Thank you to NetGalley and SourceBooks Bloom Books for providing with an eARC of There Is No Devil in return for my honest opinon.
I really enjoyed the first book in this duet There Are No Saints but unfortunately There Is No Devil just missed the mark for me. I felt like we lost a lot of the things from the first book that made it so great in the second book. It felt like the main characters Cole and Mara's personalities were completely different (and not in a good way) which made the book a lot less entertaining.
It felt like the first two thirds of this book were a bit of filler for the big dramatic ending where the plot really starts to pick up and gets interesting. This being said I also didn't love the ending and I'm very tempted to pretend that the first book was a standalone.
Thank you for this free ARC, the opinions that follow are my own.
This is one of the hardest tropes in the romance genre to get right and Sophie Lark absolutely sets the standard with this series. I read this book so quickly, I could not put it down! I really love how it ended too — a fitting end for an epic love story!
Sometimes you stumble across a book (or, in this case, a duet) that just hits all of the right notes in ways you never could have anticipated. The Sinners Duet by Sophie Lark are those kind of books.
There Are No Saints masterfully sets the stage for this dark romance story where the male protagonist is quite literally a serial unaliver. Lark’s unraveling of his character is utterly fascinating, and she crafts a story in which you can’t help but be captivated by him and with his burgeoning connection to Mara, the female protagonist. Mara is captivating in her own right, and Lark does a fantastic job laying the groundwork for an unorthodox relationship between the two.
There Is No Devil then takes this tenuous connection and tests it, as the antagonist from book one ramps up the conflict. The cat-and-mouse tension is great, and readers are able to witness the ways in which Mara and Cole complement each other; you can’t help but root for them.
In all, this is one of the best dark duets I’ve ever read. Add in the illustrations, and it tips these books over that edge.
Thanks to Bloom Books and NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This duet was great, the second installment did not disappoint. We get a lot more of both of these characters back stories in this second book, which I really annoyed. Mara and Cole are great together, meant for eachother. The themes of this book are not for the faint of heart but as a dark romance reader I really enjoyed this!
The artwork included was great as always. Sophie Lark doesn’t disappoint in her writing. There isn’t a book of hers I have not enjoyed. Perfect little duet to get into the fall spooky season.
What an ENDING. This is book 2 in the sinners duet. And oh, my God, as I’m writing this review, I’m genuinely speechless. I was gripping the page! I had to go in another room just to finish it so I would have zero distractions. This wrapped up exactly how I would wanted it to. The spice that you get in this book is next level, the drama between Cole, Mara, and Alastair was so good. Not to mention aesthetically these covers, and the illustrations inside are just perfect. And personally, as a Kindle girl I love that I get to experience the same pretty covers, just on my kindle.
4 stars!
In some ways, I felt the same hesitancies with this book that I did the first, but it also redeemed itself in a lot of ways. Specifically, I felt like Cole's darkness felt more realistic and tangible in this one. With the first, I felt like we were missing that side of him and I didn't really experience the dangerous or grey side of him that I wanted or expected there to be. While I was let down about that in this first, this was definitely fixed in this story and you could clearly see how dark he was and how far he was willing to go for Mara. Their relationship also felt like it was redeemed for me. You could see the two of them understanding the other more and more and I really liked seeing Mara's character ARC in this as she ventured to that dark side with him. I was happy to see how their relationship developed and formed in this; it felt authentic, raw, and vulnerable. The ending was also satisfying and felt realistic, so happy with that note too.
Overall, I enjoyed this duology. I think this second book definitely saved the story and made it what it was supposed to be. I loved Lark's writing in this and thought that her idea was super unique. Hoping to see more of this in her future work. I felt like her writing style really came out in this!!
Thank you to Sourcebooks Bloom for the chance to give my honest opinion!
Again, Sophie Lark has me in a chokehold! I couldn't put this book down.
There Is No Devil is the second instalment in the duet. After I read the first book, I was dying to read the next and it did not disappoint!
The characters were still well written and their chemistry/tension was through the roof despite the stalking element being removed. The stakes are higher in this book, it is well a truly life or death for all characters.
The book, again, contained both a musical score and images to go along with several scenes. I loved this and the added immersion it created. I'm a huge fan of illustrations within books.
As with the first instalment, it is definitely a book that you need to read the trigger warnings for as the book discusses mental health, abuse and manipulation. Along with most other things you would expect from a dark romance. However, if you've read the first book - you should already know what you're getting yourself into!
I loved this book. I really sympathised with Mara and frankly, I'm proud of her. She overcame her demons and did what was needed to ensure a happy future.
I did find the beginning a little bit slow, but it was made up for with the ending. At one point I was worried it would be too simple, but it was perfect.
Wow what a book! I was on the edge of my seat the entire book and I freaking loved it! Since this is a dark romance please check trigger warnings before reading! I am so glad that we got to see a darker side of Mara! It was amazing to see! I also loved how darn supportive Cole was. It seemed like he was her hype person, always backing her up and supporting her to be more confident. Also the playlist was awesome!! The Sinners duet is overall amazing!
