Wow. This series was everything I was hoping for and more. It was dark, suspenseful, spicy and absolutely unhinged. Mara visits and embraces her darkside in this finale, while we see a ever so slightly lighter side to Cole.
The audio was amazing, I absolutely loved listening to Lee Daniels and Jeffrey Holz narrate this story. They really embodied these two and I already can't wait to listen again.
I really loved the character development for both Mara and Cole. We watched what little humanity Cole was capable of possessing come out for mara and in turn Cole showed Mara that she was darker than she knew and taught her the ways of the unhinged. Together they became something spectacular to watch.
The 3rd act was filled with a lot of action and had me on the edge of my seat as I listened to it. I figured I knew the ultimate end game since it has a happily ever after, but I was very unsure on how exactly we were going to get there for a minute. It was so good.
I can't believe this duet is over... I want more so badly! I just love Sophie and her writing to bits.
Thank you for giving me this arc!!!
The second book in the series is slightly better. The writing is more paced but the ending was not it for me. I still had a hard time liking the Cole.
I read this book after reading the first. The first I got through fairly quickly, this one took me a while. The MCs still acted exactly the same. I had been hoping that they mightโve matured since the first book but they were exactly the same so it just felt boring to read.
The book wasnโt necessarily bad to me. I just felt like it was really cringey at some points. And I also realize that the book was probably meant for people who really like smut. Iโm okay with smut but I do have a limit to how much I want to read and it happened so often in the book that I had to skip some scenes and chapters because it was getting repetitive. Itโs also funny how when youโre reading these scenes and they seem sexy and then you re-read them or read them out loud and they become the most cringey thing you have ever read.
I used to be Mara the victim. Mara the damaged. Mara the disposable. The day I met Cole, I was dying. Maybe I did die. Through Cole, I was reborn. Now I'm Mara the artist. Mara the star. Mara the unbreakable.
Thank you Sophie Lark, NetGalley and Bloom Books, for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review! All thoughts are my own and left voluntarily.
Rating: again 2.5 โญ
I most definitely am in minority here. I still don't care about characters, but the way how humorous this feels for me is why I kept the same rating as before. I was entertained for the wrong reasons.
As we can see from the quote, Mara is the best version of herself in this book:
He wants to select what I eat, what I drink, what I wear. He wants to choose better than I could choose myself so I won't fight him, so I'll submit to him. Each time I accept one of his choices, I see the glint of triumph in his eyes. This is how he intends to tame me. I'm not an easy pet. I'm wild and feral. What I want is capricious; it changes every moment.
You go Queen!
Meanwhile, Cole is busy making coffee, having clay sex with her and stuffing her with cheese so he can drown in her breasts or something. Whole story felt like a filler episode. I don't know what to tell you. I will leave you with this gem:
"Eat my pussy, Daddy ... send me into outer space ..."
I.. I can't.
Thank you Netgalley and bloom for this free arc in return for an honest review.
This epic closure of the Sinner Duet was very lack lustre. I was expecting more. More action. More spice. Just something more. It felt very rushed towards the end. I got to 80% and the final scene hadnโt even started yet. I felt like a lot more could have been explained/closed off to complete this duet.
With all that being said, if youโre after a quick easy duet to read (these were 300 pages each) these are perfect for you. If youโre after a full rounded story with action, spice and no plot holes, then maybe check out something else ๐
After finishing book one I was so hyped to read the conclusion. Book one was like being in the center of a hurricane. Turbulent, suspenseful, completely unhinged. This book was more like a cloudy day. The dark chaotic energy from book one was just not here. While I completely expected Mara's and Cole's behavior to change now they found each other, I didn't think there would be a complete tone change from book one to book two. While this is a rather satisfying conclusion to the story I wanted just a little bit more.
Listen. I could not stop reading these books. I read both books in less than 24 hours and almost neglected my family. It was completely addicting, morally grey and had enough of thriller, suspense and romance that I NEEDED to know what was going to happen next. I am going to live with these in my head for quite some time.
I recommend reading without knowing much about the context and just taking the ride as it comes. Book one makes you question everything and book two makes you like them both...as much as you can.
Sophie Lark's "There Is No Devil" is a captivating romance novel that skillfully weaves themes of redemption, love, and personal growth into an emotionally charged narrative.
At the heart of this novel is a compelling love story that transcends the boundaries of past mistakes (murder) and parental expectations. The characters are beautifully crafted, with their flaws and vulnerabilities laid bare. The protagonists' journey toward redemption and self-acceptance is both touching and relatable, drawing readers into their world and making them deeply invested in their happiness.
Lark's storytelling is both tender and evocative. She navigates the complexities of her characters' emotions with finesse, allowing readers to experience their joy, pain, and growth firsthand. The dialogue is genuine and heartfelt, enhancing the chemistry and connection between the characters.
The plot is well-structured, blending elements of romance, suspense, corruption and self-discovery. Lark's exploration of the theme of redemption is particularly well-executed, adding depth to the narrative. The pacing is generally good, with moments of tension and tenderness expertly balanced.
While "There Is No Devil" excels in many aspects, it may not be for readers seeking a purely lighthearted or conventional romance. The story grapples with heavy themes, including forgiveness and personal transformation, which may require a more reflective and emotionally engaged reading experience.
In conclusion, "There Is No Devil" is a compelling romance novel that stands out for its exploration of redemption, corruption and love. Sophie Lark's skillful character development and emotionally resonant storytelling make it a highly recommended read.
