The Cutting Edge by Lisa Daily is the first book in the St. Pete Slashers series. Logan Rivers is a star pro hockey player for the St. Pete Slashers -- and he's in a slump. He hasn’t scored in 3 games and it’s starting to freak him out. Enter Olympic figure skater Coco, who strikes a deal with an assistant coach to be Logan's lucky charm to pay off her training expenses. Sparks fly and everything is looking up for both of them. She’s almost got her debt paid off and the Slashers are on a winning streak. There's only one problem: she doesn’t know how to tell Logan she’s been lying to him the whole time. If she can just keep her secret until the playoffs are over.

The Cutting Edge started off strong and I thought it had a lot of potential. I liked Coco and her friends and could appreciate Logan's character. I loved his daughter, although I felt like more could have been done with her character. I liked the characters, thought the set up was neat, but once they added the 'conflict' I started to lose interest and some of the shine started to wear off for me. There were some moments that felt really out of character for both Coco and Logan, and about half way though the story I started to lose interested in how things were going to come together. I was looking for more information on how Coco's sick neighbor was doing, and the lives of the secondary characters more than our main players.

The Cutting Edge started off great and had a lot of potential. I still think I'll give the next book in the series a try.

This is a romantic comedy that combines several beloved romance tropes into one entertaining package. In this story, we follow the journey of Logan, an NHL player, and single dad, who unexpectedly meets Coco, his daughter's skating coach, in a rather unconventional way.

Maybe the pacing is a bit slow and the story slightly ridiculous but the characters are super cute. With his gruff exterior and golden retriever personality, Logan is a standout character. His relationship with his daughter, Poppy, is heartwarming and adds an endearing layer to the narrative.

As for the romance: "get your hands off of her"

Thanks.

Although the book could have benefited from a bit more depth and length, it doesn't fail to deliver on its promise of a cozy, laugh-out-loud romance. The dialogue, while occasionally awkward, offers an enjoyable exchange between the characters.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Siesta Key for providing an ARC in exchange for an honest review. "The Cutting Edge" is out so make sure to be a delightful addition to your reading list.

The problem I have is Coco does something and then gets all pissed off at Logan for doing the EXACT SAME THING! Should he have lied? No. Should SHE have lied? No!
But get off your high horse Coco, you still did it!!
No leg to stand on girl.
Not to mention the chapters were odd lengths. Someone were really short, others seemed to carry on for ages!
I’m not saying every chapter should have the exact same amount of characters, but try make them the same length ish page wise at least!
A positive, there was more actual hockey playing in this book than any other hockey romance I’ve read.
It was fine. Not good, but not bad either. Will I read it again? No. Do I regret reading it? No.

I loved this book! I was originally drawn to the cover and the storyline, but the characters were amazing and I loved them. The storyline was greatly paced, which caused me to devour it.

I honestly wanted to love this book so much, people who know me know I'm a sucker for everything that has skating in it. The reality is that , unfortunately, this book was not for me.
First I want to focus on the positive side, this book is cute, the characters are funny, I loved the secondary characters very much. The book also reads very quickly.
On the less positive side I understand this is an arc but punctuation was all over the place and sometimes also was the writing. Also this book is supposed to have a skater main character but we literally see her on the ice only one time. More than half of the book takes place in the hospital. As soon as we get out of the hospital, where I expected to enjoy the book more, it actually got worst for me. The romance is basically based on deceiving and unfortunately that's a no for me. I wasn't able to empathize with them end that made me unable to comprehend why the main conflict was resolved.

This was a cute, insta-love romance and I love anything hockey related 🤭 I definitely prefer more of a slow burn/angst romance in this case. I would’ve liked a bit more tension in the relationship to help build but overall was cute!

Unfortunately this book was not entirely for me. Comparing this to icebreaker or other spiced hockey romances there was barely anything in the entire book. I enjoyed the small gifts and time the MMC did since he hit the MFC with a hockey puck going 103 mph. I do find it strange that she was completely fine other than staying in the hospital for majority of the book. There were also a ton of grammar issues and repeated sentences throughout. I always say give a book a try, but maybe save this one for last.

I requested this because, hello, hockey!

And I was hoping it would be more on ice action a la the movie of the same name, but instead it was more a hospital romance, since most of it happened there.

There was no angst, no passion (good or bad), just a few cross words between Logan and Coco and then everything was all good (and I know that sometimes we just want a sweet, angst free tale).

To me, this needed a bit of fire, a bit of grrr to move the story and the relationship along.

But I did love Poppy, she stole scenes and will steal your heart.

LOVE the cover and the fonts and all the pretty. But inside was different. Premise of a single dad meeting his insta love was perfection. But it wasn’t executed properly. So, so many grammatical errors that it was difficult to read. Logan was the sweetest guy, so sweet, it was not even an inkling of close to real life. No one is THAT happy. Lots of exaggerated scenes, no manly “I play hockey” type scenes.. and unnecessary drama later in the story. Bringing in violent ex did nothing for the storyline except show Logan as a “I’m man, beat you up” type character which was NOT who he was the entire book. Loved the idea and the premise and all that it could have been, but it just wasn’t. Thanks for the opportunity!

I received a complimentary copy of this book via Netgalley. Opinions expressed in this review are my own.

I think myself, along with the rest of the rom-com, are falling in love with hockey players. This book was an entertaining read and made me,once again, fall in love with a fictional character.

I also realized I would be a puppy-gram next time I'm sick. Kittens would work, too.

I sadly did not like this book at all. The writing felt juvenile, Logan was annoyingly intense with apologies at the beginning and everything just felt annoying in general. Also would a Puck hitting you in the head at 103 miles an hour kill a person?

Thank you NetGalley for providing me with this ARC!

