journey of Logan, an NHL player, and single dad, who unexpectedly meets Coco, his daughter's skating coach, in a rather unconventional way.
Maybe the pacing is a bit slow and the story slightly ridiculous but the characters are super cute. With his gruff exterior and golden retriever personality, Logan is a standout character. His relationship with his daughter, Poppy, is heartwarming and adds an endearing layer to the narrative.
As for the romance: "get your hands off of her"
Thanks.
Although the book could have benefited from a bit more depth and length, it doesn't fail to deliver on its promise of a cozy, laugh-out-loud romance. The dialogue, while occasionally awkward, offers an enjoyable exchange between the characters.
Many thanks to NetGalley and Siesta Key for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. "The Cutting Edge" is out so make sure to be a delightful addition to your reading list.
The problem I have is Coco does something and then gets all pissed off at Logan for doing the EXACT SAME THING! Should he have lied? No. Should SHE have lied? No!
But get off your high horse Coco, you still did it!!
No leg to stand on girl.
Not to mention the chapters were odd lengths. Someone were really short, others seemed to carry on for ages!
I’m not saying every chapter should have the exact same amount of characters, but try make them the same length ish page wise at least!
A positive, there was more actual hockey playing in this book than any other hockey romance I’ve read.
It was fine. Not good, but not bad either. Will I read it again? No. Do I regret reading it? No.
I loved this book! I was originally drawn to the cover and the storyline, but the characters were amazing and I loved them. The storyline was greatly paced, which caused me to devour it.
I honestly wanted to love this book so much, people who know me know I'm a sucker for everything that has skating in it. The reality is that , unfortunately, this book was not for me.
First I want to focus on the positive side, this book is cute, the characters are funny, I loved the secondary characters very much. The book also reads very quickly.
On the less positive side I understand this is an arc but punctuation was all over the place and sometimes also was the writing. Also this book is supposed to have a skater main character but we literally see her on the ice only one time. More than half of the book takes place in the hospital. As soon as we get out of the hospital, where I expected to enjoy the book more, it actually got worst for me. The romance is basically based on deceiving and unfortunately that's a no for me. I wasn't able to empathize with them end that made me unable to comprehend why the main conflict was resolved.
