Not my favorite of the All Saints High but I did love the connection between Luna and Knight. Has all the normal angst you would expect from an LJ shen
I loved this...until the last two chapters.
Even though Book 2 wasn't as wild as the first, this story tugged my heartstrings.
I still plan to finish the series, but I really hope it doesn't have the same ending in the next two books.
Thank you Netgalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
At this point, I will read anything by this author and gobble it up! We have another broken bad boy - Knight Cole ladies and gents! He has a bad problem with addiction, and honestly rightly so, as his adoptive mom is dying from cystic fibrosis. It was so good to revisit some of the characters from Shen's previous All Saints High books = now from the perspective of their children. I balled my eyes out when Rosie died, and again and again and again.- both sad and happy tears. Although it wasn't a perfect book per se, Shen is such a wonderful writer of romances with rich characters and awe-inspiring plots. Her books heal my heart every time I read them. Ride or die, Shen. I will read every one of your books faithfully.
Luna and Knight were childhood best friends, they did everything together. Luna had selective mutism and he defended her from those who would gossip about her. Knight had a rage like no other, but Luna appeared to be a calming presence in his life. As the two grew, so did their feelings, but Luna was not ready to give in - she knew the heartbreak it would cause. Knight was not ready to let her go but also played the part of looking like All Saint's playboy. One night after a party, which included Luna getting jealous seeing Knight with a girl and slapping him, Vaughn, Knight's best friend, tells Luna she's holding him back and to go to college across the country. She leaves wordlessly and for a while does not hear from her so-called best friend. The night before going home for Thanksgiving, Luna sees a social media post that destroys her and she decides to find a new focus - Josh, a classmate who also doesn't speak. Luna gives the Josh her virginity and immediately regrets it. Knight is ready to tell Luna he's all in, the social media post - and the girl in said post Poppy - were nothing, and he is willing to do a long-distance relationship. Knight finds out about Josh and loses his ever-loving shit and the already shaky friendship crumbles. Knight becomes Luna's bully and as other parts of their past come to life, Luna gains one gift - her gift of voice, and she has a lot to say - specifically to Knight.
This dual POV book starts when they're small kids and then fast forwards to present day. Luna is meek, does not speak, only signs, but Knight knows how to read her. Knight holds a darkness that Luna tries to make light. The character development from the beginning to the end is insane. Luna gets stronger and stronger while Knight spirals until he hits rock bottom and loses everything - including the girl. This isn't just a love story though, there are other themes like adoption, loss of a chronically ill parent. I did not think I was going to like Knight, but I adore that fragile little soul.
This book sucked me in from the beginning, I finished it a lot quicker than anticipated. This was my first LJ Shen book and definitely will not be my last.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
Broken Knight is the next generation from the sinners of saints series. Here we have Knight, Dean and Rosie’s son, and Luna, Trent’s daughter.
Friends since childhood Knight has always been Luna’s protecter, after misunderstandings their friendship fell apart. Now grown up Knight is dealing with a heartbreaking situation and not coping well.
This story is them both coming together to support each other, there are still misunderstandings still but the connection is deep. As they navigate this emotional minefield which at times is tear jerking and heart pounding you are turning each page desperate for them both to find some sort of peace. If this synopsis sounds sketchy its because I don’t wish to give anything away, if you’ve read the previous books you will understand.
A hard hitting book that at times leaves you frustrated with our two leads but one that in engrossing and a page turner.
My thanks to net galley and publisher for the opportunity to review this book honestly
BK by L.J. Shen, published by Sourcebooks Bloom Books, is the second book in the All Saints High Series. While a stand-alone there are cross-overs to Dean's story and I recommend to read the books in order.
Luna is a sweet and caring person, as if all fake. The pretended tomboy knows exactly what she wants and how to get it.
Knight is athletic, ruthless and was always her protector. Now she doesn't need his protection anymore, and not all knights are heroes.
BK is an highly emotional read, be warned, you'll need tissues. A touching, gives all the feeelings story that I can't get enough of.
Forget what Your momma EVER told You... Forget about EVERYTHING what father has tried to learn You all damn life BECAUSE when Broken Knight will knock at Your door... „EVERYTHING” will turn upside down.
Hands down Mrs. Shen, You just broke the system …AGAIN. Saying „I have no words to describe how much I love this book” would be so inadequate.…. seriously, my heart is empty and feeling very lonely… Maybe I’m almost 40 yrs old, and someone colud say that I'm full of bullsh*t because Todos Santos is only immaginary place and characters, but today I’m not ready to say goodbye for this story and for Knight.
The whole world already knew - Broken Knight is LJ's bookish baby, so IT can't be anything less that million stars masterpiece, right? But Broken Knight is so much more, L. J. Shen shamelessly created PURE PERFECTION with new rank, for every future book with category " Broken Knight" and the rest of the stories which want to be… Broken Knight. I won’t tell You too much about Kinght or even Luna, about plot, twists, ups and downs, take my advice and go blind into this book as much as only You can be … blind. When the right time shows up – grab Your book, start to read and savour every moment – this adventure will be really speciall from the beginning till seeing „the end” in front of Your eyes.