Uhm.. Sadly this book wasn't for me. I'm a huge hockey romance reader but there were a few reasons why I wasn't really getting into it and had to DNF it.

- Writing style is amateur
- Love interest is always positive and happy, no tension
- No balance in dialogue and description, too little of the latter
- it's a hockey romance but sports is barely mentioned

I wish I could like this because I hate to give a bad rating for a book but it is what it is.

This was a very cute. The way Logan falls for Coco and Poppy being in the deal makes it all the sweeter. This had laughter, love, and hope. The trifecta when you think RomCom. Overall a good read.

It won't let me do a half star but I give this book 3 1/2 stars.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Very cute storyline about two people who don't notice each other before until disaster strikes brings them together out of guilt and a hospital stay. The saying is you don't look for love until it hits you (literally).

Favorite character of course is 5 year old, Poppy. The author did a great job with her character and writing for her.

Favorite scene - when they announce to everyone they are officially dating, not putting too much to not give a spoiler. It was done in a very cute way.

I have trouble giving a lower rating and hoping this was fixed before it was published since it was an ARC but some of the pages and paragraphs were repeated which made me think I missed a page or accidentally hit the wrong thing on my kindle. Some of the scenes seemed a bit odd - first time is behind closed doors or so it was written that way because the second time was very steamy however sounded like their first time which was confusing to this reader. I went back to reread what was shared as their first encounter behind closed doors and that it is how it was written. Some of the plot seemed a bit far fetched (being hired as the "lucky charm" but don't tell).

I did like the basis of the story, the story overall and the characters. Of course I ended the book with wait? What now? What happens now which then turned into relief seeing this is the first of a 3 book series. I'm looking forward to reading the continuation of the team to see where it goes from there.

Thank you to NetGalley and Siesta Key for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley for providing me with a copy of this novel.
The Cutting Edge markets itself as a sports romance between a big-time NHL player and an Olympic figure skater.
Unfortunately, I had to DNF at 50%.
Coco, our FMC, (who I'm certain is Bella according to the Goodreads description) gets hit by a puck going specifically 103 miles per hour thanks to our MMC, Logan. She miraculously survives however with only a hairline fracture according to her extremely attentive doctor.
Please also note that although I stopped reading at the 50% mark, Coco still had not yet left the hospital and all interactions between our main characters occurred in this one hospital room over only a few days.
The dialogue between all the characters made me feel like I was pulling my own teeth out. It was awkward, disjointed, and practically painful to get through. It would have been more pleasant to watch politicians who hate each other, try and be cordial for the camera.
Logan was head over heels with Coco from the get-go which was sweet until it wasn't. It was love bombing at its best. His adoptive (this backstory is brushed over like NBD) daughter Poppy is completely forgotten about, and his nanny (because apparently using her name, Rosie, is too difficult) seems to be caring for her, but hey who knows because this is hardly explained.
Coco eventually goes loco and realises the good old American healthcare system is going to send her broke but blames Logan for the whole situation. So when he comes to visit her, she snaps at him to leave with practically no explanation. This is is the straw that broke the camels back for me.
The grammatical errors and the horrible formatting, which could have been the fact the copy I read was electronic however this isn't a reasonable excuse, definitely didn't help this book's case.
At the end of the day, I'm glad I gave this one a go but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone.

It had a good premise that made me request this book, but the whole timeline ended up being messy and i couldn't get the story as i thought i would. Do i think the book is bad? No, but if you read it based on the premise... you will end up disapointed

Problem #1: A hockey puck hitting your head at 103mph will kill you. It will not result in minor bleeding and a hairline fracture. A week after this near-death experience, Coco is doing shots of alcohol? I got a minor concussion when my head hit the soft car seat and the doctor said no alcohol for two weeks and my head was pounding for one.

Problem #2: 60% of this book was spent in the hospital and over the course of a week. Insta-love at its finest. The timeline is so jacked between the playoffs game schedule and the travel.

Problem #3: Logan buys every single dream gift in the book. A Vera Wang dress, a puppy play date, massages, manis and pedis, and they’re all sent to her hospital room. He literally buys her love. She says she doesn't want it and doesn't want to accept his money. Then she happily opens a Patreon to accept money from everyone else.

Problem #4: The “drama” isn’t drama. It’s so contrived.

Problem #5: For a hockey romance compared to Icebreaker, there was zero steam. The “steam” was some of the most awkward and flat I’ve ever read.

Thank you to NetGalley and Siesta Key/Lisa Daily for the ARC.

I wish I could say something generic like, “This book is for readers who want a simple and fun read,” but even that would be a lie. This book is one trope piled after another with no real conflict or character growth. It is in serious need of a content edit. Lovers of teen drama may get past these things, but I think they would even find this book to fall flat.

Over all this was a super cute book. Things I loved about it were the flow, characters and most of the plot. Im not a huge third break up act, book lover. It has to really feel like it works. And it just didn’t for me. Im so thankful for the opportunity to read this book. I just wish it had alittle more detail and it felt like things were rushed. I enjoy when FMC & MMC slowly get into the relationship/lusty parts. I just felt like it was very quick.

Overall though, I did enjoy it. & will post on my instagram for a recommendation:)

I have not read Ice Breaker, so I do not have that to compare this story to. However, that being said I found this book charming and fun. There were parts in the middle that were really good, but in the beginning, I almost gave up because I didn't connect. I am glad I kept on reading because it was surprising.

My favorite character was Poppy and the back story of how Logan became her father.

Login Rivers is a NHL hockey player and is in a slump till he meets Coco and his whole world changes. He is crazy about this woman, there is small problem that he did hit her in the head with his runaway slap shot. Can they move past this and what it means to Coco's future as a figure skater?

Thank you to NetGalley and Siesta Key House for a copy of this book for my honest review.