There Is No Devil is a great end to a series. I always fall in love with Sophie Lark's writing and I never want to put her books down from the suspense and amazing romance. I did feel like I didn't enjoy this as much as the first book however I loved seeing everything wrap up and learn more about Cole and Mara and seeing how their love story ends. I really highly recommend to any dark romance lovers who like a bit of suspense and tension and a unique love story.
Twas a good wrap up to the series. However, I believe this could have been one book instead of two. I felt like this book dragged out the inevitable.
Suffice to say, this book was not nearly as good as the first. I really enjoyed the first one. I love a good cat-and-mouse dynamic with love interests and I loved Coleโs utterly black heart and Maraโs stubborn resistance to live a life half full, and I loved the artistry aspect of it too. The second installment in this duo isโฆ lacking. A lot. The sex is not it and wasnโt really entertaining to read, nothing actually happens for 3/4 of the book, and the two main characters are just soโฆ different. Not even โcharacter growth and developmentโ different, just plain different. All in all, I wouldโve been fine if the first book had been longer and wrapped things up then, because this novel was honestly unnecessary other than the loose end it tied up (again, at the very END of the book). All in all, not my cup of tea, but I would like to thank Netgalley for the ARC!
This is a gripping romantic suspense that keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. While it doesn't quite reach the pinnacle of 5 stars for me, it is undeniably a thrilling and well-crafted story.
One of the standout elements of this novel is Larkโs skillful storytelling. She weaves a complex web of intrigue and danger, blending romance and suspense seamlessly. The pacing is excellent, with each chapter leaving you eager to turn the next page. The plot twists are expertly executed, keeping you guessing and ensuring that the suspense remains high throughout the story.
The characters are well developed and multi-dimensional. The chemistry between the two protagonists is palpable and adds depth to the narrative. Lark does a commendable job of balancing the romance and suspense allowing us to become emotionally invested in their relationship.
4/5 stars

There Is No Devil is book 2 of the Sinners Duet and perfectly wraps up Cole and Maraโs story. The first half of this book is all about developing Cole and Maraโs relationship and learning more about their past trauma and why they are the way they are. The character development here is strong, their relationship is beyond intense, and the spice amps up a bit. The second half revolves around their deadly game and showdown with Shaw and brings back some of the great suspense and twists I enjoyed so much in the first book. The pacing with There Is No Devil did feel a bit off in some places and I found myself wondering if this might have been better as 1 longer book instead of a duet. But overall, I loved Cole and Maraโs story and really enjoyed the ending! 4โญ๏ธ

There is no Devil is the continuation of There are no Saints, picking up where we left off. Once again, we follow Mara and Coleโs disrupted journey to a form of happiness that suits each of their peculiarities. This was a great conclusion to the duology, and I definitely feel it was a good decision to split the story into two books.
As always Sophie Lark knows how to write suspenseful and dark romances which are better appreciated with no spoilers beforehand, so this review seems really short.
Thank you for the eARC! Sophieโs books donโt disappoint.
The second book in this series is even better than the first! Compelling, gripping and dramatic! I fell even more in love with Cole and Mara as they learned more about each other and themselves on their journey through past terrors and into not only accepting but loving all parts of themselves and each other. Highly recommend; 5 ๐ ; looking forward to more of her work!
after narrowly avoiding everything that went down in โthere are no saintsโ, Mara is now staying at Coleโs house โ the only place he can keep her safe. But Shaw is still out there. as Mara starts knocking down Coleโs walls, should they have been up all along to protect her?
i โฆ i liked this more than the first book but still wasnโt โฆ thrilled with it. mara got her revenge which is great. cole became more three dimensional โฆ also cool. but i still feel like something was missing.
The second half of the duet begins immediately after the first half ends without losing any of the steam or motivation.
As Alastor ramps up the conflict after seeing Mara alive and well, and in the hands of Cole. Lark masterfully writes an intense cat-and-mouse chase that honestly left me wanting more even after finishing the book.
Mara and Cole become a force to be reckoned with and complement each other perfectly. It was impossible to not root for these two as they handle business and beyond. We see Mara grow into a player of the game, instead of a pawn to play with.
Coles calculated, lethal dark side was significantly more tangible and real in the second half as we got lulled into a false sense of safety with him and his interactions with Mara after his obsession struck a match. However, I enjoyed seeing how their relationship grew and deepened and it felt authentic. The moments where they told their deepest traumas felt raw as they allowed their most vulnerable selves comes through.
I would absolutely beg on my hands and knees to see more of Alastor in these books but it was way too satisfying to see him along with Maraโs family get what they deserved in the end.
I was completely and utterly enthralled with this duet! I read both books in a day and I donโt regret it! I needed a good plot line to get my out of a book funk and Cole and Mara were the perfect couple to do it!
I love that in the end Cole gave Mara a power she didnโt know she possessed! I love that in the end she reached into his cold, black, dead heart and brought it to life and together they become unstoppable. He didnโt tear her down or use her weaknesses against her. He raised her up and made her stronger than sheโs ever been. He used her scars to create a woman who would not be controlled ever again!
These two were simply beautiful which when talking about a dark romance seems odd but when you fully realize their journey you canโt help but marvel at them!
I first want to thank Sophie Lark and NetGalley for this ARC eBook edition.
I loved being able to revisit Cole and Mara! A lot of people said this book was slow but to me we got more in-depth details into their lives. So, I absolutely love this! Mara absolutely stole the show and captivated everyone, and I adored that Cole was happy to let it be that way. It warmed my heart so much! Where is my Cole!!!
Oooo this one too. I loved how evil I felt alone in the dark reading about the things these people think and do. Thank you netgalley.
