Sweet slow burn hockey romance. Adorable father-daughter relationship, and kind of 2 sports covered (hockey and figure skating). I enjoyed watching the relationship bloom, but I was frustrated by the late book miscommunication and the ending. Lost interest during probably the last 50 pages, but I made it through

Coco is a figure skating teacher and ends up getting hit by a hockey puck 👀 OUCH. The man who hit her takes her to the hospital (she's there for a while) and ends up taking care of her and grovels for forgiveness 🙏
Logan's been in a slump, not able to score during his hockey games, until he interacts closely with Coco. He believes she's his lucky charm and will do anything to keep her around 🫠

This was a cute #arc to start off my #netgalley account 🙌
I enjoyed this book although it did have a few plot flow issues and some duplicative paragraphs towards the beginning, which were easy to gloss over. I gave it 4 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ out of 5 💕
It was sweet with a bit of spice, some 🥵🔥 times and some 🥶❄️ and reminded me of the figure skating movie series 🎬 with the same name (although there's minimal skating in the book) ⛸️
The Cutting Edge is the first of a three-book St. Pete Slashers series 🏒
I'm excited to see what Lisa Daily comes out with next! 😍
Thanks to Netgalley, Siesta Key House, and Lisa Daily for the ARC! 💫
(Also reviewed on Amazon but it's in process of being approved)
I was very excited for the premise of this book (single dad plus hockey romance, yes please) but found the actual reading pretty boring. I feel like the writing was really repetitive for no real reason and the story wasn’t progressing anywhere.
Bella is a wonderful girl who is scrimping and saving to be able to make it to the Olympics. Part of this includes giving lessons to juniors. She loves it but not when the parents are late to pick up. What she doesn't need is time off the ice because some doofus hits her with a puck.
Logan has not scored a goal in games, but he puts in effort. Hours and hours of training. Sometimes this means he looses track of time. What he didn't anticipate was his daughter's teacher coming to look for him. Hitting Miss Bella with the puck is the worst thing that could happen to Logen, but is it?
When Bella brings a spark to Logan's game, the team manager pays her to hang around for the season, but will this deceit mean the end for Bella and Logan?
This was a lovely sports romance. Logan is just gorgeous but I really feel for Bella and her dreams to get to the Olympics. Logan's daughter was also gorgeous. This was an all around great read. Well written with just the right amount of detail and spice!
Big thanks to NetGalley, Siesta Key and Lisa Daily for an early release copy of this book.
Awww this book!!!
I’m very new to the arc world but if they are all like this then my TBR may be abandoned haha!!
First of all the this book has all the tropes! Here’s a few:
- Hockey Player x Ice Skater (It’s giving Icebreaker!)
- Subtle Enemies to Lovers (you’ll get why!)
- He falls first
- Single Dad…
…just to name a few.
It was such an easy read, with not too much spice, some really funny moments and also some great characters! The storyline didn’t feel too forced and there was some real life issues touched on such as hospital stays, money problems and also the discussion of having money.
Let’s start with the FMC, I loved Coco’s character - she was so fun and her relationship with Poppy was such a cute added touch throughout the book. She was the right level of independent but also not so much that it caused an issue within her relationships. You can really see what a kind soul she is throughout her relationships with the other characters in the book such as Marissa and Ms Markham. Poppy is also one of the cutest kids I’ve read, she was just so caring and had her dad wrapped round her little pinky haha.
Logan was such a fun character. The hockey banter was such as good add to the book - it was so funny seeing Cam tease him about Coco and Logan using his coach throughout the book (again trying not to have too many spoilers but it will all make sense!). The hockey family were also so welcoming to Coco and I can’t wait to read Cam and Lana’s story!
I can’t finish the review without saying that Daily did the background characters great justice too - having the older neighbour, the nosey nurses and the bestie all involved with Logan really allowed us to see his golden retriever energy and his big heart!! I am also definitely a sucker for he falls first trope as it is definitely more written the other way around…
I thought this book was super cute as well as a quick read. Ever since I saw the 1992 movie of the same name, I have always been a sucker for hockey player meets figure skater romances. The book is written in a dual POV between Coco, a figure skater with Olympic aspirations and Logan, a professional hockey player who happens to be a single father. Coco teaches figure skating and Logan’s daughter happens to be her student. Although these characters know each other on a surface level, they get to know one another when Logan hits her accidentally with a hockey puck to the head causing her to get a concussion. Logan feels incredibly guilty about unintentionally injuring her and hurting chances of being a potential hopeful. Once Coco realizes the extent of her injuries, she becomes enraged at Logan, and causes Logan to be determined to get back in her good graces. As Logan’s and Coco’s friendship blooms and progresses, Logans performance on the ice improves which leads them on the road to the Stanley cup. However, not everything comes super easy for these two as they hit a few bumps along the way until they get their HEA.
I thought this book was adorable, it is sweet, romantic, and just an overall feel-good novel. Some of the tropes that are explored in this book are: single dad, sports romance, he falls first, big time gift giver. I totally recommend it, it is so sweet, I would describe it as literary candy.
Thank you Lisa Daily and Siesta Key for the digital copy via NetGalley in return for an honest review.
Such a unique book, I loved the plot, and oh my god the characters were so amazing!! I definitely will be recommending it!!
This book was enjoyable and cute. Definitely a go to for a quick and easy read with some romantic moments.
Coco and Logan were cute but pretty surface level characters. Although they had undeniable chemistry which was enjoyable to read, there wasn’t much of them to explore.
