If you talk about angst - this book is the epitome of angst! It is the culmination of All Saints High and Sinners of Saints series. Of their feels. Their connection with one another. The distance, the extent they are willing to go for each other. This book tests their strengths, their bonds with each other as the characters go through the test of life. The hardest of them all.
I don’t know anyone who was left unmoved after reading this story! It shreds your soul into tiny little pieces! Destroys you. The author does it so gently with so much forewarning, almost cuddling you through the tenacious moments you can’t even be mad at all the torment she has put the readers through.
The characters come out stronger, closer to each other. The author almost babies the characters and readers through this difficult story.
She forces you to think, re-evaluate and inspires to cherish each precious moment. Because you get what you get, but it’s your choice what to do with it! They choose to make fireworks of what they’ve got! They choose a beautiful dream and make it come true! And they choose - to live, love and be there for each other!
The writing is beautiful and insightful, as always. It’s potent and heartbreaking.
The author gracefully makes you hold your breath, laugh, swoon, hope, and dream…but yes, definitely, cry!
Even at the hardest moments in this book through the tears, the author makes you smile - because at the main character in this book said: “ The sun will rise tomorrow. I reminded myself. It must.”
BROKEN KNIGHT All Saints #2 by L.J. Shen
This story tore my heart out and repaired it a few times before it was over. It also made me shed a lot of tears while reading and that is very difficult to do. I find I am wanting to go back and do a reread of some of the earlier books and start over again. L.J. Shen has the most wonderful way of bringing plenty of angst, heartbreak, drama, great characters you really care about, very well developed secondary characters, in a solid well written story. This is Knight and Luna's story. I listened to the audio book which is wonderfully narrated by Savannah Peachwood, Jacob Morgan, C.J. Bloom, and Christian Rummel. This is 5 stars since I can't give it more.
I LOVED THIS SO SO MUCH OMG WHAT HAVE I BEEN MISSING FROM MY LIFE! I can’t believe I haven’t read this series yet. This is AMAZING
Is everything by LJ Shen amazing? Why. Yes, yes it is! I love her 2nd generation books! Just devoured this in one sitting. Thanks to Bloom books for the ARC!
When I first started Broken Knight I didn't realize that it was book two of the series. Luckily it is a stand alone & even more lucky, for me, there are many more books in the series. So good! I just recently got into sports romance, and while I don't have a ton to compare to, this is one of the better ones for sure!! I love the chemistry & there is no lack of angst. Excited to read the other books in this series. Thank you to Sourcebooks- Bloom & NetGalley for a copy in exchange for my honest review. 4.5 stars.
Broken Knight by L. J. Shen
There are good books and then there’s this book. This book had it all and took us through so much its hard to put words to it. Every now and then a book pulls you in and doesn’t let you go, leaving you speechless. That’s this book.
This was an emotional roller coaster. You had the ups and downs, the pain of losing the ones that were supposed to stay with you, heartbreak, love and friendship from children to adults, the abandonment of a parent, and the things that make parents, well, parents. It was a lot but so worth it. It is a standalone so you don’t have to read the others to grasp this one. There are also no fillers throughout the pages. Everything happens for a reason even if the story feels like its going slow. Its all worth it.
Broken Knight is not for the faint of heart. It pulls at heartstrings, makes you laugh and see things through new eyes.
nor do I want to give too many details for fear of spoiling anything
Their friendship was forever. But what happens when feelings start to change and you can't give into those feelings?
This book made me feel things I had no right feeling. I don’t like to cry. I hate it. But boy, did this one make me cry. It completely shattered me, broke me, become a cliché, hormonal woman who cries over everything. There were part where I had to put down the book because the tears were clouding up my vision and making it impossible to read. From the first word to the last, it pulled at my heartstrings. It was a complete rollarcoaster. I cried, I laughed, I felt things for these characters that should only feel for real humans. I felt hope, life moving on, saw pieces fall together even if they don’t fit, and the most important that life needs to be lived. That you need to charish the time you have with the ones you love and not take it for granted. After finishing this book, my soul and heart will forever be changed. I cannot go on with life thinking and feeling the same I did before.
