The New Husband
by Brian O'Rourke
I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!!
I loved the story. I had no clue as to what the hell changed Brent! I was engaged all the way to the end. Shocked at the end for real. What. Loved it.
Thank you NetGalley and Inkubator Books for an early copy of The New Husband. This was a CRAZY plot, who thinks of this? Such a fast read, so amazing that Mary was so gullible but when I figured it out I was like WHOA, NO WAY!!!! Great, Great, Great read even though some parts were far fetched, it all tied up at the end and I understood it All.
Unfortunately book is not on Amazon or Goodreads to write a review.
Overall, I found this to be both a well written and engaging read. A good thriller with enough twists that kept me engaged throughout. I highly recommend it.
Thank you to NetGalley and Inkubator Books for giving me the opportunity to read and review this book.
Thank you @netgalley for this ARC.
Get ready for a wild ride – a book that will keep you engaged and guessing from start to finish. This fast-paced page-turner is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat!
At the center of the story is Mary, a simple, lovable but somewhat oblivious woman who finds herself facing an intriguing dilemma. Her husband, Brent, returns home after going through some significant mental changes, and strange things begin to happen. The author skillfully sets the stage with a thought-provoking question that leaves you eager to find out more.
As the plot unfolds, we're taken on a rollercoaster of deception and suspicion. Brent's behavior raises many red flags, and it's surprising that Mary doesn't see them more clearly. He spends long hours outside the house, working on a mysterious new business venture, but he keeps her completely in the dark about it. And even though Mary starts to have suspicions, she doesn't take some obvious steps that might have helped her uncover the truth. And to top it all off, she doesn't suspect even a whiff of cheating? Come on, Mary!
Speaking of Mary, some readers might find themselves amused by her clueless nature. She's a lovable character, but with her lack of detective skills, it’s hard not to shake your head at some of her decisions, but this is what adds an extra layer of drama to the story.
The mystery deepens, and we're left constantly guessing and second-guessing who might be behind the shady antics. It's hard not to get invested in the characters' lives and try to figure out the truth alongside them. I mean, if you’re a seasoned criminal, would you go through a lot of trouble to steal for less than a million dollars? I guess not!
But that's not all! Just when you think you have it all figured out, the author throws in some unexpected plot twists that keep you on your toes. The timing of these revelations is perfect, ensuring you won't be able to put the book down until you reach the thrilling conclusion.
One of the strong points of this book is its exploration of trust and family dynamics. The question of how Brent can trust his parents despite a history of abuse and hatred between them adds depth to the storyline and makes the characters more intriguing.
In summary, The New Husband is a gripping and intriguing read that will keep you entertained, intrigued, and glued until the very end. If you enjoy fast-paced stories with a mix of mystery and family drama, this book is a must-read!
Triggers: kidnnapping, torture, emotional domestic abuse, parental abuse
A quick and easy read for me.
All the things you expect from a thriller/mystery with enough twists to keep me interested.
Overall a well written and entertaining read.
My thanks to netgalley and the publisher for my copy.
I really really enjoyed this book.lots of twists. I definitely recommend
Thanks Netgalley and publisher. All thoughts are my own
This was a great quick read! The book took some time to pick up, but once it did, I couldn’t put it down. There are few characters in this book but they’re all memorable and fun - with post-retreat Brent’s oscillation between protective and frightening being a particular highlight. The plot twists are a but predictable, but executed well nonetheless. While the final confrontation was dramatic and exciting, I think this book could’ve benefitted from a longer length. Still, I’d recommend it to small-cast thrillers like B.A. Paris’ “Behind Closed Doors”
Great book! Wow what suspense!! This book had it all! It had high suspense, intrigue, mystery, murder, kidnapping, gas lighting , abuse, and so many crazy twists and turns! The storyline was so very interesting and had me glued to my Kindle! I highly recommend reading this book as it was well worth reading! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this one! Thank you Netgalley and the publisher for sharing this book with me!

I enjoyed this book and found the characters to be easy to like (or dislike). The writing was easy to follow and this was a good quick read. I did figure out the main plot twist pretty quickly, but the way the book was written, it didn't bother me that I knew what was happening because I wanted to see how it was pulled off. All in all, I had a good time reading this, it kept my attention, and I will recommend it to friends. I'm looking forward to reading other things from this author.