I wasn’t too fond of the pacing just because the characters having strong feelings for each other within three days felt a little “insta-lovey” which is a trope that i’m not the biggest fan of - but that’s just a personal preference.
I loved Poppy and would have loved to have seen more of her. I felt like she just disappeared halfway through the book, whereas the beginning made her seem important to the story.
Overall, I liked this book but felt as though there could have been more too it to help with the cohesion and pacing. I’d still recommend it if you enjoy cute sports romances.
Thank you to Net Galley, Siesta Key House and Lisa Daily for providing this eARC.
I am in my hockey romance era right now and this book did not disappoint! Logan is hockey player who accidentally injures Coco with a flying hockey puck. Coco is a figure skating instructor to Logan’s daughter Poppy. Coco ends up being hospitalized for a few weeks and that is when Logan and Coco start getting to know one another. This book was so cute and I enjoyed it so much! I just felt the ending was a bit rushed and the issues got resolved too quickly but other than that, I would recommend! I look forward to reading the second book in the series about Cam and Lana. Rating: 3.75/5!
I love this quick easy read. Logan is amazing and I love him deffo boyfriend material just everything he does and says I'm in love
A book that's a Sports and Hockey Romance... YES PLEASE
From start to finish, I became obsessed with this book and how the relationship between Coco and Logan unfolded. Logan... is a Uncle turned Dad and as soon as that was spoken about, I knew there was going to be no part that I wasn't going to love.
Poppy brought them together which can I just say was the cutest storyline ever! She is a little sassy which I feel really helped the funny moments and storyline come to life.
I feel there could've been a little more drama.. but that's only because I love drama in books. But the whole earning money being a 'lucky charm' was random but makes total sense. The guy wants the girl and would do anything for it.
Overall, a cute Sports Romance.. sign me up.
The relationship between Logan and Coco was so cute! It started of rocky - him accidentally nailing her head with a hockey puck isn't your usual meet-cute, but it got sweeter from there. Even the relationship with Poppy was sweet without being cloying. I wish the ending had been drawn out a little bit more; I feel like we jumped very quickly into conflict then resolved it equally fast and I would've enjoyed seeing more of their relationship growth. Overall, an enjoyable read and I'd for sure pick up the sequel.
loved Fifteen Minutes so I was really looking for Lisa Daily's take on a hockey romance series. Unfortunately this fell flat for me. The elements were all there to make it a good read: figure skating underdog FMC with an awesome BFF/ roommate/boss, a hunky hockey player who has a precocious almost 6-year-old, what could go wrong, amirite?
An editor would have helped a great deal to catch glaring typos, dialogue flow, etc., but nothing could help this instalove with lack of actual obstacles. It was just I daresay dull. Logan was almost too great, Coco was all right but for the absolutely dreadful full given name, Poppy and Marissa were delightful, but the story had no intrigue, no real emotion or heart.
Helena Hunting, Avery Flynn, and so many other authors have set the standard for the hockey romance. I'm hoping the series improves.
I received this advance reader copy from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I received this as an ARC for free in exchange for an honest review.
I really really really wanted to like this book. But the grammatical errors and repetitiveness of some of the lines really dragged this book down. There were some sentences that were incomprehensible because it looked like she started a sentence, then changed the wording by starting again but never deleted the first try. This book had horrible editing, which is a shame because it had so much potential.
This was a very insta-love story, which typically aren't my thing. The jokes were painful at times.
The first intimate scene was closed door, the next was meh. Most of this love story happened during a 2 week hospital stay and then the last 40% happened lightening fast over a months long span. The pacing was off, if the book was longer I think it would have translated better.
Even with all of these flaws, I still found this to be a fun read, and honestly will probably pick up the next one in the series because I am nosy and need to know how Cam gets his girl.
This is the first hockey romance I've ever read and I really enjoyed this!! I just wish it wasn't a slow burn romance (I am personally not a fan of those but if you are this is the book for you!) I definitely recommend reading this book for all my hockey romance fans out there!
This needs a lot of editing. Like a lot more than a normal ARC. Not a lot of tension, I know rom coms are known for being unaware but man this one is just unrealistic. Had to DNF it just needs too much editing
Perfect for fans of Icebreaker! Thought it was well done figure skating / hockey player trope. Congrats to the author on release!
This book was not my favorite. It was very hard to get through all of the repetitive writing. The storyline was lacking and most of the book was focused on a single scene. I liked Logan's character but the chemistry was lacking between the two MCs.
This book is a fun meet-cute light romance that offers a lot of fun moments. It's about two people who feel like they've hit some major slumps in their lives and are coming to grips with maybe not being at the top of their sport any more. The part I found hard to understand about all of this is how Logans daughter fit into the book to be honest. She's a great character that they could have fleshed out a bit more or explored the circumstances around her more and how it changed Logan. She sort of disappears in the middle of the story and reappears at the end and I wished she'd been woven into the whole of the novel. Overall I enjoyed the book though and will definitely want to read the next!
This book was a nice little hockey romance. Honestly I thought it was just okay. A little cliche and boring at times, but you couldn’t help root for the main characters. I thought it was anticlimactic that most of the book (and the love story) took place in a hospital. I didn’t like the characteristics on the MMC trying to buy the FMC’s affection and I thought the ending was a little sudden and rushed, but like I said, overall the main characters won you over and the book was solid. Solid 3/5. Thank you NetGalley for this advanced copy!