The characters are so special and real. Like I said, I felt things I should only be feeling for real humans. They are beautifully crafted, brilliantly broken, and real. Even when I wanted to yell at them for their choices, I loved them. I cannot move on between these characters.
Luna doesn’t talk. She hasn’t said a thing since her mother left her and her father with broken hearts. But she has Knight. Her best friend, her protector, her crush.
If Luna is the stable one, whereas Knight is the one to rock the boat. His self-destructing behavior is what he uses to deal with his mother’s slow descent to death. They found love, healing, and family together.
The main focus between these two, despite the love they have for each other, is how they can fix the things that’s broken and how to fit them back into their lives. I understood both sides of their pain, their resentment, and their love.
When Luna finally spoke to Knight, I had a smile through the tears because it literally meant the world to him. Seeing Luna literally find her voice was more than I could put into words. She always saw herself as someone who needed saving, but as she was finding herself, she realized she was more than capable of saving herself and standing on her own two feet. I loved watching her grow thoughout the book. She never let Knight treat her less than she was worth and you don’t hardly see that in books anymore and I was refreshing.
This had flawless writing. I felt as though I was a fly on the wall. I felt everything they felt. the ending wasn't exactly right for me, but it was perfectly Luna and Knight's. It made the book that much better because that’s what needed to happen between them. It’s a read where you cant put down the story, even though you cant see the words anymore. It’s definitely a must read especially if you like the ups and down with romances.. It will destroy you, heal you, make you cry like a baby. Its worth the pain and the joys to get to read a book so well written. If you’re a fan of L. J. Shen or just want to read a really touching book, or enjoy contemporary romance, this one's for you!
I just reviewed Broken Knight by L.J. Shen. #NetGalley

Thank you Netgalley and LJ Shen providing me with this eARC. All of these opinions are my own.
I don’t know what to think of this book, so that’s why I give it half of 5 stars. I’m very confused by the ending and I didn’t really like Knight.
It was pretty Wattpady to me as well.. I really wanted to like this book but the ending was so weird that it left me puzzled.
I LOVE a good cover! L.J. Shen ascends to new heights with this amazing work of art. Broken Knight moved me. It entertained me. I was completely captivated from cover to cover. The writing is flawless. I felt as though I’d been pulled into the story and experienced everything in real life. These characters have fully imprinted on my heart. It’s truly special when an author can draw you in this way. The characters are so special. So very special. Real, beautifully crafted, and brilliantly broken. I couldn’t love them more! The emotional impact of this story is life altering. That’s not hyperbole. I was changed after reading these gorgeous words.
"She told him not to swear by the moon because the moon changes, Luna!" This is Luna and Knight, both changing, both broken. This can be read as a stand alone but I would highly suggest reading from the beginning to give you the whole picture of who the family and friends are..
This story is about Luna and Knight and their off and on again love affair. Its also about family, and going thru devastating loss . I agree with other reviewers, I think this is the best one of Shens books. It ran the gammit, anger, sadness, tears, frustration, funny, all the emotions. It was a page turner from the first chapter. Definitely recommend this one!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Knight Cole is head over heels for the girl next door and wants to be her ‘Knight’ in shining armor. Ever since they were kids he has always been there to save and protect her. But she keeps refusing his advances and he decides that he’s tired of feeling rejected and decides to quit pursuing her, but deep down he knows she is the only one he really wants.
Luna Rexroth wants one boy, the boy next door. She has struggled for years with being called a freak and trying to find her place in the world. When she leaves for college, she comes out of her shell and eventually she gets what she needs to heal and speak her truth. She no longer needs the protection she once needed.
