This book you guys. It’s such a good read. It’s a second gen too and such a bonus to read these characters and see their parents well as established parents.
I love Knight and this book, his story made me so happy and proud fro him. Its a journey, and he conquers it. And It’s so real life and I really appreciate the other giving the characters the justice to have them work on themselves, somethings we have to fall to be able to get back up, and with the support of family and friends and loves we get to see these characters Knight and Luna get through it! As you can tell I love this story. I think you could read it as a standalone but I think knowing more about the parents generation, sinners and saints, would heighten the experience.

Broken Knight by L.J. Shen is book two in the All Saints High Series. This is the story of
Luna Rexroth and Knight Cole . Luna and Knight were friends but they felt like there was more but the each I thought kept pulling away. But this book had me turning the pages because I am a Fan of Ms. Shen. Enjoyed their story and I hope to read the next book soon.
I put this one off for a while because I knew it would break me. And it did. It reminded me a lot of Love Letter to Whiskey - super complicated love, character driven, amazingly deep plot. I loved Knight. I hated Luna at times for her stubbornness but their dynamic was so believable. The ONLY part I didn't love was the super escalation in the last chapter. It's a tidy wrapped up ending but it felt a little too picturesque. I adore this series and can't wait for the next one.
Thank you so much to Netgalley and the publisher for giving me this opportunity!
This is such a heartbreaking novel. I can’t explain how shocked i was when i first started this book. I started it because of the author. I probably should have checked some reviews cause this tore at my heartstrings. It is definitely not for the ones who can’t handle emotional romances.
It was a fine novel.

I was NOT expecting that...
I was not expecting to be ripped apart, then put back again, only to be ripped apart AGAIN. 💔
Luna and Knight's story was heartbreakingly beautiful.
Their constant games of tug-of-war with their feelings for each-other left me in a state of annoyance but also a state of longing. I can't help but feel like my heart is 100lbs heavier after finishing this book.
Be warned, there is a lot of tragedy in this book, a lot of heartbreak, a lot of trauma. PLEASE read the trigger warnings before diving into this book.
I, myself, deal with chronic and progressive illness and reading Rosie's story took me to a place I can't fully explain. I felt my own grief for her and for her family, as I do for my own. I felt very connected to her character and her story and I won't be forgetting the way it made me feel for a very long time.
Knight and Luna both overcame such trying trials and trauma, all with love. Their stories were truly inspirational.
I also loved the way the author incorporated the characters from the 1st book, Daria and Penn and their families. I can tell that the rest in the series will follow the same connections, and I really enjoy that.
Although, at times, I felt this book was repetitive and cringy, I am left feeling emotions I haven't felt while reading in a long long time.
Leave it to L.J. Shen to do that to me.......
L.J. Shen is one of my favorite authors and I cannot say anything bad about her books.
Broken Knight definitely broke my heart but also stitched it back together with a nice little red bow.
Shen’s writing is flawless and she is known to make you feel like this story is playing out in real life and not just a paperback.
The characters are special, emotional and life altering.
"Broken Knight" by L.J. Shen, a narrative rich with the turmoil and intensity of young love, unfolded before me like a dramatic and captivating saga. It's a tale that encapsulates the essence of a friends-to-lovers journey, filled to the brim with angst, a rollercoaster of emotions, and characters that feel as real as they are flawed.
Knight Cole, the golden boy of All Saints High, is a character of many layers. Underneath the charismatic, athletic exterior lies a young man wrestling with deep-seated fears and vulnerabilities. His protective nature, especially towards Luna, has been a defining aspect of his persona, but as Luna chooses to step away for college, Knight's world begins to unravel, revealing the fissures in their seemingly unshakeable bond.
Luna Rexroth, Knight's childhood friend and the other half of this complex duo, is his antithesis in demeanor yet equally compelling. Her journey from a selective mute to a strong individual capable of becoming Knight's protector is a testament to her resilience. Luna's evolution from needing protection to offering it mirrors the dynamic changes both characters undergo through the narrative.
