I had to “DNF” (did not finish) this book, not because it was bad but, because it was just way to slow for me. I kept finding myself reluctant to pick it up. It wasn’t bad, I think it just isn’t for me. If you want a slow paced chef romance, This may be for you.
This was a great book. I connected with the characters. I felt engrossed with the plot. I would read another book by this author.
Yes, Chef is a delightful debut romance set in Paris (!!!!!!! gets points already just for the setting). Claire Richards, an ambitious American chef, aims to earn a Michelin star but finds herself entangled with James Sullivan, the new head chef whose initial coldness masks deeper layers. The slow-burn romance between Claire and James is authentic and engaging, with well-developed characters and a charming depiction of culinary life.
I loved how the book beautifully captures the ambiance of Paris and the intensity of the restaurant scene. Claire's determination and independence were inspiring, and James' gradual transformation added depth to their relationship. Their chemistry felt real, and the culinary details sprinkled throughout the story made it even more enjoyable.
Although the ending felt a bit rushed, the overall warmth and chemistry make this a satisfying read. Recommended to anyone who loves rom-coms, foodie culture, and stories set in picturesque locations. It's a cozy, feel-good novel that's perfect for a relaxing afternoon.
The author had me at a romance between two chefs in the beautiful setting of Paris! Who wouldn’t love a story with those combined? I adored this slow burn, opposites attract, delicious romance.
A great debut by this author and for anyone who loves Paris, food and romance!
I want to thank NetGalley and Waitlyn Andrews for the e-ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are honest, my own and left voluntarily.
thank you to netgalley for the advanced reading copy. I really enjoyed this and will be getting copies for my shop.
It was okay. It was fun, entertaining. Couldn’t really connect with the characters but still liked them. The slow burn was nice and the angst was there. Love the fact that it’s set in Paris (heart eyes emoji).
This was such a cute and heartfelt romance story. I loved the setting and family development throughout the book.
"Yes, Chef" is a light and breezy romantic comedy set against the backdrop of the vibrant Parisian culinary scene. Waitlyn Andrews crafts a charming story that follows Claire Richards, a determined chef seeking to establish her career on her own terms, away from the expectations of her family and the baggage of a failed relationship.
The novel's strength lies in its atmospheric descriptions of Paris and the mouthwatering depictions of French cuisine, which are sure to delight food enthusiasts. Andrews' writing style is engaging and humorous, capturing the witty inner monologue of Claire as she navigates her new life and career in the City of Lights.
The romantic tension between Claire and her new boss, the attractive and demanding Chef James Sullivan, is well-executed, with their initial clashes and slow-burning attraction providing entertaining moments throughout the narrative. However, the character development falls slightly short, leaving both protagonists feeling somewhat one-dimensional at times.
While the plot follows a predictable path, Andrews manages to keep the story entertaining with her breezy writing and relatable characters. The pacing is consistent, and the author effectively balances the romantic elements with Claire's professional ambitions and personal growth.
Overall, "Yes, Chef" is a charming and enjoyable read, perfect for those seeking a lighthearted escape into the world of Parisian cuisine and romance. While it may not break new ground in the romantic comedy genre, Andrews' novel delivers on its promise of a fun and entertaining read, making it a solid 3-star choice for fans of the genre.
Yes, Chef is for all The Bear lovers out there!
If you love any kind of entertainment set up in a kitchen setting, and if you love cute rom-coms, you're in luck!
Yes, Chef has all you need for a great romcom - great leading characters, Paris, a storyline that's well thought-out and not falling flat. Great dialogue, just the right amount of romance and sizzling chemistry between the characters.
For a debut novel it was surprisingly captivating and put one into a rather cozy and comfy mood, so please, definitely check it out, if you have a chance!
Such a cute romance with lots of mouth watering dishes. I love foodie culture and as a grumpy and sunshine theme this is a great back drop. Spicy and the characters descriptions are wonderfully vivid. I love how detailed the cooking and behind the scenes of a high performing kitchen were written. I’ve worked in restaurants as front of house and from my vantage it was realistic. Perfect spring read.