Oh, my heart… Knight Cole. Sweet, broken Knight. He lives up to the title of this book. He truly is broken. He goes through so many things in this book that you can’t help but be broken right alongside him and forgive him for the mistakes he made. He hides behind humor and pretends that everything is okay, when really he is spiraling down and down. Luna makes mistakes throughout this book as well, but she is perfect for Knight. She is there for him at a time in his life where he needs her the most and when he’s hit rock bottom. Their relationship is adorable and they are one of my favorite couples!! I felt every emotion in this book. I laughed, I cried, I was heartbroken, and happy.
𝘉𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯 𝘒𝘯𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 is a tale of love and forgiveness among uncertainty and heartache.
Luna and Knight's story is an intimate expanse of the people they are and how it shapes their actions and decisions.
Despite the ups and downs, they've stood true to their love and chosen each other repeatedly which's led to a great storyline with the perfect punches and an overall great symmetry of cast.

I just started reading L.J. Shen at the beginning of this year and every book I read I love her more and more!! This is the second book in the All Saints High Series. I absolutely fell in love with the characters and their families. This book will make you laugh, cry , and have some rage. You will also love how it can be sexy and heartfelt too. This book has a little bit of everything in it and you will want more!! This is a wonderful book and I HIGHLY recommend it!! I can't wait to read the rest of this series!
Thank you NetGalley and SOURCEBOOKS Bloom Books, Bloom Books for allowing me to read this ARC for my honest opinion.
Angst to the max!!
Not just any angst, TEENAGE (/early 20s) angst. It's the most raw hurtful kind. This is chock full of hurt, betrayal, lies, and miscommunication. It's gut-twisting.
I mostly wanted to always punch Knight in the face (or throat or balls, wherever) for being an awful douchecanoe. I always wanted to give Luna a huge hug.
This was a total rollercoaster. I am wrung out. But it was definitely worth the ride.
Congrats to LJ Shen for delivering another book full of every single extreme emotion out there. I was on the edge of my heart and sanity at all times. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment because I couldn't put it down.
I am so glad that Luna and Knight got their own story, because they were the characters that intrigued me the most from the first book. The narrative throughout this story is beautifully fractured, with chapters that delve into their complex past and the challenges they've faced. It's a tale of love and longing, but also one of personal growth and healing.
L.J. Shen's writing shines in her ability to create multifaceted characters. Luna and Knight are flawed, relatable, and their individual struggles add depth to the story. As they come to terms with their own battles and heartaches, you can't help but root for them.
The book's exploration of love's complexities and the idea that sometimes people need to grow apart before they can grow together is both poignant and realistic. It's a reminder that not all love stories have a fairy-tale ending, but that doesn't make them any less beautiful or meaningful.
Some of the story felt a bit slow, and the fractured narrative, while unique, may not be everyone's taste. However, the emotional depth and the character development more than make up for it.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
4/5 stars
4/5 Stars!
Ok this book was HEAVYYYYYY. But I could not put it down! Something about second chance romance and friendships really pulls the mess out of my heartstrings, and this book did just that.
I'm not going to lie at first, this was almost a DNF. Knight was just really gross to me and was really pissing me off the whole time– I also really hate when characters are SO dependent on each other and I struggled to get past it. I had no clue where this book was going though or just how strongly it would take a left turn into such valuable life lessons though and that to me was the saving grace of this book. This was also another one of those books where you think your like 75% done at one point only to check and only be 49%. LOL. It was a good feeling though and it really paid off.
The only downside i had about this book was that...I started thinking too hard and all of this was happening while Knight was like 17/18 and Luna was 18/19.....I just feel like this would've ATE down for me if they were 21/22 or so. I know thats not a big age gap, but when i finished and realized Knight had done all this at like 17 and that was....a bit strange cause i kept imagining them so much older. (I know this is like a high school romance obviously, but my brain was strugglin still nonetheless.) Like this as a college story??? Yeah. Would've ate and been a 5/5 for me!
Overall, I really enjoyed this book. I think im going to go dive into the other books in the series as well, because this read so well and had so many valuable life lessons and character development. LOVE to see it.
