When the protagonist’s husband returns from a retreat….he has changed. There are so many secrets and twists in this novel that make it a compelling psychological thriller! Highly recommend.
Thank you NetGalley for the chance to read and review this book. Severe depression accounts for the reason Brent decides to attend a month-long mindfulness retreat to learn the tools to turn his life around. His wife Mary agrees that this will help put their marriage back on track. When he returns home, he's a changed man - a new and improved husband. Once a mild-mannered man Brent is now aggressive and rude and keeping secrets from Mary. She starts fearing him and catches him in several lies. There is a huge twist that puts everything into perspective. The ending is satisfying. I am not a fan of the many time jumps even though they were necessary to move the story. And the often (too often) phrase my husband throughout the story. That was the reason for only a 4-star review.
When Mary's husband, Brent, returns from a month-long wellness retreat, he seems like an entirely different person.
As Mary spends more time with her husband, she begins to notice how much he has changed in every way. Is the man she's living with really the same person she married?
I loved this book. There are so many avenues my mind ran down as possibilities as to why the husband was acting differently. Drugs? Brainwash?
Hard to put down and quite wild, this book is told from the alternate perspectives of husband and wife before, during and after the retreat.
Netgalley thank you so much for this fantastic opportunity.

Wow, this one is a thriller! When Mary's husband returns from a wellness retreat with a brand new outlook on life, she is quickly pulled in to the new him. New body, new ambition, almost like a new man!
Full of twists and turns, I thought this book had a litlle bit of everything I love! Although I was able to figure out the plot twist fairly early, this one still kept me reading long into the night!
A fast paced thriller that I would recommed to friends for sure!~
Wow, I have to say that I did NOT see this twist coming! It was easy to tell that something was off, and there were several people with secrets to hide, but I was thoroughly shocked by the ending. This was a fun, thrilling ride that I zipped through! I love getting chances to read these ARCs, and this one was definitely worth it!
I really enjoyed reading this book! It was an easy read with lots of thriller aspects! This book had an amazing ending and to be honest I did not expect the twists. Truly a good thriller novel!
I wanted to like this but I didn't. The characters were unbelievable and irritatingly one dimensional. The writing was bloated with fillers and tangents.
Another day, another thriller…
I was so excited to read this book as I haven’t previously come across this author and therefore I was intrigued on the writing style and plot even more.
As an avid thriller reader, I do set my standards pretty high. That being said, I was hooked in by this story. I did predict the ending to a certain degree but I was still shocked to read the level of detail that the author went to.
I would really recommend this book if you enjoy a twisty, turny thriller with a splash of romance.
Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me the opportunity to read this novel and provide a review
I was immediately pulled into the idea of a marriage gone crazy after a husband returns home from a wellness retreat completely changed from the man he once was. Unfortunately, the execution of this book was not anything I would recommend.
I didn’t like or hate any of the characters because they were so one dimensional, down to their boring (sorry!) names. And there’s so much telling and repetitive language. Likewise, there are no immersive descriptions and for a book I expected to be a taut thriller, there’s really no tension at all. The “bad guys” and any scenes of danger are too cartoonish to take seriously.
Thanks to Inkubator Books for making this available to read in exchange for a review through NetGalley.
Mary's husband returns from a wellness retreat with a new lease on life. Is this really the man she married?
I loved this book, it was well written, engaging and thrilling. A good number of twists and turns and I enjoyed the flashback's and forwards. I found Mary a likeable character and she had me rooting for her from the get go. There were many times I thought I had it all worked out, only for things to change again.
Highly recommend as a fast paced thriller.
When Mary's husband returns from a wellness retreat, she is surprised by his transformation. Goodbye meek husband hello Mr. confident and the new muscles are an added extra.
Mary soon wonders what happened at this retreat to make such a big difference.
This is a great page turner. I would definitely recommend this book.