Thank you for the ARC Netgalley!
This book is the second instalment in the duet and is not a stand-alone.
The previous book is There Are No Sai., the beginning of Mara and Cole's story.
The story picks up where TANS was left off. Mara and Cole left, are in a luxurious mansion. Cole is determined to win Mara for himself and on his terms.
Mara loves playing his game.
I loved the push and pull between the two, the attraction you can feel between the pages. A great conclusion, 4,5 stars.
There Is No Devil by Sophie Lark is the second in a duology and picks up right where There Are No Saints leaves off. Cole and Mara are in deeper than ever, their love their mutual obsession, but now Cole is determined to keep Mara safe from Shaw, the serial killer turned artist who has Mara in his sights. The police are watching Cole closely, believing him to be the killer they're after, while Shaw somehow stays squeaky clean. So Cole and Mara take things into their own hands, determined to end this the only way it'll ever end: with Shaw's death.
Again, this one is not for the faint of heart. It has incredibly dark themes, and we get an even more detailed look into Mara's traumatic and abusive past. Cole is a living, breathing monster whose only soft spot is Mara. But being a monster helps when you're facing one--Shaw doesn't stand a chance.
In some ways, I feel like this one was less horrific than the first book--or maybe I was just more used to the casual violence. If dark romance is your cup of tea, then you will love both books in this incredibly dark, shockingly twisted duology. The characters have depth, and despite his sociopathic nature, Cole's character arc shows some actual growth. He isn't as completely devoid of humanity as he would like to think.
I did not enjoy the 2nd part as much as the first. It was quite slow and nothing was happening in the first half of the book, however it does pick up after.
I liked how Cole and Mara's relationship bloomed and how much they enjoyed each other's company and how Cole spoiled her like crazy. I mean, the guy literally kills for her.
P.S. Carbonara does not have peas in it!!! SOPHIE HOW COULD YOU??
Look.. murder is objectively bad, right? We can all agree on that? But Cole makes it sexy so it’s ok :)
There Is No Devil 4/5 - the second book in the series is just as dark and twisted as the first and for all my fucked up babies.. you’re going to love it. Mara and Cole’s relationship is honestly perfect, they complete each other and I will support their Bonnie and Clyde escapades till my dying breath bc they deserve each other! It might not be the best way to deal with things but it gets shit done and who wouldn’t want revenge on the bastards that haunt their lives?? Revenge is healing AND sexy.
Not the second half I was expecting...
I thoroughly enjoyed the first book; however, I felt this one was so much slower and not as exciting. About 3/4 of the book was the main characters doing nothing but spicy things (iykyk) but none of the scenes really added to the story. With that being said, my main complaint is that the MMC lost a bit of his sociopathic characteristics and I felt like he wasn't himself anymore. I'm all for bad boys changing for their girl but something felt... off.
Recommended for NA readers who want less plot, more spice and a HEA.
Yessssssssssssss this is even better than the first.
The smut.
The love.
The art.
The music.
The murrdurr.
So good.
I highly recommend this book. It follows Mara and Cole and their quest for redemption against Shaw. This is a wonderful duet for fans of dark romance.
I absolutely loved this book! Love this author and she's always a one click for me! Thabjs Netgalley for the ARC
Yet another Sophie Lark Banger!!! This one is definitely the hardest duet I have read from her. It deals with a lot of serious topics. I think my only downside is that We need more Mara and Cole. But other than that this book is perfection.

yes and i'm still madly in love with Cole, even more than before. there's nothing i can do about it,
please choose me pick me!🙏🏻
This was definitely the ending we deserved! This book was fantastic!! I loved that we got to see more of Cole and Mara’s story. Thank you, Sophie Lark!
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Bloom Books for the arc of this book.
This is the conclusion to the Sinners Duet, and it ends with a bang. I think this book shows the growth and character development of both Cole and Mara. Mara really comes into her power and embraces her dark side, which I really liked, while Cole opened up to Mara about his dark past. Cole and Mara bond over their pasts and the things that happened to them and we get to see why Cole became a serial killer and what happened with Mara and her parents. I liked seeing their relationship go deeper than what it was in the first book, and there's more trust and emotions. There is even more spice in this one, and there are still dark romance themes in this final book, so be aware before reading this. The Shaw plot wraps up everything nicely for both Mara and Cole. As usual, I liked the art included on pages of some of the iconic moments in the book.
Thank you Bloom Books for this arc for an honest review of the paperback reissue coming out in October.
Cole and Mara’s nail biting story is like nothing you’ll ever read.
I didn’t know what to expect in book 2, it surpassed my expectations immensely!
There’s so much emotional and physical passion that it leaves you wanting more.
I connected with both main characters' past which is why I loved it so much.
Gah! I loved it and did not want it to ever end.
Thank you so much to @Sourcebooks @read_bloom and @netgalley