There are no stars out there that can rank Broken Knight. It's so much more than just a love story between two childhood friends. The hurt, the pain, the betrayal, the jealousy, the brokenness, and last but not least, the love. Everything is like perfect! I assumed about one thing, and I was right. Made me so mad. A lot of miscommunication that leads to another. I just love Knight so much! My heart aches for him. The ending was really bittersweet. There are really no words to describe how amazing it is. You just have to read it and feel it yourself. LJ hit it out of the park with this one. You see how much thought and effort was put into this. Pretty Reckless was my favorite read, but now it's Broken Knight. 😭😭😭 You just need LOTS OF TISSUES!!!
L.J. Shen is a must-read author in the romance world and if you haven't read one or more of her books, you're missing out. She has a way of drawing you in from the beginning, making you want to read until you've finished the book. I picked up one of her books years ago and set out to read each and every book she has ever written and at that point, I read each and every one within a few weeks. This book is a continuation of a previous series but involves the children of her prior characters. While you do not have to read the previous series, it is highly recommended as it will help you understand a little bit more.
Luna Rexroth and Knight Cole have known each other their whole lives. Luna Rexroth is a quiet, tomboy who loves spending her time with her family and friends. She is also in love with Knight Cole. Knight Cole is a beloved football player, who is known as a player, but he has a secret and it's not what you'd expect. Knight only has eyes for Luna and will stop at nothing to make her his. Can they work through everything and make their love for one another work or will tragedy strike, separating them for good? A must-read book in a must-read series that will leave you wanting more and more. As always, ends with a HEA.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the free copy of Broken Knight by L.J. Shen in exchange for my honest review.
Disclaimer - I'm an LJ Shen fan. I have read all of her books. I was WAITING for a part of this story since way back in Vicious. This story is a real tearjerker but the author let's you know it's coming so at least there's that. Now for the review...
Knight is broken. And then you say duh. Isn't that obvious? Knight is broken for many reasons. He is a genuine bad boy but he's also love and light and goodness. He's very complex. Luna is mute so she has spent her life hiding and letting Knight protect her. This isn't their love story because they start the story already deeply in love. This is a story of two very damaged people finding their strength through hard work and family. It's one heck of a journey. It's full of people being mean. People being loving. People breaking only to pull themselves back together. People making decisions and owning them. It is heartbreaking and life affirming. And there are some amazing moments of clarity where the characters spoke directly to me. And oddly enough that's not me being over the top!
If you have read the Sinners Of Saint and All Saints books then you will love that all (well most) of the main characters are all in here! They are truly a part of this journey not just small cameos. Some new characters get introduced to the mix and that's pretty exciting (I'm not going to say more on that because potential spoilers!).
I would recommend this story to anyone but I will give fair warning with that recommendation. If you haven't read the other books, I don't think it will be as impactful. If you are sensitive to alcohol and drug abuse, this might not be your kind of book. If you can't handle sick parents, avoid, avoid! Knight and Luna do not have a healthy relationship during a large part of the story so read with caution.
Bottom line...love love this book even if it was a multi-tissue event!!
4 Stars for these two broken souls
I liked Luna and Knight enough ... but I just didn't love them. I thought Knight was too arrogant to be stuck on one girl. What did he expect Luna to do when he flirted with all the girls? Although I really like angst, I thought it was a bit too much back and forth. But there were some twists and turns that had me saying WTF.
Knight has been in love with Luna since he was a child. He's the popular quarterback of All Saints High and girls are constantly falling at his feet. Luna's mother walked out on her when she was two and Luna hasn't spoken since. She has a small circle of close friends and they all learned sign language so they could communicate with her. Luna is a year older than Knight and wants to go to a college close by while Knight finishes high school. But when pictures of Knight and a girl are all over social media saying they are a couple, Luna and Knight's lives will never be the same. With one bad decision after another, it's beginning to look like Luna and Knight will never be a couple.