Went into this blind, so I can’t say I expected anything in particular? I thought it was a slow burn, but man oh man…it was the slowest. It was an overall sweet love story (if closed-door romance is your thing..it’s not for me personally). I like the sprinkling (no pun intended) of culinary terms, etc throughout.
However, I was looking for more spice. Again, that’s just me personally.
It has been a while since I read a romance book that wasn’t classified as spicy- but this one was SO good! I can’t believe this was Waitlyn Andrew’s first book. I hope it’s her first of many because I will read every single one. Yes, Chef a true slow build romance and I savored every single page. I loved the characters just as much as I loved the restaurant aspect of this book. This story is perfect to become a movie and I hope it does! I am fascinated by the restaurant world and the romance was the perfect cherry on top! I absolutely loved this!
Claire is an American chef in Paris working at a restaurant that is striving for a Michelin star. A new head chef is brought in, also from America and there seems to be immediate conflict between Claire and the new chef, James. Over time James and Claire work closer and closer together and a relationship starts to develop.
This was a very fun read, especially since I was preparing to go to France while reading it. Always fun to associate a read with your real life. I loved the scenes when Claire and James would go to the market and speak with the food vendors and all of the amazing food that they describe making. It all sounded so delicious and if the restaurant was a real place I would definitely go there. There is definitely a grumpy sunshine vibe between Claire and James, except that James is only grumpy with Claire and generally acts like a golden retriever around everyone else, until the misunderstanding between them is cleared up. Then he is all in with Claire. This was a cute romcom and I would definitely recommend it especially if you are a foodie!
4.5 stars thanks to Netgalley and Waitlyn Andrews for the E-ARC. I cant believe it took me so long to read this book. I absolutely loooved everything about it. It gave all the feels. I laughed out loud so much that my son was like what are you laughing at. It was totally closed door and I was here for it. There is no breakup and I was double here for it. James Sullivan was life and seeing Claire grown into herself was just icing on the cake. Dont sleep on this like I did read this now.
*ahem*

I wanted to like this book soo bad! I like nothing more than a good chef romance! But I just couldn't. I spent a while getting into it and it just wasn't for me.
Perfect afternoon read. I loved the characters and the chemistry they had. Def recommend this book to anyone looking for a feel good romantic comedy.
A rom-com set in Paris centered around two chefs? Yes, Please. I'm obsessed with cooking shows and this was a great supplement to my reality tv shows. The book was sweet. I enjoyed the characters and their banter or sometimes lack thereof. There were two beautiful settings and I enjoyed reading about Paris and the vineyard in Napa. It made me want to go to Paris immediately. The atmosphere of the book was lovely. Good, quick read to use as a palette cleanser in between more intense books. A detail I liked was both of the characters love for books. As a reader and lover of books I relate to characters more when we share interests.
The book was a little all over the place. I would have expected more focus on getting the Michelin Star, the menu and prep, etc.. I am ready to suspend belief when reading books like this but giving Claire and James' restaurant two Michelin Stars at the end feels like a stretch. I'm glad they were able to achieve their dreams together and it would have been enough for me for them to get their happy ending in Napa. It went from them being friends and Claire being annoyingly in her head about James to getting married way too fast. Some of the backstories felt unnecessary.
Thanks to NetGalley for giving me an arc in return for an honest review.
I honestly really enjoyed this. It’s a great palate cleanser after fantasy, and it was a quick read. Claire is a high strung chef living in Paris trying to make a name for herself away from her family. In comes James, the new head chef of the restaurant she’s working at. This is a slow burn, closed door relationship, and it was insanely cute.
I'm not sure if I'm coming off of a depressy mood because of the Netflix show I just finished, but this also made me some sort of emotional lol I absolutely loved James and Claire and this is the type of romance I love reading about. A nice slow burn and closed door. I'm also a major sucker for food themed romances. I was able to get to know James and Claire as individuals before they started dating, which I thought was nice and I was able to connect to them. They were both so supportive of each other and I was rooting for them the whole time. Who knew chefs have emotions?? lollll
This was definitely a great debut novel and I'm looking forward to Waitlyn's next book!
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for my eARC.