Broken Knight is ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS I’VE EVER READ and ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS YOU WILL EVER READ. Please, forgive me all this capitals letters, all „…..” and „!!!!!!!” because once You’ll start this book You will understand how I was feeling writting my review… after hooking up with Broken Knight.
Brace Yourself and Buckle Up Ladies– Knight Cole is coming, at least try to be ready for this journey.... even if You're not !
3.5⭐️. Ride or Die… i was engrossed in this book. i finished it in one sitting. i love that Luna was able to find herself and establish herself. i really wish we got more of them being together actually instead of all the angst but the angst was soooo good.
Luna and Knight have been best friends for years. Although they had three missed connections for it to be more, they still yearn for each other.
LJ Shen knows how to bring an angsty romance to life. This book is second in the All Saints High series (they can all be read as stand alone) and is the second generation to Shen's former series. So this packs a punch of seeing adult versions of previous characters while giving a super angsty NA romance.
I liked the progression of Luna the most in this. She is a selective mute because of childhood trauma. Seeing her gain confidence and working through her own trauma was great. I did love Knight although I wanted him to just suck it up and talk to Luna more. This is such a missed connections book. Luna and Knight needed to talk more but the pay off of watching them finally come together was worth the reader's anxiety.
This was a really good angsty romance!
Thank you to the author and publisher for the gifted copy. My reviews are always honest,
"Not all love stories are written the same way. Ours had torn chapters, missing paragraphs, and a bittersweet ending."
The book was full of misunderstandings and lack of communication between Luna and Knight. They were best friends since they were children. Their parents are wealthy and they're surrounded with money.
LJ Shen has created a world about these characters that I just can't get enough of. I loved both Luna and Knights parents!
This story takes place when they're in highschool. Luna is mute but Knight doesn't let her feel any less because of that and I loved that part ❤️
Overall I feel that many situations could have been avoided if Luna and Knight properly conveyed their feelings for each other.
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom for this free arc in return for an honest review,
Unfortunately this book was not for me at all. I saw a spoiler on tiktok that contained cheating and pregnancy tropes and instantly dreaded reading this. The spoilers were true. Its very cheesy and a whole lotta 'what did he say' moments.
if you like these tropes then this is definitely for you tho!
The All Saints High series is becoming my favorite book series of all time. I was in the mood to read an emotional book and Broken Knight succeeded in leaving me an emotional wreck. The emotions were high, Luna and Knight go through a lot of miscommunication throughout the book but I didn’t care. I was so engrossed in this book I read it in one day, I did not want it to finish. Lots of heavy topics, TWs include addiction, overdose, death, adoption, parent abandonment, sexual assault
I thought I would love this book based on the glowing reviews, but I could not. I have read Vicious, so I was already familiar with the characters, but it just did not click for me. Maybe because the story has a slow start? Also I'm not a fan of authors continuing stories through a second generation. A lot of the interactions seemed really juvenile for a new adult book. I received an ARC through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Wow this book was great! This was a masterpiece. I loved the first book in this series, but I think this one is now my new favorite. L.J. Shen never disappoints! Broken Knight was entertaining, a little sexy, a little sweet, and just amazing! I can’t wait to read more from this author.
“Always. Whenever. Forever.”
Thank you NetGalley and Bloom Books for the arc of this book.
Thanks to NetGalley and L.J Shen for letting me read this ARC of Broken Knight! I really enjoyed this slow burn, friends to lovers with a touch of enemies to lovers! I loved that this book flipped back between their childhood/now and also was multiple POV. I read this in one sitting! This was my first book from L.J Shen but won’t be my last!
This was such a beautiful book! The characters in this story tugged at my heartstrings and kept staying in my head till the very end. There were a couple of suspenseful moments in this read, but at its core it was a wonderful love story between childhood friends. The spicy scenes between the two main characters also had me swooning across every page! Off the charts! I cannot wait to read the next installment in this series. So, so much fun and would definitely recommend to any romance book lover!
Luna is a wallfower even though she is all fire inside. Knight is football hero with many difficult issues to work through. They are best friends and secretly love each other.
Love Luna and Knight together. Very heartbreaking, angsty and romantic. Great characters... terrific pacing.
Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
Hooked from the first chapter. It was truly a great book that teaches the reader about mental health and heartbreak but also about love in all forms. Luna’s journey was inspiring and had me falling in love with her from the start. Knight is hard to love until the end due to his pain and anger but I couldn’t help but eventually root for him to fight for his heart.
I gave it 3 stars because I didn’t love Knight for most of the book even though I think that is the point. Good storylines and a great journey for all of the characters but a few plot lines I think could have been taken further to really give the extra impact.
I loved this book! No matter how toxic they were against each other. You always knew that had a love for each other that they could never forget. And the ending also get love with you get a complete ending knowing how the couple ends up!
As I finished the very last page of BROKEN KNIGHT, tears streaming down my face, I knew that I would never have adequate words to do this book justice.
Knight and Luna have been best friends their whole lives and they have a relationship that many of those around them don't understand. Their story is utterly heartbreaking in parts, especially with the hurt they cause each other as they attempt to navigate the changes in their friendship. I have been a huge fan of LJ Shen for a long time, particularly the SINNERS OF SAINT series (which centres around their parents) and I truly believe that this is her best work to date. Hands down.