This book was... well, let's go back for a moment.
I'm sure you've heard of those wellness retreats, those spas that have the shiny brochures enticing you with dreams of renewing your mind, body, soul... all of that? You read it and wonder how great it would be to get away for a while and come back a totally new person! What if you went and actually did come back a new person? Or, better yet, what if your partner went and came back a totally new person? In this read, Mary's husband goes to a wellness type retreat with the goal of not only renewing his mind, but also saving his marriage. Unfortunately, all that glitters isn't gold, and all that promotes wellness definitely doesn't intend on making you well..
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a read that makes you question everything, sit up straight and pay attention, and sharp twists up until the very end.
Mary's husband Brent goes on a wellness retreat but when he comes back he is a changed man, and not for the better.
This page-turner thriller will keep you guessing with twists and turns aplenty. very readable but some characters will have you shouting with frustration!
When Mary's husband Brent returns from a month-long wellness retreat, he seems like a totally different person.
Before he went away, Brent was anxious, depressed, and in danger of losing his job.
Now, he’s decisive, optimistic, and full of energy. He also has big plans to start his own business ... big plans which require a lot of capital.
As Mary spends more time around her husband, she begins to realise just how much he's changed in every little way. Is the man she’s living with really the same person she married?
And who is the guy in the grey SUV who keeps following her? Does he know something sinister about her husband?
Little by little, Mary realizes Brent has been hiding a dark secret about what really happened on that wellness retreat. And as she draws closer to the horrifying truth, she finds herself trapped in a nightmare beyond her wildest imaginings.
I loved this book. There are so many avenues that my mind went down as possibilities why the husband was acting differently. Drugs? Brainwashing? Government experiments?
Hard to put down and quite the wild ride, this book is told from alternating perspectives between husband and wife before, during, and after the retreat. Get a cup of coffee and buckle up!
Thank you to NetGalley and Brian O’Rourke for the opportunity to review an ARC of The New Husband. When Brent’s depression starts to ruin every aspect of his life, he decides to attend a month-long wellness retreat. He returns home to his wife Mary as a completely different man. But slowly, Mary starts to realize that things are off. Brent is forgetting small things and doing things that he never would have considered before. What really happened at that wellness retreat? And is the man sharing Mary’s bed really her husband, or someone else entirely?
I would rate The New Husband by Brian O’Rourke 4 out of 5 stars. It was a very well-developed story, and I appreciated the use of different narrative perspectives to keep the mystery. However, it was not quite the “psychological thriller with a twist you won’t see coming” that the cover promised, as I had figured out the twist very early in the book. After that point, it was slightly frustrating reading as the main character figured it out for herself painfully slowly. Other than that, the story was very good. It was definitely an intense psychological thriller that got my heart racing. I enjoyed Mary as a main character and couldn’t put the book down.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves psychological thrillers. If Freida McFadden is someone you like, you’ll like this book as well. I would offer trigger warnings for stalking, child abuse, parental abuse, rape, and alcoholism.
Brian O'Rourke's "The New Husband" proved to be an absolute page turner! The masterful storytelling had me hooked from the very beginning, and it skillfully maintained the suspense, leaving me guessing until the final page.
The protagonist, Mary, sends her husband on a retreat, and upon his return, she notices a remarkable transformation in him. Gone is the meek and passive husband she once knew, replaced by a newfound assertiveness and confidence. Naturally, this change raises questions in Mary's mind, and she becomes increasingly curious about what transpired during his time away.
The novel is a brilliant blend of captivating writing and unexpected twists that keep readers on their toes. Throughout the narrative, I found myself constantly intrigued, eagerly trying to piece together the puzzle as the story unfolded.
Without a doubt, I wholeheartedly recommend "The New Husband" to any reader in search of an enthralling and suspenseful read. Brian O'Rourke's storytelling prowess shines through, delivering a gripping tale that will stay with you long after you turn the last page.

“The New Husband” by Brian O’Rourke was a page turner. This story was well written and kept you guessing to the last page.
Mary sent her husband on a retreat. When he came back she noticed a change in him. Her meek husband was now someone that took charge in his life. As time goes on she wonders what happened at the retreat.
This story was a great story with twists that you don’t expect. Highly recommend.
This is my first book by this author. It’s the perfect thriller. Full of suspense and twists. I figured the ending out long before I got there but it’s still a great story.
Thank you to Net Galley and the publisher for this arc. This story was wild, I kept guessing everything from brain washing, a cult, or an alien. I highly recommend this book. It does drag at times, but this is one of those stories that has you guessing to the end.
Mary's husband Brent decides to go for a month long wellness retreat at the suggestion of his estranged parents. Mary eagerly looks forward to his return, only to be very confused at his changes upon his return.
I enjoyed the twists and turns, and the plot was certainly a good idea. I figured out the twist early in the book was compelled to continue to read to see how it would unfold.
Despite the interesting story and the twists, I did not love the book. The characters were not likable and the book was a little clumsy.
Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