The story is not without its challenges. Knight's struggles with his mother's deteriorating health and his descent into a world of substance abuse and self-destructive behavior highlight the darker aspects of his journey. These elements add a layer of realism to the story, as they depict a character grappling with immense personal grief and the feeling of helplessness that accompanies it.
"Broken Knight" is a reflection of the trials of growing up, of facing harsh realities, and of the transformative power of love and friendship. As I delved deeper into the story, I found myself deeply moved by the intensity of the characters' emotions and their struggles to find their way back to each other. The relationship between Knight and Luna is fraught with miscommunication and assumptions, mirroring the complexities of real-life relationships. Their journey is a poignant reminder of the growth necessary for love to truly flourish.
"Broken Knight" stands as a beautifully crafted story of love, loss, and the resilience of the human spirit. It's a narrative that pulls you into its world and doesn't let go, a story that stays with you long after the last page is turned
The writing is absolutely perfect - I was hooked from the first chapter. The characters are wrote so well and are so perfectly damaged in their own ways. One of the best friends to lovers I've read. It was so beautiful and one of my favorite reads
Sexy and spicy! Don’t be fooled despite the steam in this book I was also crying and feeling the heartbreak. Read this for a wild ride!
A fabulous book by LJ Shen. Knight and Luna are childhood friends. Knight is the star football player but her only has eyes for Luna and wants to protect her from the world after the hurt her mother has caused her. An angsty friends to lovers story that will make you cry and laugh.
This was the definition of a hate-read. Not a single character was likable, the drama was manufactured, and the plot was impossible to follow. If you're into revisiting your teenage years with feelings of inadequacy and eternal self-consciousness, this might be for you. If not...this should be an easy skip.
Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC.
Thank you to L.J. Shen, Bloom, and NetGalley for giving me an eARC of Broken Knight in exchange for my honest review.
Broken Knight follows Knight and Luna, childhood best friends, who both struggle in their own ways. Watching the two of them find their way to each other was marvelous. It is clear from the beginning that they are both in love with each other, but neither plans to do anything about it. But it is not your average friends to lovers. Knight and Luna must take their own journeys first and grow into themselves before they can find their way together.
One thing that I appreciated about this book was that both characters had something that they were trying to overcome. It was not that one was struggling and the other swooped in to save. Rather, they both had something that they needed to work on, and they both helped each other through it. This book made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me want more. There was something magical about reading Luna and Knight's journey and their love story. It is full of heartbreak, yet there is still so much hope.
Man, I was so worried about this one- I wasn't sure I was going to like Knight, and I had REALLY high expectations for Luna- she's always been so important to me, but seemed to fragile and mysterious, like we knew there was so much happening with her but we just didn't know her, yet.
This book is not easy, and at times is deeply heartbreaking. I'm not much of a book crier, but this one had be sobbing in more than one place. Knight and Luna have troubled path to each other- both struggling with their own demons and insecurities, both too fearful to put themselves out there, and both resorting to less than healthy ways of coping (Luna- not talking, running away; Knight- whoring and drinking). We know from prior books and page 1 that they have a deep and profound connection- and that screams at us from every page, but it takes some heartbreak and pain and bittersweet damage for them to finally make it to each other, and they aren't able to do so without hurting themselves, and often others, along the way. But when they finally do make their way to a romantic relationship, it is truly beautiful- two souls immediately intertwined, they somehow become one being an entity with one breath and two beating hearts. I love all of LJ's books, but Luna and Knight are two of the most "destined for each other" and deeply tied together pairing I've read, which says a lot given how wonderful LJ is at building that romantic chemistry and connection.
Be prepared for some unexpected heartbreak. I was NOT expecting that ending, and my heart still hasn't recovered from it, and to be honest, I'm a bit mad about it. But, its their story, like them, broken and painful but at its conclusion, epically beautiful.
I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in this series. It follows a different pair than the first book does, but it still was equally as good. I liked getting to see this pair's story be told, and even get to see others mentioned in the first book show back up in this one.
I kept me invested and interested page after page.
Thank you Netgalley for an arc of this book.
