Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The illustrations in this book are so cute! I love all the bright colors. This book was so fun to read to my daughter. She loves all of the books in the How to Catch series. All of the books are adorable and fun reads. This book was no exception, I look forward to more books in this series.
My house love this series, that’s exactly why I had requested an arc in exchange for our honest opinion.
However, this one fell short on the “How to Catch” aspect of the book. (My main reason for the 3 stars.) My children truly love the thrill of the “catching” and it really was not there.
The book is super cute and does a wonderful job explaining a mother’s role and how important she is to our lives. The illustrations were also adorable. I just think this book would have been better without the title “How to Catch” tag line.
We still enjoyed it and I would recommend it if you and your children love to read!
Thanks NetGalley for the advanced readers copy! Publication is set for March 2024.
This was just okay. I've read some of the other books in this series to my children as well as at library and enjoyed them. But, I don't think this book would go over quite as well in the series. It's illustrated beautifully and obviously, very sweet to moms. And while it's catchy about Mom being a dinosaur, it actually doesn't make a lot of sense in the story. Not to mention, the exclusion of so many other guardians. I think it's a good book for Mother's Day to read to kids but I wouldn't read it any other time of year.
My children love this series and this one did not disappoint! I found it adorable and positive! My oldest expressed how much she loved it and the message of the story.
I love the "how to catch" books and this one was no exception. They do all the things that Mama may like in hopes of catching the Mamasaurus to show how much they love her! Absolutely adorable!
My preschool class loves this book series so I have read almost all that have been published. The "How to Catch" group of kids is back, this time talking about a "Mamasaurus".
I think where this series really shines is when it actually leans into its name: "How to Catch a ..." Unfortunately, this book didn't. The kids describe what a mom does and how she is special and important. All of this is true and good. However, there were no classic trap elements or even much rhyming. Making the mom figure a dinosaur didn't make much sense either. I get it as a nickname but the entire book clearly describes the tasks and duties of a human mother.
Maybe I am nitpicking too much but if my students asked me questions about the plot of this book, I would be confused too and not able to answer. So while it may be an interesting Mother's Day read for kids to think about all moms do, I would not read it more than once.
This book was very cute and shows all the many jobs that a mother does for her family. The illustrations are lovely and contain many little details that should keep a child engaged as well as entertained. This book would make a lovely Mother's Day gift for a child to give to show how much they love and appreciate their mother. It even contains a page for the child to write/draw the things they appreciate and love their mother for.
I received an advanced copy of this book from NetGalley, all opinions are my own.
We thought this book was SO cute! I personally loved the illustrations. My daughter liked that it showed how much people love their moms. She also thought it was funny and realized that Mamasaurus did tasks that moms did too.