Ok, book one in this series was a CLUSTER-MESS....... and, admittedly, this was also a cluster-mess. This cluster-mess was fun to read and oh so sweet. It definitely delved into heavier themes and topics so check for trigger warnings because I was not expecting it to get so heavy. It also had a major 'miscommunication trope,' however, would argue that it makes sense in the context of this story.
What I didn't love though, was how wishy-washy the story was overall. This story plays out much the same way Olivia Rodrigo's 'One Step Forward and Three Steps Back" song plays; because, arguably they take a step forward in their relationship then something happens, and we're back to square negative zero. So, that kind of sucked. It's still entertaining though, but do proceed with caution.
“Always. Whenever. Forever,”
I didn’t want to kiss her. I wanted to zip open my skin and tuck her into me. Hide her from the world and keep her mine.
Stahppp these two are book perfection....simply human broken damaged loveable lost and lonely ....perfect imperfections
This book isn't a perfect romance it destroys lives along the way heartbreaks left in the dust to get to the story we knew we were getting whe they were children... the casualties of them all was painful but their story was good ...even if I wanted more
Thank you to Bloom and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Unfortunately this book was just not for me. I honestly couldn’t stand Luna at all. I felt like a lot of the problems between the two of them were here fault, and then she wanted to cry about them? It just frustrated me. Knight was definitely not innocent, but to act like Luna had been pushed away by him when she had actively pushed him away was ridiculous. I still don’t get Vaughn as a character or how he is a friend to any of these people. I hated the storyline with Knight’s biological mom and her actions did not make any sense to me whatsoever. Rosie’s death was heartbreaking. I did enjoy Luna’s development as far as learning to be confident in herself and finding her voice. However, overall this book was not for me.
4.5
OMG This book was absolutely madness.
The story is completely addictive and devastating. I was heartbroken most of the book. This is not for everyone: this journey is full of aghast, sexual tension, deep engaging moments and pretty emotional ones. Their bond is as strong as toxic. Knight is not an easy character to love and Luna frustrated me to no end. But someway they work and the reader falls in love with the idea of a future together. The writing is flawless and wonderful as always from this great author.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Broken Knight by L.J. Shen is book two in the All Saints High Series. This book is such a great story!!
Knight Coke and Luna Rexroth have been best friends all their life. Knight is broken, hurting, self destructive, and doesn’t sugarcoat anything, but he loves and is very protective of Luna. She is his moonshine, his ride or die and his forever.
Luna is small and is a selective mute so she communicates by sign language. As she gets older and she goes away to college. She finds her strength and her power and it changes her. Knight who is dealing with his moms illness and addiction to drugs and alcohol is not handling the new Luna very well.
I loved how Luna’s character was written. She became strong and independent. She put her foot down with Knight and which forced him to make some changes within himself.
This book had me giggling at times, angry, sad and actually brought tears to my eyes. I really enjoyed this book and cannot wait to read this next book in the series. Thank you to Sourcebooks, Bloom Books, and NetGalley for letting me read this book in exchange for my honest opinion.
Pretty decent. Not a fan of non-HEA though and this book ends the relationship of a previous couple in a tragic way. Wouldn’t have recommended a second-gen series if that’s the approach that was taken. Also the hero was stupid like why’s he so pissed at the heroine’s actions after his own misogyny and terrible treatment. Screams double standards and hypocrisy. The writing is a little too forced, like I am the same generation as this character and I guarantee, no guy my age is this cringe and gross! The author is clearly an out-of-touch millennial who needs to dial back the gen-s slang and juvenile puns because I guarantee her white middle-aged women readership has no clue what she’s saying and honestly neither does she. Besides that, I love childhood FTL but this book really is not it- more HS bully. The heroine was the best, and I’m glad she wasn’t celibate for the hero, and also her growth was nice although I felt it was too dependent on the hero’s own issues. Lastly, alcoholism isn’t cured just like that and I felt like it was a cheap ploy to recycle that same plot point from the first-gen series. Book needed stronger plot, dynamic hero, and better writing but heroine was fine and mute disability was handled well enough.
